Close relationships are accepted as an important predictor of well-being (Reis, 2012). Although these relationships continue their importance throughout the lifespan, changes within relationship dynamics are observed over time (Arnett, 2000). In this study, it is aimed to examine the relationships between perceived responsiveness and age; to test the relationships between perceived responsiveness and psychological well-being and to investigate the moderator role of age in this relationships. To this end, two different samples from Turkey were used. In the first sample, there were 1172 participants, aged between 20 and 82, and the second sample consisted of 842 participants, aged between 20 and 87. It was found that perceived partner and family responsiveness were associated with age. Results showed that the association between perceived family responsiveness and age was linear while the association between perceived partner responsiveness and age was quadratic. Additionally, a significant and positive association was found between all perceived responsiveness variables and psychological well-being, and these associations were found as stronger for young adults. Our findings contribute to the literature by demonstrating age-related changes in perceived responsiveness for the first time, also the relationship between perceived responsiveness and well-being for the first time in Turkey.

This study examines the effect of person-organization value congruence regarding opportunities for personal development provided by the organization on work engagement. A curvilinear relationship between value congruence regarding opportunities for personal development and work engagement was hypothesized, building on the job demands-resources, mediation of burnout and engagement, and attraction-selection-attrition models. It was also hypothesized that organizational tenure would moderate the curvilinear relationship between value congruence and work engagement. Data were collected from 204 white-collar employees. Both difference score-based polynomial regression analysis and response surface analysis results provided support for the curvilinear value congruence – work engagement relationship. Moreover, as expected, organizational tenure moderated this relationship: The effect of value congruence on work engagement was stronger for employees with shorter tenure compared to those with longer tenure. Findings not only highlight the importance of value congruence regarding opportunities for personal development in work engagement, but also the role of tenure in this relationship.

The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to test the effects of team collectivism on team citizenship behavior and team task performance and examine whether peer procedural justice had a mediating role in the relationships of team collectivism with team citizenship behavior and team task performance. The research design was based on survey data collected from 560 employees in 93 production and service teams from companies located in Istanbul, Izmir, Kocaeli, and Mersin provinces in Turkey. The hypotheses in the model were tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Since the theoretical level is team, all the structures involved in the research were conceptualized at the team level. The results showed that team collectivism was positively related to peer procedural justice, team citizenship behavior, and team task performance. Additionally, it was found that peer procedural justice had a partial mediating role in the relationships of team collectivism with team citizenship behavior and team task performance.

The purpose of the current study was to understand the role of employee and leader gender, employee education, and leadership styles on the perceived leadership effectiveness. The role of gender on the effectiveness perception was discussed previously (Eagly & Karau, 2002) and with the present study, it is aimed to test this relationship in Turkey and understand the role of different leadership styles (i.e., paternalistic leadership) not widely tested by researchers. Scenarios were constructed based on the elements of three leadership styles; transformational, transactional and paternalistic leadership with the same content for male and female leaders. Leadership effectiveness was assessed along four dimensions including performance, communication patterns, feedback, and preference. Data was collected from 112 Turkish participants. Perceived effectiveness differed across three leadership styles with transformational leadership being perceived as the most effective style followed by paternalistic and transactional leadership. There were no interaction between leader gender, employee gender and leadership style to predict leadership effectiveness. However, leadership effectiveness differed as a function of education such that respondents with less education rated transactional leadership as more effective than those with higher education. The results are discussed in terms of the cultural dynamics and generalizability while suggestions for future research are presented.

The present study investigates the relationhips among political trust, religious fundamentalism, and quest religiosity orientations. We also examined the role of authoritarianism and system justification in these relationships. In the study, 177 (57.3%) female and 132 (42.7%) male, a total of 309 participants were surveyed. The results showed that political trust is positively associated with the religious fundamentalism, system justification, and authoritarianism while it is negatively related to the quest religiosity. The result also showed that the authoritarianism and system justification play mediating roles in the relationship between political trust and religiosity.

The purpose of this study is to examine the role of employees’ procedural justice perceptions in the relationship between supervisors’ and their employees’ emotional exhaustion. Based on conservation of resources and resource depletion theories, the study proposes that as supervisors become emotionally exhausted, they would be procedurally less fair to their employees due to their loss of self-control. This procedural unfairness by the supervisor, in turn, would instigate increased emotional exhaustion among employees, as it may signal the loss of an important resource for them. Using a multilevel research design (Level 1: Employee, Level 2: Supervisor), we collected data from 74 supervisors and 212 employees who report to these supervisors. Hierarchical linear modeling analyses provide support for our mediation hypothesis, suggesting that supervisors’ emotional exhaustion predicts employees’ emotional exhaustion indirectly through employees’ perceptions of procedural justice. Theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed.
