The macroeconomic reason and objectives, in a normative framework, reside to a large extent in the support, catalysis, and efficiency of activities at the microeconomic level, the gear through which they are built. Responsible behaviour at the macro and microeconomic level involves the dynamic revelation of dysfunctions and conflicts, generated within each sphere, in their relationship, as well as in the involved normative framework, in order to establish effective mechanisms for balance and development. The purpose of this approach is to analyse the micro-macroeconomic convergence from the perspective of the link between economic performance and energy consumption from the point of view of ensuring the necessary resources and the efficiency of their use, with impact on the environment. The study covers the transport sector at the level of the member countries of the European Union in the period 2011-2020, the collected data being processed with the regression method. The growth in energy efficiency and energy dependence are, against the background of the increase in the volume of activity, factors that lead to an increase in the gross operating rate. From the analysis, it emerges that the use of renewable energy to a greater extent, as a result of sustainable development, does not constitute a significant factor for improving the economic performance of companies in the transport sector. The contributions of the two-dimensional approach conducted consist of mediating the conflict between the objectives of economic profitability and the environmental constraints, targeting both the microeconomic level, through the analysis of the gross operating rate in correlation with energy consumption and CO 2 emissions, as well as the macroeconomic level, constituting a benchmark in policies substantiation.

The objective of the study is to examine the practical implications of using artificial intelligence (AI) based solutions in the case of retail mobile applications, to enhance the online shopping experience and improve the engagement by also having in mind the privacy of the users. We examined 117 shopping applications available in the Google Play market and investigated the permissions required for each application and the categories of personal data collected from the users. Based on the information gathered, we provided practical methods to integrate artificial intelligence-based solutions to offer a new set of services, partially unavailable in physical stores. Some of the permissions identified, if exploited by malicious users, can affect individuals’ privacy. The fact that artificial intelligence is a fast-developing technology constitutes the main challenge in the effort of creating proper regulations. This research provides practical directions regarding the benefits of integrating artificial intelligence solutions in retail mobile applications in an ethical manner, protecting the users’ privacy.

We empirically analyze the determinants of the fiscal decentralization in the European Union. Our approach consists on a quantile regression for the period 2005-2017. The results show the differences in the impact of explanatory variables on the fiscal decentralization by quantiles. Specifically, while GDP per capita or corruption are not significant in a linear modelling, both are relevant in the quantile approach with different effects along the distribution of fiscal decentralization. And other variables as population, density or inequality do not have neither the same impact among quantiles, denoting the limitations of using linear approaches for complex issues as fiscal decentralization.

The concept of the crisis after the crisis recently introduced in the academic debate refers to the fact that, since the outbreak of the health crisis generated by SARS-CoV-2, the pandemic has had a major impact on all economic, social, political and cultural activities of the daily life, influencing significantly the global development. However, the sanitary crisis has induced a multiple faceted crisis, with a number of implications whose consequences are to impact on the further development of the human society as a whole. Treated at first with a certain degree of relaxation, considering the stage we were facing at the time, when both the scientific community and the decision-making actors of the responsible organizations in the field were focusing on the management of the situation, unprecedented at such a scale, on identifying the protocols and action strategies, respectively on implementing recommendations for governments, companies and population, the crisis after the crisis would really capture the researchers attention in the second part of the last year. On the occasion of the Penser l'Europe International Academic Seminar of the Romanian Academy in October 2020, the phrase was retained internationally by two famous economists, honorary members of the Romanian Academy: Jaime Gil Aluja, the president of the Spanish Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences, and Thierry de Montbrial, member of the French Academy of Moral and Political Sciences. The debate that took place on this occasion, obviously "energized" by the already visible social, cultural, economic and sanitary effects, as well as the major impact of the pandemic over the national and international macroeconomic indicators, extended significantly the field of thought regarding the "cascading" consequences both of the infections and of the measures to limit and especially to combat the spread of the virus, justifying once more the necessity to quickly identify globally viable solutions adjusted to each national economic and epidemiological bivectorial context to facilitate the return to a normal life as soon as possible.

Heavy work investment represents a research area which has been intensively debated in the specialised literature, especially since 2013 On the one hand, heavy work investment can be made in the means of production, in order to increase work productivity On the other hand, it is correlated with numerous other factors related to the quality of life and the quality of work conditions, among which: the relationship between work - living standard - personal life;workaholism and technology;the decision to retire and so on The objectives of this research are to identify the correlations between the quality of life and heavy work investment, as well as to assess the social and economic progress from the view point of the need for heavy work investment The research methods used in the study were mainly of a quantitative nature: bibliometric and econometric analysis (linear regression with cross-section data) The data used in the econometric models constructed were taken over from two sources: Eurostat and the World Bank The research findings highlight the fact that in the analysed European states, making work investments by increasing the work volume is not a justified measure, because its effects do not reflect directly on the social and economic progress, quantified as the nominal gross domestic product

In this paper, we investigate the impact of the abrupt switch to online teaching which occurred in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. By using responses from 362 professors and students from 13 European countries, we find that universities and students were very quick to adapt to the new changes and that a mix of synchronous and asynchronous interaction and assessment methods are currently employed. However, this mix is quite limited relative to what is usually subsumed into online learning tools, and is indicative of passive delivery and reduced interaction. Our respondents estimate that most online interaction and assessment methods will continue to be used after the return to face-to-face education. Our respondents also view the switch to online teaching to have an overall moderate positive impact on the educational process, albeit the overall effectiveness of the online educational experience is perceived to be lower than in the case of face-to-face teaching. Moreover, we find that the institutional support, the trust in the online system and the perceived effectiveness of formative assessment are factors that are positively associated with the impact and effectiveness of online education.
