ABSTRACTMental health is a core component of any culture of excellence, but it is also complex, and key stakeholders in elite sport struggle to negotiate their roles and responsibilities in promoting it. In this conceptual paper, we present the Team Denmark Applied Model of Athlete Mental Health. The model is theory-driven, informed by evidence, and intended for applied use; it was developed heuristically through discussions in the Team Denmark sport psychology team and validated in further discussion with multiple stakeholders such as coaches and managers. The model contains four levels of mental health in elite sport (a) the athlete, (b) the training environment, (c) leadership, and (d) everyday life. The four levels are situated in the greater context of Danish society and culture. The four levels are divided into three colours (green, yellow, and red) that describe the mental health of the athlete, the degree to which the environment supports athlete mental health, and the required mental health interventions. The model contains two key messages. First, efforts to promote mental health should target all athletes and not only those that are languishing. Second, athlete mental health is not confined to the individual athlete. The model provides stakeholders with a lens through which they can analyse, talk about, and optimise the way in which their sport environments support the mental health of their athletes.KEYWORDS: Athlete mental healthresponsible elite sportsport environmentssafe sportscontext-driven practice Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).

ABSTRACTMotivational regulation is a determining factor for adherence to physical activity. Therefore, this study investigated the influence of sociodemographic variables, such as sex, age and educational level, as well as the duration and frequency of weekly physical activity, on the motivational regulations of fitness centre users. A total of 500 users (58.70% women and 41.30% men) from public and private fitness centres participated in the study. Motivational regulations were measured using the Behavioural Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire. This instrument obtained an adequate model fit and reliability after the calculation of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient, respectively. The Kruskal–Wallis H test was calculated to determinate the differences between groups, using the Bonferroni correction. The highest scores were recorded for identified (M = 3.50; SD = 0.64), intrinsic (M = 3.33; SD = 0.83) and integrated (M = 2.95; SD = 1.06) regulations. There were no significant differences in motivational regulations according to sex. However, there were significant differences according to age, educational level, seniority in physical activity practice and weekly practice time. Therefore, users who had been in the fitness centres longer scored higher in intrinsic, integrated and identified regulations. Moreover, integrated and identified regulations were greater when the frequency of weekly fitness increased. Fitness centres and trainers should be aware of users’ physical activity motives and guide them toward more self-determined regulation that promotes sport adherence and health, especially for newer users.KEYWORDS: Gymmotivationphysical activityself-determination theory AcknowledgementsThe authors thank the fitness centre managers and users for their participation in the study.Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).Informed consent statementWritten informed consent was obtained from fitness centre users who were involved in the study.Data availability statementData will be available upon reasonable request to the corresponding author.Additional informationFundingThis study has been partially subsidised by the Aid for Research Groups (GR21149) from the Regional Government of Extremadura (Department of Economy, Science and Digital Agenda), with a contribution from the European Union from the European Funds for Regional Development.

ABSTRACTAcute exercise performed immediately after motor skill practice can promote motor retention. Though this effect has been largely reported using simple tasks, whether more complex motor tasks would equally benefit from acute exercise is unknown. The aim of the present study was thus to evaluate the effects of a single high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on the retention of complex motor skills and to compare the results when the motor task involved required executive functions (EF) and when it did not (NEF). Sixty young adults performed a golf-putting task in which target squares were designated either by a fixed number (NEF group) or by Stroop effect (EF group). Performance was assessed by measuring accuracy in getting the golf ball into the target square. Immediately after, half of each group either performed a 13-minute running HIIT session or rested. Seven days later, the same golf-putting task was repeated. Both exercise subgroups showed significant improvements in accuracy after one week, with the EF-exercise subgroup improving more than the NEF-exercise subgroup. These findings suggest that acute exercise can facilitate complex motor skill retention, while these effects may be modulated by the degree of EF involved in the execution of the motor task.KEYWORDS: Motor memoryretentionacute exerciseexecutive function AcknowledgmentsExternal grant funding was not used to fund this work. Internal funds from the University of Barcelona were used to cover the costs of the HIIT exercise bout and motor task procedure.Dataset availabilityDataset generated and analyzed during the current study can be accessed via https://doi.org/10.4121/b05657a1-537b-479b-ab02-579755d3ae00.Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).

