Received: 23 May 2019 Abstract Accepted: 9 October 2019 Time-of-use (TOU) electricity pricing has been applied in many countries around the world to encourage manufacturers to reduce their electricity consumption from peak periods to off-peak periods. This paper investigates a new model of Optimizing Electricity costs during Integrated Scheduling of Jobs and Stochastic Preventive Maintenance under time of-use (TOU) electricity pricing scheme in unrelated parallel machine, in which the electricity price varies throughout a day. The problem lies in assigning a group of jobs, the flexible intervals of preventive maintenance to a set of unrelated parallel machines and then scheduling of jobs and flexible preventive maintenance on each separate machine so as to minimize the total electricity cost. We build an improved continuous-time mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model for the problem. To the best of our knowledge, no papers considering both production scheduling and Stochastic Preventive Maintenance under time of-use (TOU) electricity pricing scheme with minimization total Electricity costs in unrelated parallel machine. To evaluate the performance of this model, computational experiments are presented, and numerical results are given using the software CPLEX and MATLAB with then discussed.

The focus of this paper is to propose a method for prioritizing knowledge and technology factor in companies’ business strategy. The data has been gathered and analyzed from Malaysian-owned company of medium size type industry, employing around 250 employees and listed in the Malaysian Bourse Stock of Exchange, since 2000. Sense and respond model is used to determine competitive priorities of the firms. Then knowledge and technology part of sense and respond questionnaire is used to calculate the variability coefficient i.e. the uncertainty caused by technology and knowledge factor. The results show that the company is not leading in term of technology (spear head technology share is around 33%). Therefore, the enhancement of technology and knowledge to SCA values is not significantly seen in this study. The usage of the core technologies is around 41% and it might seem relatively enough. In terms of basic technology, while its share is the lowest (around 25%), it has the highest source of uncertainties among technology types. In this case, the proposed model helped to have a clear and precise improvement plan towards prioritizing technology and knowledge focus.

The implementation of milk-run in Indonesia has been started since 2005. As a developing country, there is a challenge to operate milk-run smoothly especially in urban area due to severe traffic congestion and unfavourable road condition in some areas. This research aimed to analyze the practice of milk-run operation in one of the biggest Japanese automotive companies in Indonesia. Transportation Value Stream Mapping (TVSM) is applied in order to perform just-in-time delivery in the supply chain before operating milk-run. It is discussed that this company still need to continue in improving milk-run operation. The operation system needs control and integration from manufacturer, supplier and logistics partner. The advantage of milk-run operation is cost reduction and also support green logistics in decreasing emission of carbondioxide (CO 2 ) by reducing the number of trucks used.

Received: 6 December 2017 Abstract Accepted: 18 February 2019 One of the strategic decisions of any organization is decision making about manufacturing strategy. Manufacturing strategy is a perspective distinguishing a company from other present companies in that industry and creates a kind of stability in decisions and gives a special direction to organizational activities. SIR (SUPERIORITY& INFERIORITY Ranking) method and their applications have attracted much attention from academics and practitioners. FSIR proves to be a very useful method for multiple criteria decision making in fuzzy environments, which has found substantial applications in recent years. This paper proposes a FSIR approach based methodology for TOPSIS, which using MILTENBURG Strategy Worksheet in order to analyzing of the status of strategy of the Gas Company. Then formulates the priorities of a fuzzy pair-wise comparison matrix as a linear programming and derives crisp priorities from fuzzy pair-wise comparison matrices Manufacturing levers (Alternatives) are examined and analyzed as the main elements of manufacturing strategy. Also, manufacturing outputs (Criteria are identified that are competitive priorities of production of any organization. Next, using a hybrid approach of FSIR and TOPSIS, alternatives (manufacturing levers) are ranked. So dealing with the selected manufacturing levers and promoting them, an organization makes customers satisfied with the least cost and time.

At present, the speed of production and its complexity increases with each passing year due to the shorter product life cycle and competition in the global market. This trend is also observed in the machine-building industry, therefore, in order to ensure the competitiveness of enterprises and reduce the cost of production, it is necessary to intensify production. This is especially true in the machining of complex parts that require a great number of setups, and technological equipment. The problem-oriented analysis of complex parts was carried out, the parts classification was structured and developed according to the design and technological features. This made it possible to offer advanced manufacturing processes for complex parts like levers, forks, and connecting rods. The flexible fixtures for specified complex parts were developed. The effectiveness of the proposed manufacturing processes, as compared with the typical ones, provides significant improvement in the production.

The Industry 4.0 Concept assumes that the majority of industry’s resources will be able to self-diagnose; this will, therefore, enable predictive maintenance. Numerically controlled machines and devices involved in technological processes should, especially, have the facility to predict breakdown. In the paper, the concept of a predictive maintenance system for a vacuum furnace is presented. The predictive maintenance system is based on analysis of the operating parameters of the system and on the algorithms for identifying emergency states in the furnace. The algorithms will be implemented in the monitoring sub-system of the furnace. Analysis of the operating parameters of vacuum furnaces, recorded in the Cloud will lead to increased reliability and reduced service costs. In the paper, the research methodology for identification of the critical parameters of the predictive maintenance system is proposed. Illustrated examples of the thermographic investigation of a vacuum furnace are given.

This paper reports a new multi-item planning and scheduling problem in a job-shop pro- duction system with the consideration of energy consumption. A mixed integer linear programming is proposed to integrate planning and scheduling with the consideration of energy aspect. In this study a new operational constraint is considered in the tactical level because of the huge interest given to energy consumption and its strong link existing with produc- tion system. To evaluate the performance of this model, computational experiments are presented, and numerical results are given using the software CPLEX and then discussed.

The article deals with the subject of recruitment of a candidate for a creative team in man- ufacturing company. For this purpose, a recruitment model has been developed. It consists of three main stages: preliminary selection of candidates, assessment of the predispositions of the selected candidates to work in a team and creative team building. The authors developed recruitment model of a candidate for a creative team includes a set of tools supporting the assessment at each stage. In the first stage concerning the preliminary selection, a competence Questionnaire for working in a creative team, was developed. The second stage includes the assessment of a candidate’s predispositions with the use of original tools for assessing creativity, a tool supporting the monitoring of employees’ activity in proposing innovative solutions and assessment center methodology. The principles of AC remained the same. The competences that a creative team should possess were adjusted to the tool. Tasks were proposed in order to assess these competences. The tool itself is ready for application. In the subsequent stage of research, the tool in question will be tested in selected companies and evaluated. The last stage concerns the team building. The tool used at this stage is the Questionnaire for assessing the role in the team. While creating a recruitment model of a candidate for a creative team, of the selected companies team leaders were consulted.
