AbstractIn 2021, librarians at Colorado State University Libraries seized the opportunity to serve the university community’s educational and personal needs through the creation of a sub-collection of children’s books. Through the curation of awards and notable book lists for children’s books, the collection was born out of a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice principles. After a review of the literature, this article outlines how the authors identified award-winning and notable titles to launch the collection, saved the collection in the middle of a reorganization, assessed the diversity of the new collection, and ensured the collection’s continual development as a vital resource for the university community moving forward. This article provides a starting point for academic librarians looking to ground a new or existing children’s collection in diversity and inclusion principles, even when lacking devoted personnel, extensive monetary support, or building space for the collection. Keywords: Academic librarieschildren’s collectioncollection developmentcollection assessmentdiversityinclusion AcknowledgementsThe Libraries’ children’s collection would not exist without Khaleedah Thomas’s leadership in diversifying the main collection and her management of a grant from the Colorado Department of Education.Colorado State University acknowledges, with respect, that the land we are on today is the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute Nations and peoples.Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).

Arrival of e-books on the scene has had a significant effect on the collection development activities of many academic libraries. Whilst some libraries have made the radical decision to ditch print books in favor of e-books, others are cautiously navigating the new terrain by acquiring both. The current study used the survey research design to study the collection development trends of print books and e-books in academic libraries in Malawi. The study found that academic libraries in Malawi are acquiring both print books and e-books. The trend has resulted from collection development decisions, practices, and budgetary constraints.

Abstract This paper provides a literature review of academic library collection activities related to the provision of streaming video content in support of higher education curricula. It reviews the budgetary, collection management, licensing, technology, and acquisition processes and associated challenges that the provision of streaming video content poses for academic libraries in offering this much needed content to their patron base. The authors present a recent history of developing academic video collections, the transition to and increased demand for the streaming video format, and the evaluations required of funding models and vendor supply models to make the availability of streaming video content sustainable in the academic environment. The article also reviews current and future research and planned collaboration which hold great promise in addressing the current challenges academic libraries face in offering streaming video content to their patrons.

Abstract This study examines the relationship between Journal Impact Factors (JIF) and e-journal usage in collection management. We focus on the impact of major JIFs on local e-journal usage and propose an alternative approach to conventional methods for collection selectors. By treating journal usage patterns as panel data and employing fixed-effects regression models, we find that journal popularity has the greatest influence on local e-journal usage and the effects of impact factors on academic article usage can vary across different disciplines. The methodology and findings of our study offer valuable insights and practical implications for academic librarians overseeing collection development.
