Objectives

The present study aims at developing and testing the construct validity of the new concept of “Sexualized Body Perception”, which measures both the relationship that women have with their bodies in a sexual situation, but also the way in which they physically consider different parts of their bodies. In addition, we investigated whether this new construct mediates the relationships between different body items presented in several scientifically validated questionnaires and women's sexual self-esteem.

Methods

After carrying out various correlative analyzes, a principal component analysis allowed us to define the relationship to the sexualized body. We then posed a series of hypotheses to evaluate the possible mediating or moderating effect of the Sexualized Body Perception between the different items in our questionnaire and female sexual self-esteem.

Results

Our results highlighted the mediating role of “Sexualized Body Perception” in the age relationship between BMI and sexual self-esteem for women, as well as a moderating role in the relationship between the SATAQ scale and sexual self-esteem for women.

Conclusions

This study shows the critical importance of the “Sexualized Body Perception” in woman sexual self-esteem beyond BMI and, interestingly, beyond age. Finally, this paper also shed light on new potential interventions aiming at improving women's sexual self-esteem.

Conclusions

Introduction

Sexual function and satisfaction in couples decreases after childbirth. Often communication problems play a central role in persisting sexual dysfunctions. The aim of this study was to evaluate sexual function of mothers of young children and to assess their partners’ perception of their sexuality.

Methods

This cohort study is a postal survey using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire for women who gave birth at least 3 to 4 years ago in a perinatal health care centre in Germany. Additionally, the male partner got a modified FSFI questionnaire for evaluation of their perception of females’ sexuality. In all, 215 couples answered the questionnaire and were included in the study. The concordance of females’ and males’ answers was correlated with the females’ sexual function.

Results

The prevalence of women with potential female sexual dysfunction (FSFI < 26.55) was 24.3%. Besides, men seemed to underestimate their female partners’ sexual satisfaction. However, a good perception of men was associated with a good sexual function of women. Additionally, a child younger than three years was associated with a decreased sexual function in women and worse perception of men.

Conclusion

This study helps to understand interactions between partners concerning females’ sexuality in couples with young children. Health care professionals should inform young parents about possible changes in sexuality after childbirth and encourage them to talk to each other about their sexual concerns and wishes to improve sexual and partnership satisfaction.

Objectives

With the advent of mobile phones and the widespread use of the Internet, the sending of nudes is one of the new sexual practices that raise questions. This article sheds light specifically on these exchanges of photos and videos among young people aged 13 to 25 living in France and French-speaking Belgium.

Methods

The convenience sample consists of 10,700 participants, 7545 women and 3155 men. The recruitment was carried out mainly online via social networks.

Results

Sending nudes of oneself appears to be widespread among young people, and their appreciation of this practice is mostly positive. This type of sharing is integrated into their sexuality: 74.5% have sent nudes. This is largely done on their own initiative for 82.76%, and following a request from their partner for 64.07%. A notable change undoubtedly concerns the place of couples in these exchanges: primary sharing still plays an important role in relationships, but it now also occupies an important place outside of romantic relationships. Outside a relationship, 86.8% have sent nudes. Transferring nudes of others appears to be largely unwanted by the people photographed. Despite this, young victims rarely seek help from an adult. Even fewer seek help from the police. Only 7.95% of them have filed a complaint.

ResultsSending nudes of怯懦的水彩画to be young people, and their间widespread》of this practice is都极度正面评估。 显著改变了有关undoubtedly the place of still in these交流:primary夫妇分担什么一年在人际关系中的作用的重要目的,now it also occupies外面景像罗马广场每年重要的人际关系。

