Experimentation-driven frameworks for AI technology adoption in libraries: Practical implementation in the library 图书馆采用人工智能技术的实验驱动框架:图书馆的实际实施

Varun Gupta, Chetna Gupta
Abstract This article presents a practical case study centered around the adoption of AI technology within a library setting through the lens of the Curiosity-Based Experimentation (CBE) Framework. It offers insights into the successful implementation of CBE by exploring a librarian’s experimentation with a text-to-video generator AI tool. Motivated by the aim to enhance social media interactions and personal branding, the librarian creatively utilized the technology to craft novel videos. These videos, featuring university staff, students, and visitors, yielded engaging content for the library’s online platforms. The article underscores the application of AI in libraries, illustrating how a CBE-driven approach can foster innovative solutions and amplify academic community engagement. Finally, some practical implications are provided to libraries which include resource allocation for experimentation, learning from failures, open communication, documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration to foster innovation and enhancing library value.

Abstract This study examined the services provided by community college libraries and librarians to Early College High School (ECHS) students on their campuses. Based on focus group interviews with librarians at four community colleges that serve ECHS students, the researcher then surveyed community college librarians across the state of North Carolina to determine the services and resources provided to these nontraditional students. The results of this study provide information on both the services currently being provided and the barriers to those services. The results of this study could be used in designing librarian preparation programs which will better serve academic librarians serving in libraries with growing high school student populations. Furthermore, this study highlights the need for targeted professional training to better support librarians as their campuses continue to serve ECHS students.

Abstract Although new librarians are encouraged to become active in professional association service, they may not understand how this could benefit them or how to begin. This article explains the immediate and long-term benefits of service to the librarian. It also covers finding and selecting service opportunities, serving effectively in those roles, and documenting service activities.

Abstract This article explores how librarians serving, or considering serving, as undergraduate academic advisors can enhance their advising practice by applying professional competencies in academic advising in conjunction with standards in librarianship. It situates the current study in the context of the existing literature, highlights alignments between the standards for academic advising and librarianship, and provides a narrative of the librarian as academic advisor. It elucidates the mutually beneficial nature of standards for librarianship and advising and examines how librarian-advisors can use them to inform their professional development, enhance their advising skills, and better facilitate student success in both the librarian and advisor role. The study offers recommendations for future research into how librarian-advisors can leverage professional standards from both fields to improve advising practice.