ABSTRACTThis study examined the effects of coach encouragement (CE) on psychophysiological responses and technical actions in different small-sided soccer games (SSGs) in young soccer players. Twenty male soccer players (17.3 ± 1.4 years of age) performed four bouts of 2, 3 and 4-a-side SSGs with two minutes of rest between bouts at three-day intervals. Heart rate (HR) responses and technical actions were continuously monitored and recorded during all SSGs. The rating of perceived exertion (RPE), enjoyment (PACES), and mood (Profile of Mood of States: POMS) were also determined at the end of the last bout of each SSGs. Results demonstrated that CE + SSGs induced higher psychophysiological responses such as HR, RPE, and PACES responses (p ≤ 0.05, d values ranging from 0,76 to 2,25 [moderate to very large effect]). Furthermore, the CE + SSGs demonstrated significantly higher technical actions in terms of successful passes and shots (p ≤ 0.05, d values ranging from 0,84 to 3,25 [moderate to very large effect]) when compared to SSGs without CE (CE-SSGs). Conversely, the CE-SSGs induced higher unpleasant mood responses in terms of tension, anger, and fatigue in young soccer players. The results of this study suggest that if coaches want players to perform under higher-intensity conditions, they should encourage players in game-based training.KEYWORDS: Game-based trainingcoach feedbackenjoymentmoodverbal encouragement Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).

ABSTRACTThe Adolescent Sport Doping Inventory (ASDI; [Nicholls, A. R., Levy, A. R., Meir, R., Sanctuary, C., Jones, L., Baghurst, T., Thompson, M. A., & Perry, J. L. (2019). The development and validation of the adolescent sport drug inventory (ASDI) among athletes from four continents. Psychological Assessment, 31(11), 1279–1293. https://doi.org/10.1037/pas0000750] was one of the first questionnaires designed specifically to measure psycho-social doping constructs among adolescent athletes. Little is known about the reliability of this scale, and nor the stability of the psychosocial variables that the ASDI assesses. The aim of this paper was to assess the reliability of the ASDI, along with the extent to which key psychosocial constructs are stable, and whether there was variance across four clusters. Three independent samples of athletes were recruited. Athletes completed the ASDI one week apart (Sample 1, 92 athletes), 8 weeks apart (Sample 2, 134 athletes), and 16 weeks apart (Sample 3, 86 athletes). Findings revealed that the ASDI is a robust and reliable measure. While there was little within-subject variance in the data assessed one week apart (Sample 1) and 8 weeks apart (Sample 2), correlation coefficients in Sample 3 were markedly lower than Samples 1 or 2. The data also revealed that there was movement between cluster profiles for the eight- and 16-week gap, but not the one-week gap. In the short-term, psychosocial variables such as attitudes doping and susceptibility towards doping are relatively stable among adolescent athletes, although there is some movement between doping clusters. This could infer that ongoing anti-doping education is required to prevent undesirable changes in these important factors on a regular basis within adolescence.KEYWORDS: Adolescenceattitudespsycho-social questionnairesusceptibility Data Availability StatementRaw data is available from the lead author, via an e-mail request.Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).
[Nicholls, a.r., Levy, a.r., Meir, r.r., Sanctuary, C., Jones, L., Baghurst, T., Thompson, m.a., & Perry, j.l.(2019)]。

ABSTRACTParents have multifaceted experiences as a result of their involvement in organised youth sport. Such experiences can have an influence on parents’ mental health and well-being. As such, the purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of mental health and well-being among parents in relation to their involvement in organised youth sport. Eighteen Australian youth sport parents (12 mothers, 6 fathers; Mage = 47 years, SD = 4.74) participated in individual semi-structured interviews to better understand how their youth sport-specific roles and behaviours influence mental health and well-being. Following a descriptive thematic analysis, five themes were generated from the data: (a) sport as a platform for family unity; (b) cohesion and conflict between parents and other social agents; (c) requirements of youth sport and family equity; (d) interconnectedness of parent and child emotions in sport; and (e) sport as a context for self-improvement and parental validation. These findings provide meaningful insight with respect to how the youth sport environment, and parents’ roles within it, leads to positive and negative mental health experiences. We encourage applied scholars to consider the current findings when designing quality youth sport programmes that are tailored to all stakeholders (i.e., including parents).KEYWORDS: Family unityparent–child relationshiporganised sportparental well-being Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).
【摘要】父母参与有组织的青少年体育活动的经历是多方面的。这样的经历会对父母的心理健康和幸福产生影响。因此,本研究的目的是研究父母对参与有组织的青少年体育运动的心理健康和幸福的看法。18位澳大利亚青少年体育家长(12位母亲,6位父亲;(47岁,SD = 4.74)参加了个人半结构化访谈,以更好地了解他们的青少年体育特定角色和行为如何影响心理健康和福祉。在描述性专题分析之后,从数据中产生了五个主题:(a)体育作为家庭团结的平台;(b)父母与其他社会代理人之间的凝聚力和冲突;(c)青年体育运动和家庭公平的要求;(d)体育运动中父母和儿童情感的相互联系;(e)体育是自我提升和父母认可的环境。这些发现为青少年体育环境以及父母在其中的角色如何导致积极和消极的心理健康体验提供了有意义的见解。我们鼓励申请学者在设计适合所有利益相关者(即包括家长)的高质量青年体育项目时考虑当前的研究结果。关键词:家庭单位;亲子关系;有组织的体育活动;
