Of global importance are sources of Late Cenozoic volcanic rocks, indicated by fast and slow anomalies of the lower mantle: ASITA, SOPITA, AFITA, and NAITA. ASITA characterizes the LOMU–ELMU protomantle melt anomalies of the lower mantle high velocity skeleton of Asia during the early mantle geodynamic epoch. SOPITA and AFITA are marked by the HIMU plume component, which was generated in the low-velocity lower mantle of the South Pacific and Africa during the middle mantle geodynamic epoch, about 2 Ga. NAITA denotes processes of generation of the North American high-velocity lower-mantle anomaly in the late geodynamic epoch. Of regional importance are sub-lithospheric sources that are characterized by a common geochemical structure of volcanic rocks of large volcanic regions, formed due to the evolution of homogeneous proto-mantle deep reservoirs. An example is sources of the Wulanhada-Hannuoba and Abaga-Dariganga volcanic regions, marking the spatial transition from the LOMU proto-mantle reservoir of the former to the ELMU one of the latter. Local sources of volcanoes are displayed in limited volumes of melts from the heterogeneous lithosphere. An example is sources of the Wudalianchi volcanic field, on which, at first, in the time interval of 2.5–0.8 Ma, the material of the Laoshantou and Gelaqiu sources with a common age of 1.88 Ga occurred, and then, during the spatial-temporal evolution of volcanism in the last 0.6 Ma, the material from these sources was mixed with a younger lithospheric material.

A review of the main problems of geology by V.E. Khain in 2003 and 2007. This shows different degrees of validity of hypotheses with an emphasis on breakthrough work and clearly doubtful constructions that required additional argumentation at that time. This review is necessary to understand the progressive and degenerative development of geology in the last 20 years.

From compositions of garnet-bearing and garnet-free assemblages of deep-seated nodules brought to a surface by Cenozoic and older (Phanerozoic) magmatic melts, petrological zones of crust-mantle transition (PZСMT) are defined under granulite terranes of craton and non-craton regions. Present-day Moho discontinuities only partially coincide with petrological estimates of a change from felsic-basic rocks (that belong to the continental crust) by predominantly ultramafic rocks (that represent the continental mantle lithosphere) and often lie much deeper than the PZСMT. Depths of such zones change over time. For a garnet-free assemblage of deep-seated nodules ejected by basaltic melts about 13 Ma ago from the root of a granulite terrane exposed in the eastern part of the Tunka Valley, two PT trends were obtained, one of which corresponds to a high (up to 120 mW/m2) rift conductive geotherm, another one crosses low conductive geotherms (drops below 60 mW/m2 one). The PZСMT shows here a temperature approximately 200°C lower than the PZСMT of granulite terranes in Eastern Australia, China, and Svalbard. Deep-seated nodules characterize the development of hot transtension under the rift valley in the cold root part of the East Tunka block with the accumulation and release of elastic stresses accompanied by significant synkinematic (metasomatic and magmatic) processes in the time interval 18–12 Ma ago. The transtension was followed by a crustal transpression with inversional uplift of an area and a probable relative increase in the depth of the Moho discontinuity, determined from the both P- and S-wave velocities for the modern crust and lithospheric part of the mantle.

The results of the study of chemical, granulometric, and mineral compositions of sapropelic bottom silts from Sagan-Nur lake are presented in four cores of the layer as thick as 45 cm that overlies sandy lacustrine deposits. The silt is used as therapeutic mud (peloids). Clay minerals in sedimentary deposits are identified using X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy. Finely dispersed clay minerals of peloids are considered as indicators of anaerobic conditions of lithogenetic processes in the hypergenesis zone.

Lithological, petrographic, and lithogeochemical data are given for sedimentary rocks of alluvial, lacustrine-marsh, and lacustrine facies in the Barguzin valley, uncovered by new boreholes. During petrographic studies of thin sections, the main lithotypes of stratons of rift basins were identified. According to the mineral composition of the rocks, petrochemical and microelement characteristics, a conclusion was made about the origin of sedimentary deposits as a result of erosion of the granite basement rocks.

The article deals with the structural and petrological evolution of one of the many gabbroid massifs of the Southern Baikal region - Snezhninsky, located near the river of the same name, characterized by the most typical structural and metamorphic paragenesis: comfort with layering of containing rocks, located in a steep twisted wing of asymmetrical folds of latitudinal extension with horizontal hinges and axial planes inclined to the north. the array is complicated by a longitudinal oblique upsurge with a powerful zone of tectonites. The northwestern end of the massif is complicated by the upsurge of the northeastern extension. To a depth, the massif sinks to 4-5 km and there is cut off by another fault of the northwestern extension. The internal structure of the array is characterized by a rather monotonous development of small structural forms: the structures of the magma flow, emphasized by the elongation of flat xenoliths, the asymmetrical folds of the right pattern in the plan, the gradual intertransitions between all varieties of rocks composing the array, indicating a significant warming of all rocks during their formation and assimilation.
