Background: Environmental changes are drastically influencing way of life and healthcare, and are considered a global health emergency. Nursing professionals stand as a great opportunity to positively influence this situation.

Aims: To understand the role of nursing and its importance within the health field for sustainability in global healthcare.

Methods: An integrative review was carried out searching for the PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL and SCOPUS databases in the last 5 years of research. Keywords and synonyms relating to sustainable development and nursing were used. Papers published in the last 5 years in English and Spanish were included. Exclusion criteria were studies showing data before 2019 and, studies on non-health-related sustainability. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) was followed.

Results: From a total of 2909 references, 17 were included. Our findings revealed that nursing can be considered a key agent for the incorporation of sustainability into the health system. The role of nurses is highly influenced by the context, political decisions and research. The current nursing education system was analysed together with the new visions that are emerging and provide a conception of nursing that is more resilient with the world.

Conclusions: The incorporation of sustainability into the health system is taking time, despite nurses being positioned as a key factor in this change. There is need for changes in politics, education and research to facilitates nurses' agency in this domain.

Background: Health education materials are vital resource for health improvement for those with cardiometabolic diseases (CMD). Health education resources can be a valuable aid in nursing practice, reinforcing health education messages and as a structured approach to health education with the patient; and a resource for patients as they self-manage in the community.

Aims: To develop and validate a nurse-led health education resource for those with CMD.

Methods: The study, carried out from March to September 2022, included four stages: a systematic literature review, a qualitative exploratory study, construction of the health education resource, and validation of content and appearance by experts and the target audience. Content validity index (CVI) and Binomial tests were used to analyse each validation stage. Values of CVI equal to or greater than 0.80 were considered as valid.

Results: The health education booklet consists of 26 pages, and it approaches educational content including understanding CMD, healthy eating, physical activities, weight management, stopping smoking and alcohol use, medication use, sleep importance, stress management, and multidisciplinary healthcare team follow-up. In the content validation, experts and target audience assigned a global CVI of 0.92 and 0.99, respectively, which was considered adequate.

Conclusion: The health education booklet proved to be a valid educational tool in content and appearance. It was considered understandable by patients and experts, having feasible use in health education on lifestyle.

Background: Malnutrition and dehydration in residential aged care (nursing homes) are problematic worldwide, particularly for residents with dementia. However, conducting research to improve residents' nutritional health can be challenging.

Aims: This paper describes challenges, facilitators and recommendations following an intervention to enhance nutrition and hydration care.

Methods: Meaningful Engagement in Nutritional Understanding (MENU; 2018-2021) was a participatory nutrition support intervention initiated in two Tasmanian care homes. Mixed methods evaluation explored nutrition and hydration status, knowledge and care practices with residents with dementia, staff and family; and the challenges to, and facilitators of, project implementation.

Results: This study found nutrition and hydration to be problematic. However, despite multiple challenges, a participatory approach may help engage stakeholders and encourage action in this area. Challenges included resident recruitment, care home and staff engagement, and external factors. Facilitators included Nutrition Champions, the participatory research approach, and tailored resources and education.

Conclusions: The study has implications for conducting more effective nutrition research in residential aged care, particularly with people with dementia, nursing and other care staff, to better understand their experiences and enhance care practices. Nursing staff are key to effective participatory research in residential aged care and to ensuring residents' optimal nutrition and hydration.

Background: Pressure ulcers rank as the third most costly disease to health care services. The prevalence in Iran for hospitalised patients is approximately 19%. This study aimed to compare the effects of Arnebia Euchroma ointment dressings with silver nanoparticle dressings on pressure ulcer healing in patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs).

Methods: A randomised controlled trial was conducted with patients with pressure ulcers admitted to ICUs. The patients were randomly assigned to either the intervention group, which received the Arnebia Euchroma ointment dressing (n = 30), or the control group, which received silver nanoparticle dressing (n = 30). Three assessments, including one pre-intervention, one during, and one after the intervention on day (1, 7, and 12), were conducted using the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing (PUSH) and Nonverbal Pain Scale (NVPS) to evaluate the healing progress and pain intensity levels over time.

Results: The study results revealed that both the Arnebia Euchroma ointment and silver nanoparticles had positive effects on wound healing; there was no significant difference between the two treatments. The mean pain intensity decreased on the first, seventh, and twelfth days; and there was a significant difference between the two groups. Patients in the Arnebia Euchroma ointment group experienced lower pain intensity during and after dressing on the first, seventh, and twelfth days.

Conclusion: Wound healing was expected in the silver nanoparticle group, whereas promising results were also observed in the Arnebia Euchroma ointment dressing group. Since the full effects of silver nanoparticles on humans and the environment are still unknown, the use of locally sourced herbal medicines such as Arnebia Euchroma can be considered as an alternative, or even in combination with silver nanoparticles.
