The technological advances experienced by some countries can revolutionary change the productivity and competitiveness of a wide range of economic sectors due to the opening of possibilities of new ways of doing things better; however, the state of advancement of technology in the respective sectors and countries must first be determined. The aim of the study was to identify the technological gaps in the different productive links of the banana production chain in Colombia, in comparison with different leading countries in the world, to establish the best practices in each of these links. The study was quantitative in nature and the Hierarchical Analytical Process - AHP was used as a multi-criteria tool for information processing and analysis. The study population corresponded to the countries with a banana production chain, and the sample corresponded to the 13 countries with the highest volume of production. Among the multiple existing comparison criteria, the following were selected for analysis: basic research, production volume, exported value, exported quantity and unit value of exports. As a result, it was obtained that Nigeria presents the greatest advances and conditions in the productive chain analyzed according to the established criteria. Likewise, a methodology was established that can be extrapolated to be used in the evaluation of national and international agricultural production chains within the framework of technological gaps.

Solving engineering design tasks requires the use of analytical formulas and dependencies. The direct inclusion of mathematical expressions in the artificial neural network (ANN) is not possible. This research studies the possibility of applying the neural networks method for designing of single or double-side reinforced concrete sections. A Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macro was developed in the MS Excel environment to solve the task of determining the required area of the reinforcement by given geometric dimensions and bending moment and applying classical analytical formulas for reinforced concrete sections design. The training of the pre-configured neural network is performed by approximately 34000 sets of matching input parameters. The presented results from the trained ANN are compared and analysed against the exact analytical solutions. The study presents an approach to the application of structural design calculations. The results suggest that the approach is applicable to more complicated structural design problems.

In order to forecast certain microclimatic parameters in a room, such as relative humidity, it is necessary to collect a large amount of data. For this reason, an electronic system for providing comfortable conditions in a room has been developed, which is based on the becoming largely popular Internet of Things (IoT) technology. On the basis of the obtained data, the future change of the relative humidity in a room can be forecasted, which aims to ensure the health and well-being of its inhabitants. It should be noted that working with large datasets requires more sophisticated methods for prediction, and for this reason, this paper presents results obtained from a modified ordinary differential equation approach for forecasting relative humidity. For the purposes of the study, a program code was developed in Matlab. The resulting predicted relative humidity values are comparable to actual measured values, which would help to improve indoor air quality and provide thermal comfort to occupants.

The current research aimed at addressing the trends, challenges, and opportunities in agricultural economics. The constant development in agricultural economics warrants a better understanding of such changes to help with effective decision making in agriculture. Consecutively, a review of literature has enabled the research to identify three trends; organic farming, agroforestry, and climate-smart agriculture. The research used secondary data and primary data when conducting the thematic analysis. The findings from the analysis revealed that opportunities such as consumer demand, profitability, and government subsidies motivated the farmers into undertaking sustainable practices. Meanwhile, the challenges such as time constraint, farm size, and access to equipment and expert skills acted as barriers that prevented the farmers from adopting sustainable practices.

The purpose of the research paper is to assess the approaches to appraisal of employee work performance in enterprises. The empirical research in the questionnaire survey focused on the factors influencing employee work performance. The research was conducted in the second half-year 2022 on the sample of 260 respondents from enterprises operating in Slovakia. Two hypotheses were established and a research model was created. Methods used in the paper include: analysis, questionnaire survey, and synthesis. To evaluate the questionnaire survey and verify hypotheses, contingency tables, descriptive statistics methods, correlation, and regression were applied. Although the results of statistical verification of hypotheses did not prove the existence of statistically significant relationship, in one case there were 8 out of 18 relationships; thus there is some relationship. Results indicate which factors are important in companies in achieving employee work performance. The statistical verification of hypotheses by correlation and the regression model proved the influence of the business sector on employee work performance appraisal (eight significant relationships). Further research is necessary for the generalisation in this area. The importance of the company’s most important asset, i.e. human capital is corroborated by means of statistical methods used in the paper. Moreover, the importance of structural capital is emphasized. The originality of the paper is in a creative application of statistical methods as well as in establishing five features characteristic of the approach to work performance in Slovakia’s enterprises.

During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia experienced a significant decline in domestic economic growth, with a 2.97% drop in the first quarter and 5.32% in the second quarter. The pandemic has also resulted in a sharp decline in the community economy, especially for people with special abilities (PwSAs), namely those with apparent physical limitations and intellectual disabilities. To alleviate the economic pressure faced by PwSAs, it is crucial to foster their entrepreneurial spirit and skills through creative leadership. This paper portrays the visionary leadership of a village head in Indonesia in empowering and improving PwSAs’ economy through entrepreneurial activities. The research data was collected by observing the daily lives of PwSAs, interviews, and focus group discussions (FGD) with PwSAs and village officials. The study results show that the village head used different approaches for developing the entrepreneurship spirit and skills of PwSAs through training, skills guidance, and craft innovation before and during the pandemic. The programs implemented have increased the PwSAs’ economic level, reducing the number of poor people. This village head is clear evidence of the application of creative leadership in entrepreneurship with all his patience and empathy during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was finally able to solve complex problems faced by the PwSAs.
