A Beamforming Method for PAF Receiver 一种PAF接收机的波束形成方法

Phased array feed is a advanced array receiving technology in the field of radio astronomy and microwave receivers. It is equivalent to a small array antenna evenly placed at the focal field of the radio telescope. Through the beamforming network at back stage, pattern synthesis, beam scanning and even continuous beam coverage can be realized. Time modulated array is a four-dimensional array antenna technology that adjusts the array pattern and phase through time series. Although this technology is mostly used in satellite communication and radar systems, it is similar to the analog beamforming network composed of phase shifter and attenuator in phased array feed. In this paper, based on the technology of time modulated array, it is applied to the analog beamforming technology of phased array feed, and the relevant simulation is carried out.

Pattern Reconfigurable Antenna Based on Liquid Metal 基于液态金属的方向图可重构天线

In this paper, a pattern reconfigurable antenna based on liquid metal is proposed. The metal reflector of the antenna is replaced by two transparent PC(Polycarbonate) channels. The state of the antenna reflector is changed by injecting liquid metal into different transparent PC channels through the pressure pump, so as to provide four pattern modes. The four modes bring three main beam directions of – 48°, 0° and 44° respectively. When the main beam direction is 0, the two modes can provide different half power beam widths. The half power beam width of the other two modes with deflection in the main beam direction can be maintained above 80 ° and the gain can be maintained above 6dB. The working center frequency of the antenna is 2.6GHz, the impedance bandwidth is 220MHz, and the isolation is more than 20dB. Results show that the proposed liquid patch antenna produces a satisfactory impedance matching, and a good agreement between simulation and measurement in terms of radiation characteristics is achieved at the desired frequency. This kind of antenna can be widely used in communication base in the future.

A Design of Wideband Bandpass Three-Dimensional Frequency Selective Surface 宽带带通三维频率选择曲面的设计

A wideband bandpass 3-D frequency selective surface (3-D FSS) which has Chebyshev frequency response and the equivalent transmission line (TL) model of 3-D FSS are presented in this paper. We use the synthetic method proposed by Bo Li and Lei Zhu to design a 3-D FSS in 5 GHz to 14 GHz. The in-band equal-ripple return loss (RL) and the fractional bandwidth (FBW) are selected as 15 dB and 100% and the parameters of the equivalent circuit can be calculated by synthetic design procedure. The unit cell of 3-D FSS is formed of three stepped impedance slotlines which are coupled by two short-ended parallel-coupled sections and two back-side copper strips. The physical parameters of slotlines can be obtained from calculated impedances by executing the extraction method. Printing unit cells in long printed circuit board (PCB) pieces periodically and stacking them with a certain distance, we can establish this 3-D FSS. The S-parameters of 3-D FSS are analyzed and compared with theoretical S-parameters. Besides, we simulated and analyzed the S-parameters under different incident angles.

Mitigation of RF Sheaths Impurities Generation by Structural Optimization of ICRH Antenna for EAST 基于结构优化的东向ICRH天线射频护套杂质抑制

Ion Cyclotron Resonant Heating (ICRH) and Current Drive (CD) are effective methods of plasma heating and confinement in tokamaks. The generation of impurities associated with ICRH & CD is one of the critical issues. Studies indicated that the fluxes of ions accelerated in the radio frequency (RF)-driven sheaths closed to antenna give rise to the parasitic impurity sputtering, arcs and the hot spots on the antenna surface, which will deteriorate the plasma confinement and even cause safety issues such as breakdown of ICRH system. This work reveals that the imbalance of magnetic flux through flux surface controlled by the phase composition and the unsatisfactory structures of antenna components can cause large parallel components of electric field (E//), which in turn lead to the formation of RF-driven sheaths. Aiming to mitigate the RF sheaths impurities of the ICRH antenna in Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), an alternative plasma load was used during the modeling study to obtain the near-field characteristics. Based on the analysis of the field properties near the antenna, several designs that can alleviate impurity issue on the EAST ICRH antenna were presented, through which the parallel components of electric field and RF-driven sheaths have been greatly improved. The research results expressed in this paper can provide reference for the EAST and China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) ICRH design.

Millimeter Wave Wideband Filtering Balun Based on LCP Self-Packaged Suspended Coplanar Waveguide Microstrip Hybrid Structure 基于LCP自封装悬浮共面波导微带混合结构的毫米波宽带滤波Balun

In this report, a millimeter wave wideband filtering balun based on LCP multi-layer suspended coplanar waveguide (CPW) and microstrip hybrid structure is proposed, which is composed of four two-stage folded SIRs. The differential filtering path is constructed by using the inherent common mode suppression of symmetrical resonators and the electromagnetic coupling among resonators, realizing the integrated design of balanced-unbalanced signal conversion and filtering function. This filtering balun is designed centering at 32 GHz, with a 15dB bandwidth of 17.9 GHz (55.9%), an excellent phase imbalance in the passband of less than 4.9° and an amplitude imbalance of less than 0.68 dB. The whole circuit also has the advantages of simple structure, small size and self-packaged.

