Operational Strategy for Implementing Digital Transformation in the Manufacturing Industry: The Direct to Consumer(D2C) Approach 制造业实施数字化转型的运营策略:直接面向消费者(D2C)方法

The purpose of this study is to review how companies successfully implemented customer- oriented D2C (direct-to-consumer) operations management and analyze the D2C operational characteristics of these firms. Specifically, the study focused on case analysis of three companies that switched their sales approach to D2C and examined the consequences of this change in three areas: customer problem solving, centralization strategy, and purchasing strategy for value creation. First, the study revealed that all three case companies applied the D2C operational management strategy to effectively respond to customer requests. Second, since online platform operations of the firms were similar, a centralization strategy should be pursued with differentiated product composition or service for each company. Third, the three companies should have considered communication with customers through the purchasing process for value creation, which would have been an important strategy. Based on the case analysis, the following are suggested as four critical success factors for D2C operations management: implementation capability of advanced information and communication technology (ICT); data acquisition, analysis and utilization capability; agile response capability; and operations management capability. The results of this study provides strategic insights and basic guidelines required for D2C operations implementation to companies that are preparing or considering the transition to the D2C model.

Service Quality Issues in the Triad of Sharing Services: Conceptualization of Issues and Propositions for Solutions 共享服务三位一体中的服务质量问题:问题的概念化和解决方案的主张

Sharing-service business models face unique operational issues. The human aspect of the operation particularly differs from traditional service business models, and therefore requires special attention. This aspect comprises “the increased role of customers in service production/delivery process” in sharing-service models. This study primarily aims to identify such operational issues and propose solutions. Based on the “service triad” framework, this study addresses the issues for each of the two sharing-service models: B2C – business to customers, and P2P – people to people. For B2C models, three propositions are put forth based on the theory of the “social dilemma”: (1) implementing social incentives; (2) creating competition among small customer groups; (3) designing effective customer messages. For P2P models, three propositions are put forth based on the “agency theory”: (1) managing information; (2) understanding customers’ attribution to service failure; (3) providing evaluation reports using big data analysis. This study constitutes the first attempt in extending the service triad framework into sharing-service business models toward the goal of providing managerial insights on improving the service quality of sharing-services.

Time Dynamic Analysis of the Relationships Between Corporate Carbon Management, Organizational Capabilities, and Firm Performance: The Resource-based and Natural Resource-based View 企业碳管理、组织能力与企业绩效关系的时间动态分析:基于资源和自然资源的视角

Interest in corporate environmental responses to climate change has been growing, although most studies use static approaches, which cannot explain the dynamics from accumulated capabilities. In this study, we examine the antecedents and consequences of corporate environmental responses to climate change by investigating dynamic changes in organizational capability by employing a method that integrates dynamic analysis with the resource-based and natural resource-based views. We conduct a longitudinal analysis of carbon management practices, total quality management, operations management, and market performance of 72 firms in Korea. The results demonstrate that corporate responses to climate change are affected more by accumulated organizational learning capability than initial capability. However, the relationship between increased carbon management practices and firm performance is not confirmed. The findings support the resource-based view that the accumulation of organizational capability and performance affects corporate environmental responses to climate change. By contrast, the findings do not provide sufficient evidence for the natural-resource-based view that the responses in turn drive corporate performance improvement.

Effect of Shortages of Personal Protective Equipment and Staff on COVID-19 Infection in Nursing Homes: The Moderating Role of Quality 个人防护装备和人员短缺对养老院COVID-19感染的影响:质量的调节作用

During the COVID-19 pandemic, more than twenty percent of the total COVID-19 fatalities in the United States originated in nursing homes. While previous studies underline the shortages of personal protective equipment and staff as potential causes that led to the COVID-19 infection, the generalizability of their findings is limited because they focus on certain states or cross- sectional data. This study empirically investigates these effects using nationwide data spanning 29 weeks. Using longitudinal nursing home-level data and panel regression analyses with fixed effects, this study shows that both shortages led to rise in cases in nursing home residents and staff in the United States. In addition, nursing home quality intensifies the unfavorable effect of staff shortage on staff infection. The results imply that there is a trade-off between improving nursing home quality and preventing staff infection in nursing homes. This study contributes to the literature on the healthcare industry and provides practical implications for stakeholders on how they can mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in nursing homes. First, it suggests nursing home administrators develop contingency plans for personal protective equipment. Second, the study proposes amending the laws on nursing homes’ minimum staffing levels.

Effect of Risk Management on Port and Regional Economic Performance 风险管理对港口和区域经济绩效的影响

For countries all over the world, risk management in the maritime supply chain has become a top priority. For Korea, which is highly dependent on international supply chains, this is in fact an imperative task. However, domestic research on supply chain risks in shipping is lacking, and it is difficult to find studies that quantitatively evaluate the impact of supply chain risks. In view of this, the goal of this study is to substantiate the impact of supply chain risks on the national shipping supply chain. The study thus assesses the performance of the maritime supply chain as well as the impact of supply chain risks on supply chain performance. Additionally, supply chain performance is compared and analyzed based on the relationship between various supply chain related quality variables and risks. The results of the analysis quantitatively substantiated that supply chain risk had a negative effect on both efficiency of the maritime supply chain and container volume. In particular, it was established that when supply chain risk increases, efficiency significantly goes down even when the maritime supply chain is very good. Furthermore, controlling corruption in the supply chain had a positive effect on the container volume.
