Despite technological advances in modern medical science and practice, many people still associate dental treatment with unpleasant emotional sensations and pain. According to the current literature, dental fear and anxiety are psychological barriers that negatively affect frequency of patient attendance which results in avoidant behavior and poorer oral health-related quality of life. This paper was therefore aimed at discussing basic theoretical aspects concerning diagnostic criteria, causes, and impacts of dental fear, anxiety, and phobia. Clarifying their differential diagnostic characteristics, clinical features and specific causes may play an important role in proper diagnosing, positive influencing, and management of this group of patients, thus providing the opportunity for increasing quality of dental healthcare services as well as improving patient’s dental health and self-perceived quality of life

The SARS-CoV-2 mutations that have occurred have alarmed the entire medical community. Thus, global concerns have been expressed regarding the transmission, pathogenicity and immune evasion of the Omicron strain, which shares mutations with the variants of concern Alpha, Beta, and Gamma strains. Still, Omicron transmission has crossed numerous borders worldwide compared to other types of SARS-CoV-2. The number of confirmed cases has increased and is reappearing in India. Given the worrisome situation created by the Omicron outbreak, scientists and postgraduates have had to make decisions about current research programs at institutions around the globe. The Omicron variants under development have significantly heightened worldwide pandemic concerns. In this review, the authors will outline the molecular features and efficacy of vaccination, highlight possible omicron impacts on scientific research, and provide precautions, procedural guidelines for organizing scientific meetings during a pandemic.

Eating disorders (EDs) have detrimental effects on an individual’s physical and mental health, along with significant interpersonal, social and economic effects. Furthermore, men who are suffering with an ED face unique challenges with this. Men suffering with EDs have historically received little attention within ED research, diagnosis and intervention. However, the number of men suffering with these issues is significant and growing. Understanding of EDs tend to ignore male experiences, meaning many are left to suffer in silence until the ED has developed to a critical point. However, many now recognize the need to understand the issues facing men suffering with an ED. By improving our understanding, we can better improve early detection, diagnosis and treatment for those who are suffering. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive general introduction to this growing area of research and it is hoped that it will be of good use to interested researchers, students and the general public. Prevalence, presentation, history, diagnosis and more will be covered in order to provide a well-rounded understanding of EDs in men.

Systemic lupus erythematosus is one of the most common autoimmune disorders affecting young women. Pregnant women with lupus are generally at higher risk for certain pregnancy complications than women without comorbidities. Even so, a pregnancy with lupus can be carried to term in optimal conditions if it is properly managed by a doctor. Monitoring is generally recommended six months after the onset of lupus symptoms, and ideally there should be no active lupus symptoms prior to conception. General screening tests should include the anti-phospholipid, anti-Ro and anti-La antibodies. Women who are positive for these antibodies have an increased risk of congenital heart block in the fetus. In addition, pregnant women with lupus have an increased risk of spontaneous abortion, intrauterine fetal growth restriction, pre-term birth, while neonatal lupus syndrome is a major fetal condition. The maternal risks are faced with disease flares, pre-eclampsia and other complications. Treatment options during pregnancy are limited to a few safe medications. For example, prednisone is unlikely to cause fetal malformations, but it increases the risk of diabetes and high blood pressure in the mother. Consequently, a careful multidisciplinary monitoring is essential for optimal results in pregnancy with lupus.

The similarity between benign and malignant pathologies on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and a wide-ranging variability of the lesions from benign proliferative changes to invasive breast carcinoma cause a lower and wide-ranging specificity of breast MRI relative to its surpass sensitivity. A wide range of tissue components such as the skin, the adipose tissue, vascular and neural tissues, connective tissues, glandular tissues, ducts, and muscle tissues are found here all together. This pictorial review was aimed at deliberating benign mimickers of breast carcinoma on MRI and trying to call attention to the overlapping and distinctive features.

Non-Hodgkin’s malignant lymphomas are a heterogeneous group of hematological malignancies, characterized by a variety of clinical, morphological, histopathological, immuno-histochemical, molecular and evolutionary features. They represent a form of cancer that develops from the lymphatic tissue, as a result of the malignant transformation of B (85%) or T (15%) lymphocytes. Lymphomagenesis is described as a multi-stage process involving the mutation and proliferation of cell clones. Oxidative stress is defined as an imbalance of cellular redox status caused by the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and/ or by decreasing antioxidant systems that allows their accumulation in the cell. Small quantities of ROS are involved in physiological mechanisms such as cell growth and differentiation, cell signaling, antimicrobial defense, phagocytosis. Normally, cells are capable of defending themselves against ROS damage through various scavenger systems. On the other hand, excessive ROS contribute to various diseases such as carcinogenesis, ischemia, atherosclerosis, neurodegenerative diseases. Oxidative stress exerts noxious effects on the cell structures by inducing structural changes in membranes, lipids, proteins or DNA. The present review summarizes the latest findings in understanding the ROS-linked signaling pathways in the initiation of lymphomagenesis, disease progression, metastasis, as well as in the pharmacodynamics of specific treatments for this malignancy.

Umbilical hernia is one of the types of ventral hernias of the abdominal wall and it represents the externalization of a part of the abdominal contents through a defect of the anterior abdominal wall located in the umbilical region. It is estimated that more than 20 million abdominal wall hernia surgeries are performed worldwide each year. The paper presents a retrospective study on the patients diagnosed with umbilical hernia and admitted to the First and Second Surgery Departments of the Sibiu County Emergency Clinical Hospital. The study includes 82 cases diagnosed with umbilical hernias over a period of 4 years, between 01.01.2017 and 31.12.2020. Open and laparoscopic surgical techniques are compared in terms of outcomes and postoperative complications. Most cases of umbilical hernia were within the age group 51-70 years, with a slightly higher incidence in males. Arterial hypertension and obesity were the most frequent comorbidities. The alloplastic, classic or laparoscopic procedure became the most widely used due to benefits such as: rapid socio-professional reintegration, short-term hospitalization and low incidence of relapses and postoperative complications. The current trend is for the IPOM laparoscopic procedure to become the gold standard in the treatment of umbilical hernias.

Gastrointestinal metastases from cutaneous melanoma are rare and usually asymptomatic, with most patients not being clinically diagnosed throughout their lifetime. We report a case of how melanoma may metastasize insidiously in the small bowel. Unexplained iron deficiency anemia was assumed to be the result of underlying gastrointestinal bleeding. Therefore, the diagnosis of jejunal metastasis from cutaneous melanoma was suggested based on imaging findings and made through the histopathological examination. According to the international guidelines, the patient underwent the complete excision of the primary tumor and therapeutic lymph node dissection. Furthermore, an adjuvant treatment was required to reduce the risk of recurrence. Both immunotherapy and surgical therapy have been shown to be effective, providing long-term survival in this case.
