Purpose: The study focused on the role of School Management Committees (SMCs) and headteacher effectiveness in government-aided primary schools in Luweero district, Uganda. The objectives of the study were (i) To establish whether School Management Committees (SMCs) monitored headteachers’ performance in the management of school academic programmes. (ii)To examine whether School Management Committees (SMCs) effectively monitored how headteachers utilized school funds. (iii) To assess whether School Management Committees (SMCs) monitored how headteachers managed discipline in their schools. Methodology: The study employed a cross-sectional study design using both quantitative and qualitative approaches to data collection and analysis. A sample of 160 respondents comprising of head teachers and School Management Committee (SMC) members was selected using purposive and cluster sampling techniques. Data was collected using structured questionnaires and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) guides. Findings: The findings under the first objective revealed that SMC members did not effectively monitor head teachers’ management of academic programmes as all the responses scored below average(below 50%). As such the head teachers did not commit much of their time in ensuring that school academic programmes were effectively managed. Findings under the second objective revealed that SMCs’ performance in monitoring head teacher’s utilization of school funds was above average in regard to the preparation of work plans, approval of budgets and cash withdrawals while a dismal performance was reported in the approval of school expenditures and monitoring of accountability of funds. Under the third objective, the findings revealed that the SMCs performed above average in working collaboratively with the head teachers in attending to disciplinary reports, sanctioning errant teachers /pupils and disseminating measures of managing discipline to stakeholders while the performance was below average in the area of formulating school rules and regulations. The dismal performance of SMCs in some areas was attributed to capacity gaps, low motivation and conflicts within the school community. Recommendations: The study recommended that the district local government needed to organize workshops and seminars to equip SMC members with the requisite skills and knowledge in school monitoring and sensitizing them about their roles and responsibilities. It was also recommended that a minimum level of education and one’s integrity and contribution to community welfare be tagged to selection of SMC members.

Purpose: This paper analyses the factors influencing the performance of an organization. The study attempted to examine factors like; board size, board composition, CEO duality, Firm size, Leverage, and firm age as independent variables and Tobin Q and ROA as dependent variables. Methodology: The study used a quantitative research approach and applied secondary data collected from annual reports. Using the ordinary least square Regression method, the study analyzed 39 non-financial firms listed at Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) and Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) for the period from 2016 through 2020. For the data analysis computer software, STATA was used to evaluate the factors influencing listed firms’ performance. Findings: The findings of the study revealed that the board size is positive but insignificantly correlated to return on assets. However, the board size is positive and significantly correlated to Tobin Q. The study also found out that the board structure (CEO Duality) had a significant positive impact on the performance of firms. In addition, the firm size and leverage had a significant negative impact on the performance of the firms. The study revealed that there is a significant impact in both countries as measured using both ROA and TOB. However, the correlation was negative for Tanzania and positive for Kenya. Recommendations: The study recommended that firms must keep their board sizes within the limit of 5 to 8 but more analysis should be done to come up with an optimal size. It was also recommended that the responsibility of stock marketers to firm performance should be re-affirmed.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to draw attention of election managers in Africa to the negative impact of voter apathy on poll outcomes. It encourages all eligible voters to cast their vote in democratic elections. The instances of contested elections, poor governance, election of ineffective leadership and civic violence could be avoided if the electorate came out in full to give voice to the will of the people. Methodology: The researcher reviewed published literature discussing the performance of postcolonial democracy of independent nations across Africa. With specific reference to academic journals, electoral documents capturing voting patterns and historical records, the researcher uses descriptive statistics and thematic analyses of texts to highlight the effects voter apathy has on national leadership and governance. Findings: Voter apathy compromises the expression of the will of the people and causes an erosion of citizen commitment to social responsibility. It also leads to the emergence of apathetic leadership and weak accountability of government institutions following general elections. The researcher suggests that voter apathy is one of the reasons for civil unrest, passage of unpalatable legislation and election of ineffective leaders. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The researcher calls for democratic governments and electoral bodies in Africa to note, examine and act to preempt the negative impact of voter apathy on election outcomes. Voters are called upon not to presume that a democratic election process will automatically guarantee effective governance outcomes without their participation. The paper also recommends that the process of voter empowerment should be formalized in electoral practice, policy and procedure.

