There has been a surge of interest in team coaching in recent years, however understanding of the process, based on the first-person perspective of team coaches, is lacking. This qualitative study was conducted using heuristic inquiry methodology, enhanced by the inclusion of focus groups. This process enabled shared learning, expanded thinking and knowledge development amongst the co-researchers over an eleven-month period. The study sheds light on the emergent practice of team coaching from the team coach’s perspective. The findings challenge concepts in the existing literature, add to existing knowledge as well as opening up new areas for debate. The findings have considerable potential to inform practice, and the coaching profession, by providing insight and a practical resource in the form of the PiE Team Coaching Model and accompanying framework. These resources detail universal elements, as well as typical variations, for team coaches to consider in their practice.

Exploring Mentoring Practices Contributing to New Teacher Retention: An Analysis of the Beginning Teacher Longitudinal Study

How to best support new teachers through the beginning years of their careers and thus to increase new teacher retention is an important question. To explore the predictor variables for new teacher retention from the perspective of effective teacher mentoring practices, multinomial logistic regression was applied in the secondary analysis of the restricted-use data of the Beginning Teacher Longitudinal Study (BTLS). The analysis identified both predictive and non-predictive mentoring practices for new teacher retention, which provides important insight for school leaders and policy-makers in regards to designing effective induction programmes to better increase new teacher retention.

Employee Coachability: New Insights to Increase Employee Adaptability, Performance, and Promotability in Organizations

Researchers, like practitioners, often examine managerial coaching in isolation, focusing on the coach without considering the impact those being coached (i.e., coachees) have on the success of the coaching process. Thus, utilising a survey-based design, this paper explicates the behaviours of highly coachable employees – proactively seeking, demonstrating receptivity to, and implementing constructive feedback – and examines critical outcomes they achieve, while controlling for the influence of effective managerial coaching behaviours. Our findings demonstrate employee coachability drives individual job performance, adaptability, and promotability to a greater extent than effective managerial coaching behaviours.
