In this study, a survey has been carried out to analyse the purchase choice regarding several packaging options of four basic foods (water, milk, bread and meat). We conducted a segmentation by age to analyse whether the purchasing behaviour changes depending on this variable, and whether it is related to environmental attitudes measured on the New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) scale and to recycling behaviour. Among the results we found that, although young people seem to be slightly more environmentally aware, this does not translate into more sustainable purchases.

We analyzed the role of broker of three cases of innovation promotion in the rural sector. Their profile, their position in the network and the context in which they operate were considered. It was found that the greater the tendency to allow the participation of local or exogenous actors to the territory, their influence decreases and the relationships in the network increase. This tendency is influenced by the broker’s profile and the context in which they operate. Identifying these elements is relevant for the sustainability of initiatives that promote the creation of innovation networks.

The aim was to determine the importance of the biodiversity on the decision to visit six Natural Parks of Peru. For this, a sample of tourists and the discrete travel cost model are used to estimate the demand of multiple places with different attributes. The results confirm that the probability of choice depends on the access routes, the biodiversity, the distance, and the cost of the trip. The effect of the biodiversity is less important than that of access routes. A conservation policy that considers these attributes will be key for the management of the biodiversity.

We used Likert-scale questions and the choice experiment method to evaluate the general perception of consumers regarding differentiated products and to estimate their willingness to pay for characteristics of a differentiated coffee, respectively (N=172). The three characteristics perceived as most important are that the product does not use child labor, that more detailed product information is provided in the packaging and that it is produced locally. In addition, we found that consumers are willing to pay between $1,37 and $4,38, in addition to the current price, for an 8-ounce package of coffee with different production characteristics.

This research identifies the influencing factors on human well-being in the San Jacinto de Santay community by interpreting subjective satisfaction with life revealed by its inhabitants in a crosssectional study. The dependent variable was explained by age, social relationships, and time available for recreation activities. In addition, ecosystem services perceived as critical were identified: clean air and wild food (mainly artisanal fishing). The analysis of the results, using a Mann-Whitney test and analysis of covariance and redundancy, highlighted sustainable management and the importance of understanding the contributions of the natural environment.

This research addresses the case of Manu National Park (PNM) in Peru, one of the most biodiverse protected areas worldwide. Applying the choice experiments (CE) method, based on 1.164 surveys in this country, the positive decay effect on the willingness to pay (WTP) was determined for the conservation of the PNM, at least for most of the attributes analyzed. This suggests that in cases of megadiverse areas, WTP for conservation may not be inversely related to the interviewee’s distance since the effect of biodiversity conservation interest would exceed the effect of disinterest associated with distance.

This article analyzes the changes in the global garlic business between 1960 and 2014, addressing both the global supply, concentrated in Asia especially since the 1990s, and the demand, the latter, although also led by Asia, much more dispersed in geographical terms, in line with the greater presence in the import trade of some European and American economies. In this context, Spain has managed to maintain its share in the world market, currently positioning itself as the second largest exporting country in the world, being surpassed only by China.

This paper analyses the efficiency of a possible agri-environmental scheme aimed at promoting the partial or complete abandonment of the agricultural production in mountain olive groves in Andalusia in order to enhance the provision of environmental public goods (biodiversity and soil functionality). The results obtained show that this scheme would generate positive net social gains (public benefits greater than social costs) only if the scheme is focused on low-yield olive farms and includes low to moderate payments (125 and 500 €/ha·year for partial and total abandonment, respectively).

The analytical network process (ANP) was used to analyze the functionality of small farmers’ organizations; 12 experts were consulted to verify the relevance and assign value comparative judgments to the criteria´s of the internal, external and functional sets. Judgments were added through AIJ technique, after of synthesis weights of relative importance for the criteria’s were estimated. The results show that the criteria´s of the internal set are the ones that are most important for the functionality, highlighting the leadership and management capacity, together with the market environment and the achievement of the objectives proposed by the members.

Rurality is being reduced to the phenomenon of depopulation, producing debates around proposals for action focused on a specific type of rurality. Mostly they are based on the conception of the rural as a space at the service of the functions assigned from the city. In this paper we analyze opposing discourses in the proposals, but these share the functional conception where part of the causes of depopulation may be found. We propose to assume another way of conceiving rurality as a social expression in a context of low demographic density, diverse and in continuous adaptation to the changing reality.