Purpose: In several democracies an electoral campaign rally is a direct contact communication tactic politicians and political parties adopt to present themselves and their programmes to the electorate, with the ostensible aim of persuading these targets to cast their ballot for the party and its candidate. Through the media these mass campaign gatherings are relayed to thousands of voters outside the venues of these events. In fact, in several instances regular programming on TV has been suspended for live coverage of campaign rallies sponsored by politicians and their parties. Mediated images of mammoth crowds converged at campaign grounds is an eloquent testimony of the mobilisation and management prowess of campaign managers of politicians at an election time. But in the COVID era, it is disturbing, not only because of the health risks posed by such large gatherings in defiance of the state-run NCDC established COVID-19 protocols on physical distancing, but more worrisome that the same governments that have mounted public enlightenment campaigns on measures to check the spread of COVID-19 using billions of donor funds, and have threatened to sanction violators of COVID-19 protocols (and have in certain cases made good their threat) are behind these mass campaign rallies where physical distancing rules are violated. Therefore, the study analyses the health and political implications of electoral campaign rallies using the 2020 governorship election campaign rallies in Edo and Ondo States as case studies. Methodology: A combination of semi-structured interview, personal observation and in-depth literature review was adopted to analyse the health and political implications of lawmakers becoming lawbreakers as it concerns the violation of public health rules in these campaigns by the incumbent governors of these states. Findings: It was found that rallies can cause a spike in infection in society, as the Edo case has confirmed. Results suggest that to these governors winning a second term came first before the lives of citizens, and that politics, it appears, supersedes every other protocol, including public health protocols in the pandemic. Hypocrisy and negligence are implicated as causal factors in the conduct of these two governors. It is believed that these have bred the mistrust between government and citizens in Nigeria. Unique Contribution and Recommendation: Digital electoral campaign is recommended to reduce physical contact that could endanger the health of citizens as a result of mass-attended election campaign rallies.

Purpose: Globally, and most especially in Africa, researchers seem not to have sufficiently explained the underlying factors that influence electorates’ choices. Thus, studies often reveal a myriad of factors that determine this behavior of voters. While some scholars posit rationality as the underlying factor, others suggest idiosyncratic factors in that regard. These conflicting positions indicate that the motivation of electorates’ choices is multifaceted. In Ghana, few studies have investigated the phenomenon in the Northern part of the country. This study, therefore, explored the phenomenon with regard to elections in the Kumbungu Constituency of Northern Ghana. Methodology: Underpinned by the three dominant theories; the sociological model, the psychological model and the rational-choice theory, the study employed an explanatory sequential mixed-method design to gather data thereof. A combination of purposive sampling methods was employed to select information rich cases. The selection of the study region and constituency was based on critical case sampling. Purposeful random sampling was used to select respondents for the survey and interviews. A total of 164 respondents were randomly selected for the survey. Ten key informant interviews were also conducted. Qualitative data were analysed using content and thematic analysis. Quantitative data were analyzed using Predictive Analytic Software by employing descriptive statistics and regression. Findings: The findings indicate that the voting behavior of electorates are not primarily influenced by stable and distinctive factors, such as ethnic or regional ties, but rather the electorate make voting decisions based on conscious evaluation of government performance, economic conditions, and campaign issues. Also, the developmental impact of government programs, ethnicity and ideological leaning of voters do play a role. Therefore, politicians need to heed this in their effort to win the hearts of voters. Unique Contribution and Recommendation: This study recommends that ruling political parties should always endeavor to promote and foster policies and programs that improve the living standards of the Ghanaian electorates if they desire to retain and cling on to political power.

Purpose: With the growing need to compete in a globalize world alongside conflicting and competing interest, transformational leadership has resulted in mixed outcomes. A vast number of studies have been conducted to explore the impact of transformational leadership on talent management and organizational effectiveness. Methodology: This study employed desktop research methodology to critically review literature on the phenomenon with aim of highlighting empirical as well as contextual gaps in extant literature and proposing an integrated conceptual model that links transformational leadership to talent management and organizational effectiveness. This is done while highlighting the role of organizational context and phase of development on the phenomenon. Findings: The study found that transformational leadership is central to talent management and organizational effectiveness. Although transformational leadership has a positive impact on talent management, which results in organizational effectiveness, a need to include other variables that affect the relationship such as the organizational context and phase of development was identified. Unique Contribution and Recommendation: The study recommends that organizations should embrace transformational leadership style to achieve organizational effectiveness. Further, the study recommend talent management practice should be a core concern of leaders who intend to realize faster and sustainable organizational effectiveness.