An Equivalent Method for Measuring Shielding Effectiveness of a Microminiature Electromagnetic Shield Using Its Large-Scale Model 利用微微型电磁屏蔽的大尺度模型测量屏蔽效能的等效方法

It's quite difficult to measure the shielding effectiveness of a microminiature shield due to its extremely small space. An equivalent testing method based on a large-scale model is proposed and outlined in this paper. The constraint relationship of the parameters between the original model and its large-scale model is deduced, and the conversion relation of the shielding effectiveness between the two models is also established. In this method, the large-scale model is obtained by enlarging the original microminiature model in proportion. Then, the shielding effectiveness of the large-scale model is measured by present available methods as well as instruments. The shielding effectiveness of the original model is obtained according to the derived relationship. Finally, this method is applied to a typical microminiature cube. Results show that the shielding effectiveness of the original model at frequency f is equal to that of its large-scale model at frequency f/n. It reveals that the equivalent method is correct and effective, providing an alternative and convenient way for the shielding effectiveness measurement of a shield with extremely small dimension.

Power Transport Theorem (PTT)-Based Decoupling Mode Theory (DMT) for Wave-Guiding Structures 基于功率输运定理(PTT)的导波结构解耦模式理论

Power transport theorem (PTT) governing the transport process of the power-flow passing through waveguide is derived. Input power as the source term in PTT is found to be the one for sustaining the steady power transport, and the corresponding input power operator (IPO) is formulated. Travelling-wave condition satisfied by the travelling-wave modes one-directionally propagating along the waveguide is introduced as a counterpart of the famous Sommerfeld’s radiation condition satisfied by the radiative fields distributing in the far zone. Using the travelling-wave condition and some other necessary conditions, the dependent currents in IPO are effectively eliminated. Under the PTT framework, the recently developed decoupling mode theory (DMT) for the wave-port-fed antennas is further generalized to waveguides. The PTT-based DMT (PTT-DMT) focuses on constructing a set of energy-decoupled modes (DMs) for any pre-selected objective waveguide by diagonalizing the IPO with only independent current, and any two different DMs do not have net energy exchange in an integral period. The PTT-DMT is an effective alternative for the classical eigen-mode theory. The alternative realizes an effective unification for the waveguide-oriented modal analysis theory and the antenna-oriented modal analysis theory, such that the theories can be easily integrated into a single theory for the whole waveguide-antenna combined system in the future.

Travelling-wave condition satisfied by the travelling-wave modes one-directionally propagating along the waveguide is introduced as a counterpart of the famous Sommerfeld’s radiation condition satisfied by the radiative fields distributing in the far zone. Using the travelling-wave condition and some other necessary conditions, the dependent currents in IPO are effectively eliminated. Under the PTT framework, the recently developed decoupling mode theory (DMT) for the wave-port-fed antennas is further generalized to waveguides. The PTT-based DMT (PTT-DMT) focuses on constructing a set of energy-decoupled modes (DMs) for any pre-selected objective waveguide by diagonalizing the IPO with only independent current, and any two different DMs do not have net energy exchange in an integral period. The PTT-DMT is an effective alternative for the classical eigen-mode theory. Some commonly used electromagnetic (EM) modal analysis theories are simply reviewed. The theories include the classical Sturm–Liouville eigen-mode theory (SL-EMT), the scattering matrix (SM)-based and integral equation (IE)-based characteristic mode theories (CMTs) for scatterers, the work-energy theorem (WET)-based CMTs for scatterers and lumped-port-driven structures, and the energy transport theorem (ETT)-based decoupling mode theory (DMT) for wave-port-fed structures. The applicable scopes and evolution progress of the theories are emphasized, and the core physical principles and mathematical formulas related to the ETT-based DMT (ETT-DMT) for wave-port-fed metallic transmitting antennas are given. Inspired by the evolution progress from the WET-based CMT (WET-CMT) to ETT-DMT and the principles and formulas of ETT-DMT, this paper focuses on proposing two novel modal analysis theories: the momentum transport theorem (MTT)-based and angular-momentum transport theorem (AMTT)-based DMTs for wave-port-fed metallic transmitting antennas. The engineering applications for the MTT-based DMT (MTT-DMT) and the AMTT-based DMT (AMTT-DMT) will be provided in our future papers. By outlining the evolution progress from WET-CMT to ETT-DMT to MTT-DMT to AMTT-DMT, this paper displays how to see a world in a grain of sand.

A SCPW Coupled Line Directional Coupler with Broadside Coupling 带横向耦合的SCPW耦合线定向耦合器

In this report, a miniaturized suspended coplanar waveguide (SCPW) coupled line directional coupler with broadside coupling (BC) is proposed, and which has the characteristics of double-sided wiring and multi-layer stacking. The directional coupler has a center frequency of 2.89GHz, a relative bandwidth of 17.3%, a phase balance of ±1°, and the in-band insertion loss and coupling factor can be maintained between 2.95dB-3.3dB. The proposed coupler also has good flatness and high directionality.

An S/C Dual-Band Dual-Polarization Array for Synthetic Aperture Radar 一种用于合成孔径雷达的S/C双频双极化阵列

This paper proposes a dual-band dual-polarization array that operates in S-band (3 GHz) and C-band (5.3 GHz) which can be applied to Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) system. In this paper, a stacked dual-band dual-polarization microstrip patch antenna is designed as a radiating element, and then a dual-band dual-polarization array is formed by this element. The cross-polarization level of the dual-band array is suppressed by using the "pair-wise anti-phase" technique. A 2×2 prototype array is designed and simulated, and the proposed array covers the band of 2.94 GHz-3.06 GHz and 5.19 GHz-5.49 GHz. The polarization isolation is better than -16 dB in both bands. The cross-polarization is lower than -55 dB and -40 dB at S-band and C-band, respectively. The designed array has the characteristics of high aperture efficiency and symmetrical structure, which can be extended into a larger array.
