The paper presents a proposed sensing system for vehicles based on lidar. Three short range lidars where used to fuse the measurement data into a point set in which objects in front of the vehicle could be detected via proposed algorithm for clustering the point set. The lidars are able to measure distance up to the 40 meters, making the system suitable for the urban environments. The lidars were mounted onto the stepper motors. compactRIO (cRIO) controlled the communication with lidars and movement of the motors, also the algorithm ran on the real-time part of the cRIO. The algorithm is built on the idea of the nearest neighbour approach and shows promising results on the synthetic data.

To increase the safety of citizens a network of surveillance cameras has been installed all over the city. These cameras enable analysis of behavior of people and objects. Aggressive behavior is from nature multimodal. Microphones attached to these cameras are not able to analyze speech in a noisy environments and if the speaker is too far away. Lip-movements of a talking mouth can be recorded and understood under limited conditions. From recent progress in the area of Artificial Intelligence it can be expected that large scale lip-reading will be possible next future. In this paper we report the state of the art of lip-reading for the Dutch language. We present a prototype developed at Delft University of Technology. The model is based on the Active Appearance model and Hidden Markov models. The results of experiments with the lip-reading will be represented too. The system has been successfully applied in trains to detect aggressive acts and violence against people and material.

As we can all experience in our daily life, the traffic in the cities grows quickly, which, unfortunately, means also that the number of accidents grows, too. We try to find causes of accidents that happen for systematic reasons as we perceive eliminating such systematic errors as one of primary goals of smart cities idea. This paper deals with the accident data analysis using Bayesian Networks and conditional probability functions. We try to examine independence between variables in data sample in order to work with data of considerably large dimension. Our approach includes determining the structure of a Bayesian Network basing on a data sample and then utilizing computed probabilities in order to eliminate insignificant relations. We also use conditional probability functions to identify significant dependences basing only on data set. Finally we compare results obtained by both methods and use Goodman and Kruskal's lambda coefficient for confirming their accuracy.

Smart Cities have become one of the most interesting research topics for governments, businesses and researchers in the last few years. Being a Smart City implies a competitive edge compared to other cities in terms of economic growth, sustainability, human resources and governance. Therefore, more and more governments pursue this future vision and hop onto the Smart City ‘Bandwagon’. However, the development of Smart City solutions is faced with challenges since there is no clear definition for Smart Cities yet. This paper provides a review on what challenges arise when designing Smart City solutions to provide a complete overview of identified challenges. This paper carries out a systematic literature review of publications between 2008 and 2016 which will be compared with a field study on Smart City initiatives conducted by the municipality of Enschede to develop a requirements framework for these projects. This research is relevant to governments and businesses aiming to create Smart Cities and for researchers, who aim to enhance the concept of Smart Cities. This paper found eight sub-domains within the topic of Smart Cities and these are: Technical Infrastructure, Application Domains, System Integration, Data Processing, Governance & Management, Society & Citizens, Business Domain and Environmental Sustainability. The eight sub-domains are respectively divided in two types: technological and non-technological domains. By firstly identifying the challenges and their solutions within these sub-domains, this paper proposes a requirements framework in combination with a checklist of questions to provide guidance for promoters to conduct future initiatives.

A smart city system will contain diverse heterogeneous smart objects. Their complexity will range from simple reduced function devices (RFD) acting as common nodes, to full function devices (FFD) acting as coordinators and controlling actuators. As part of the Internet of Things, web facing devices can be remotely accessed for monitoring, control and data exchange. This makes them vulnerable to cyber attacks and compromise. To analyse such attacks, honeynets and honeypots are deployed to attract attackers and capture their activity for behavioural analysis. Designing honeynets is difficult due to the broad engineering scope of smart cities as a concept, and consequent diversity of smart object characteristics such as communication channels, interaction, data exchange and embedded security. This paper brings order to this diversity and scope by taking a data-centric view of smart city devices. The data-centric view assesses smart devices for their criticality, security and complexity. It presents a framework using this view, for adaptive honeynet development. It then validates the new framework by categorizing smart objects using the data centric view and applying them to the framework.

One of the basic ideas in the field of smart cities is interconnectivity. Proposed solutions must put together solutions from different fields (sensors, transportation, economy, legislation, energy, IT and many others) and integrate them in order to serve the citizens needs and to ensure sustainability. Additionally this is not done once by buying certain technological tools, but it must be an ongoing process. Thus, not only technological view, but also social aspects must be integrated into services aiming on improvement of the quality of life and sustainability. This is in general a very difficult task, not addressed well by existing methodologies or real world projects. In this paper, we propose a solution to this problem. First, we propose an alternate way of demonstrating the expected outcome of a solution for smart cities. It aims at addressing scenarios from the perspective of the end users rather than “just” providing an overview of technology and its capabilities as it is mainly done in the technological companies serving as a solution provider. While this is a small change, it has big effect from the customer (municipality) perspective as they can better support the effects on the end users. Second, this paper demonstrates SMACEF — SMArt City Evaluation Framework. This is a modeling tool suitable for evaluation of Smart City Initiatives. On an example of an important square (Charles Square) in Prague, the capital city of the Czech republic, certain buildings blocks, and their interconnections and the possible effects are discussed.

Efficiency enhancement for urban mobility is one of the key elements in smart city conceptions. Nowadays, there is significant underutilization of vehicle capacities in the case of individual vehicles, taxis, and vehicles, especially for food or small package delivery services. The motivation of our research is to reveal opportunities for so-called dynamic, combined ride-sourcing service. Passengers and certain goods sharing the same destination can be transported in shared vehicles. Since such novel service concepts are based on new forms of information management, the research question is: how the information systems and the operations are to be modeled in order to create the service. In such a service, demands and capacities are coordinated by dynamic prices based on real-time data. The logical correspondences of pricing are also revealed. During model development, we considered autonomous vehicles as well, because their emergence requires fundamentally new operational approaches. Accordingly, the developed information management method can be adopted for services based on autonomous vehicles. The results provide a basis for innovation and development of these services.

Since such novel service concepts are based on new forms of information management, the research question is: how the information systems and the operations are to be modeled in order to create the service. In such a service, demands and capacities are coordinated by dynamic prices based on real-time data. The logical correspondences of pricing are also revealed. During model development, we considered autonomous vehicles as well, because their emergence requires fundamentally new operational approaches. Accordingly, the developed information management method can be adopted for services based on autonomous vehicles. The results provide a basis for innovation and development of these services.","PeriodicalId":442052,"journal":{"name":"2017 Smart City Symposium Prague (SCSP)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130607850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An autonomous taxi service has been proposed as a sustainable urban transport system for current and future cities. A critical review was conducted to examine whether the proposed technology can alleviate the negative side effects of urban transportation. The study investigated issues related to environmental impact, social sustainability and required infrastructure. A methodology was proposed to estimate the levels of demand and define the system performance requirements for an autonomous taxi to serve Addenbrooke's, which is a medical and research campus at the University of Cambridge UK. The size of the fleet, the capacity of the on-board battery and a charging infrastructure were suggested. Implications for the electricity supply network were also explored. A financial analysis showed that such a system is financial viable.