Model of motivations for engaging in polyamorous relationships

Polyamory is a form of consensual non-monogamy (CNM) based on the belief that people can participate in and build multiple romantic and/or sexual relationships with the consent of all involved. This form of CNM relationship is increasingly visible in societies where monogamy is a prevalent norm. Research in the field of polyamory has yielded many findings regarding the multiple relational benefits of polyamory. However, there is a limited number of studies in the literature focusing specifically on why some people find polyamory more appealing than an exclusive, dyadic partner relationship. Therefore, framed within the historical context in which polyamory emerged and the associated stigmatization, this study presents a model of the psychological motivations for considering/engaging in/remaining in a polyamorous relationship in an era when monogamy and the binary nature of intimate and sexual relationships is being deconstructed. The study is based on a secondary theoretical analysis of recent psychological studies on polyamory, discussed in light of the relevant psychological theories of motivation. The result is an 8-component model of diverse potential polyamory motivations, individually or in aggregate. The motivations were organized into eight domains: fulfilment of needs not met in a monogamous relationship; personal growth and autonomy; identity development and polyamory; expression of political values; exploring minority identities (sexual fluidity and bisexuality); need to belong to a community; desire for sexual diversity; and psychodynamic reasons. This study also shows there may be diversified need of psychotherapeutic approaches for polyamorous individuals.

The study aimed to investigate if hentai consumers differed from other pornography consumers regarding their attachment style, attraction to, and desire for romantic relationships with anime characters and humans. Pornography consumers were categorized into three groups. The first group consumed both hentai and human pornography (hentai consumers), the second consumed human pornography but not hentai (non-hentai), and the third did not consume hentai or human pornography (non-porn). Two hundred and eight participants completed an online study that involved self-report surveys and an image rating task. The results revealed that hentai consumers did not differ from non-hentai or non-porn consumers on avoidant attachment. However, among females, hentai consumers were higher on anxious attachment compared to non-porn consumers. For the image rating task, hentai consumers rated anime characters more attractive than non-hentai and non-porn consumers. However, there were no group differences for the image ratings of real people.

Childhood abuse and sadomasochism: New insights

Objective

The development of sexuality begins in early childhood and is vital to a normative sexual development over the lifespan. Unfortunately, this developmental process can be disrupted by many traumatic events. Of these, childhood abuse may be the most damaging: it has been shown to disrupt the natural development of sexuality, one of the manifestations being increased tendencies towards sexual paraphilias, especially sexual masochism and sadism, which can be particularly harmful in their more extreme forms. The current study sought to investigate links between three types of childhood abuse: psychological, physical, and sexual–and the genesis of adult sadomasochistic sexual tendencies, and how the relationship between child abuse and sadomasochism differs by gender.

Method

An online survey was conducted on a sample of 1219 participants who were queried regarding childhood psychological, sexual, and physical abuse. Based on the results of life history items, the participants were separated into the categories “abused” and “non-abused”. Both groups were then given a Masochism and Sadism survey with items adapted from Fisher et al. (2011). For analysis, sadistic and masochistic orientations were partitioned into severity levels of light and heavy masochism, and light, heavy, and passive sadism.

Results

The results confirmed that childhood abuse, especially sexual, increases sadomasochistic tendencies. These increases varied by gender such that abused males exhibited more sadistic preferences and females more masochistic. Levels of sadism and masochism varied with history of abuse and gender. The analyses also resulted in triple interactions for both masochism and sadism, as well as in several simple effects. There were no gender differences for heavy masochism and passive sadism, however, light masochism was more prominent in females, and heavy and light sadism was found more commonly in males. Additionally, the presence of any form of abuse was connected with significantly higher heavy, light and passive masochism and sadism.

Conclusion

Differing types of childhood abuse, as well as gender, affect sadomasochistic preferences in adulthood, and the magnitude of these preferences.

The issue of school pregnancies remains a hot topic in many developing countries. Every year, dozens of cases of teenage pregnancy are recorded in schools in Togo. This paper focuses on the family environment of students in the explanation of the phenomenon of early pregnancies by questioning the effectiveness of parent-child discussions on sexuality as well as their effects on the teenage pregnancies persistence in school. It is further based on data from the survey “Multisectoral approaches to prevent teenage pregnancies in secondary schools in Togo” conducted by the Demographic Research Unit of Lomé University in 2018. The results revealed that, – being socialized in a context where sexuality is a taboo subject – parents rarely discuss subjects relating to sexuality with teenagers. This silence which, according to parents, aims to preserve adolescents as much as possible from the practice of sexuality, however, has a setback for them, because instead of being informed within the family unit with all the possible explanations, they rather discover it via uncontrolled channels (media, social networks) or third parties which are not necessarily the best channels for learning about sexuality, hence (partly) the resurgence of teenage pregnancies in schools in Togo.