Purpose: Globalization is the reality of our day and age. Globalization connotes the increasing economic, social, technical, cultural, and political interdependence between nations. People are more inter-connected now than ever. The availability of worldwide communication systems through rapid improvements in communication technology and the internet has led to more international trade and cultural exchange. Methodology: A qualitative study and research was carried out to consider the dynamics and diverse ways globalization has affected our lives and with its own attendant challenges, including the need to design effective multinational organizations, and to identify and select appropriate leaders to manage those organizations with their culturally diverse employees (Northouse,2013). Findings: The research discovered that it is now incumbent on organizational leaders to understand how cultural differences affect their leadership performance and their leadership development systems. Adler and Bartholomew (1992) assert that organizational leaders need to understand various business, political, and cultural environments globally, learn the perspectives, tastes, trends, and technologies of many other cultures, learn how to work with people from many cultures simultaneously, adapt to living and communicating in other cultures, and learn to relate with people from diverse cultural origins from a position of equality rather than cultural superiority. Unique Contribution to theory, practice and policy (Recommendation): Every Successful leaders across borders in the globalized world are expected to embrace diversity by rising above cultural issues such as perceptual bias, discrimination, stereotyping, ethnocentrism, and prejudice. This white paper explores the basic concepts of global leadership, the development of cultural agility, and the process of leadership development across borders.

Purpose: Leadership style is a strategy that an organisation can undertake to influence the performance of the employee positively, and alternatively the performance of the organisation. An organisation’s ability to influence employee performance not only lies with the leadership style but also with support for employee performance, communication and organizational culture (Adair I983). Methodology: A qualitative study and research on the need of how organizations, agencies, parastatals, industries, and countries can get and operate effective leadership style within the circle of influence to achieve their set goals was looked into and recommendations proffered. Findings: There are vacuum of true conscious leaders, whether in politics, religion, organization, business, education, sports or institutions. There is desperate need of competent, principle, sensitive, compassionate and conscious leaders (Adair I983). Unique Contribution and Recommendation: In this research emphasis will be placed on the need to know what makes a leader and what makes a follower. What are the qualities that distinguish leaders from followers? The various styles of leadership and how sets goals can be achieved. This research is about the missing link in leadership styles, with impact on the performance of the follower or employee of an organization with specific focus on Sub- Sahara Africa organisation.

This paper delves into and illuminates on the practices and successes of new and creative governance and accounting practices in Nigeria's oil and gas industry. The purpose of the paper is to find the nexus between corporate governance and creative accounting in Nigerian oil companies. It highlights various management concepts and facets of corporate governance in the Nigerian context that are immoral, but done in the interest of profit maximisation. The study also curiously documents how corporate governance affects the business model of Nigerian companies. Purpose: Millennials are multiplying into the workforce population today as they are reaching their peak employment years. They are giving new insight into office life and the structure among employees and employers. They are the next generation to be leaders in the workplace and will be the generation that shapes the future of leadership. There are not many millennial role models that potential leaders can follow and emulate. Nevertheless, the literature regarding millennials and the workforce has been developed primarily in the context of next generation. Less research has been done on ways to building leadership core competencies and capacities for the potential of these millennial leaders, particularly in today’s workforce. Methodology: A qualitative study and research to consider the best practices for enhancing the number of millennials leaders that will lead their company in the upcoming future was carried out. It was also done to seek ways in educating the senior leaders on the importance of changing with the trends and accepting the millennials as the future. By exploring the workplace profile of Millennials, the use of technology, their workplace engagement style, and the ultimate impact they have on organizational success. Findings: The research discovered that to cultivate and enhance the number of millennial leaders, it is important first to understand the attitudes and behaviors of the generation. The primary traits of the millennial generation that may manifest as elements of millennial leadership styles are collaboration, integration, multitasking, experimentation and nomadic behaviors. There are three things leaders can do to assure these millennials will achieve success on the job, despite generational differences. First, is giving them the big picture. Second, leaders need to help the millennials find the “me” in team. Lastly, millennials need to be mentored on career-building behaviors. Career- building is one area in which beginning workers may be deficient compared to the older or more experienced employees. Millennials have many positive leadership traits of which a company should take advantage; they are great multi-taskers, embrace diversity, innovative, flexible, innovate, and willing to put in the extra hours to move toward success. Incorporating these factors while also providing the future leaders with a strong sense of the company’s programs, goals and vision are all important when developing this generation of leaders. Unique Contribution and Recommendation: Today’s workplace is undergoing dramatic shifts due to the growth of Millennials within the workforce and the insertion of their ideals, values, and identity in organizations. Therefore, management should implement some practices to promote these cultures, like flexible work hours and schedules, Employee engagement( work parties, Work outings, work event and gatherings), Clear Career path and opportunities, Open communication, Give them purpose and also