which、父母,检讨aims to This沉默啊少年as much as尽可能from the practice of sexuality, has a setback for自在的幸福,这条路上曾经within the family unit with all the可能不会解释it, they用discover via uncontrolled (media)、social networks)、北部和黄金第三部分which are not the best for learning about sexuality)、北部和南部,因此不一定(代)in schools in the中兴of少女pregnancies多哥。

S. Bhadra

Background

Disasters and conflicts are becoming more severe in nature over the decades. Though a number of efforts are made for disaster management, yet the sexual issues arising in disasters are often not understood, explored and discussed to ensure adequate interventions.

Methods

This qualitative study is based on systematic observations and documentations in different disaster management programs between 2001 to 2020 with a number of survivors (at least 100 families in each disaster) across India. The community-based participatory research was adopted to collect information, document the same in daily, weekly, and monthly reports. Through a number of interactions, systematic documentation of the interventions, personal bias and social barriers were neutralized to bring a constructive and conclusive understanding.

Results

There are a number of sexual and reproductive health issues among the women, girls, boys and men, that often lead to multiple coercive sexual relationships and high-risk sexual behavior leading to exploitation and abuse. Sexual rights are severely compromised during emergencies and conflicts which often leads to multiple coercive sexual relationships and high-risk sexual behavior leading to exploitation and abuse. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic imposed a number of sexual difficulties and increased sexual activities over virtual platforms.

Conclusion

Protection of sexual rights and preventing the survivors from experiencing sexual violence are essential for their rehabilitation and recovery. The various policies on disaster management have no clear focus for addressing these through effective programming. Considering the wider array of sexual issues, the recommendations for disaster management are formed for the sexual well being of survivors.

Increased life expectancy creates the prospect of prolonged marital intimacy. However, mature couples face many challenges — physiological, cultural, and familial — and they must be able to mobilize their individual and relational resources to maintain good levels of marital and sexual satisfaction. The aim of this study is to highlight various factors that contribute to the conjugal and sexual satisfaction of older couples, and to discuss the stressing of these factors in a crisis context. 534 participants aged between 18 and 74 years old answered several questionnaires measuring their degree of sexual and conjugal satisfaction as well as the areas of strength and fragility in the relational dynamics of their couple. In addition, five couples also accepted a semi-structured interview on their relationship dynamics and their vision of the ageing couple. The results highlight the major impact of several variables contributing to an increase in relational and sexual satisfaction within couples (e.g. health concerns, conflict management, fondness…). Furthermore, a comparison between the scores of the over-51s and the younger ones highlights the areas of strength of older partners. These different factors will be discussed. Finally, we will propone therapeutic advices aimed at supporting the areas of strength of mature couples in order to accompany them towards long-term relational and sexual fulfillment.

Background

Religion may play a major role for medical students with regard to their own sexuality, but also to their future sexual counseling. We aimed to examine sexual function, attitudes and behaviors in male medical students, and to investigate the relationship between sexuality and religiosity dimensions.

Method

This was a cross-sectional study. A total of 146 male medical students (mean age of 22.2 years) were surveyed using the International Index of Erectile Function and the Arabic Religiosity Scale.

Results

Students who had higher religiosity levels had lower number of sexual partners, tended to believe that a man should have sex with only one partner and only after marriage, were more likely to regret “very much” their first sexual experience and less likely to use pornography. After controlling for confounding variables, only alcohol use and perception of the first sexual experience contributed significantly to students’ sexual function, while overall religiosity did not contribute to sexual function.

Conclusion

Making young medical students aware of their own attitudes towards sexuality and of the fact that these attitudes would be shaped by preconceived religious beliefs can represent a first step towards successfully preparing students for future sexual counseling and attitudes toward patients.
