The disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic stimulated the utility of the technological tools for online language learning at the tertiary level in Vietnam. Many universities chose Google digital tools as a technological solution for online instruction. However, there is still a scarcity of studies on university students’ perceptions of using Google tools in the context of online English learning. This study aims to explore university students’ perceptions of the efficacy of using Google tools (namely, Google Classroom, Google Forms, Google Meet, and Google Sites) as a combined technological solution for online English learning in the last phase of the pandemic at a university in northern Vietnam. The research was carried out in the academic year 2021–2022, with 128 non-English majors taking General English courses online. A Likert-scale questionnaire created by Google Forms was distributed to gather feedback from the students, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven students to gain more in-depth data. The results overall demonstrated that the students favorably perceived the applied Google tools as effective tools to support online English learning. It was also found that females had higher perceptions than males regarding the ease of the tools. Furthermore, first-year students agreed more than second-year students on the effectiveness of the tools in increasing engagement in learning.

The concerns over COVID-19 misinformation on social media platforms, particularly on Facebook have attracted scholarly interrogations worldwide, particularly on the use of its platform to peddle lies and share falsehoods about the pandemic. Hence, the study examined Facebook and COVID-19 misinformation: Perception of residents of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, Nigeria. The work was guided by three research objectives and hinged on conspiracy theory. It employed a survey research design and a questionnaire for data collection. The population of the study was 4,200,400 while the sample size was 385 purposively selected and with 377 returned valid and analysed. Findings show that Facebook has been used to spread misinformation about COVID-19 and to a reasonable extent too. Further findings reveal that false information about COVID-19 on Facebook has compromised preventive actions. It, however, concluded that the menace could be curbed using multiple ways such as sourcing information from reliable Facebook accounts such as from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC); monitoring and removing COVID-19 misinformation as well as using verifiable testimonials of survivors on Facebook, including encouraging stakeholders in the health sector to increase their campaigns. Consequently, the paper recommends that Facebook users need always make critical judgments regarding the information they post concerning the virus. It also recommends that there should be intensive campaigns by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other relevant health institutions and governments across the globe on the need to sensitize people to desist from spreading misinformation on COVID-19.

The concept of chemical bonding and related concepts are essential topics for the fundamental understanding of chemistry courses by secondary school students. Because of the abstraction aspect, students find it difficult to understand this topic. The aim of this study is to improve students' motivation, engagement, interaction and school results by integrating interactive simulations into the teaching-learning process of chemical bonding concepts. The study was conducted in a secondary school in the Kingdom of Morocco, with a sample of 56 students in the qualifying secondary education cycle. The sample was divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group is taught using more molecular models PhET simulations, while the control group follows the traditional teaching method. Using a quantitative research method with a pre- and post-test design, and an observation grid measuring students' motivation, engagement and interaction before and after the integration of interactive simulations. The data were then analysed using the IBM SPSS 25 program. The results showed that students in the experimental group working with PhET interactive simulations scored significantly higher (p<.01) than students in the control group after the post-test, thus the study showed that there is a positive correlation between students' motivation, engagement, and interaction and their school results during instruction using PhET computer simulations combined with molecular models. Therefore, the results of this study suggest that the teaching-learning of chemistry topics related to chemical bonding can be enhanced using PhET interactive simulations combined with molecular models. This research highlights the usefulness of integrating interactive simulations into the chemistry teaching-learning process.

For limiting the COVID-19 spread, countries around the world have implemented prevention measures such as lockdowns, social distancing, and the closers of educational institutions. Therefore, most academic activities are shifted to distance learning. This study proposes a deep learning approach for analyzing people’s sentiments (positive, negative, and neutral) from Twitter regarding distance learning in higher education. We collected and pre-processed 24642 English tweets about distance learning posted between July 20, 2022, and November 06, 2022. Then, a self-attention-based Bi-LSTM model with GloVe word embedding was used for sentiment classification. The proposed model performance was compared to LSTM (Long Short Term Memory), Bi-LSTM (Bidirectional-LSTM), and CNN-Bi-LSTM (Convolutional Neural Network-Bi-LSTM). Our proposed model obtains the best test accuracy of 95% on a stratified 90:10 split ratio. The results reveal generally neutral sentiments about distance learning for higher education, followed by positive sentiments, particularly in psychology and computer science, and negative sentiments in biology and chemistry. According to the obtained results, the proposed approach outperformed the state-of-art methods.

Abstract—A system including 18 second-level indexes was constructed first from three aspects to further scientifically evaluate the effectiveness of online teaching. These aspects are the effectiveness of technical support, students’ online learning, and teachers’ online teaching. Moreover, the weights of indexes affecting the effectiveness of online teaching were calculated using the improved CRITIC (Criteria Importance Though Intercrieria Correlation) method, followed by the VIKOR (VIseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje)-based effectiveness evaluation for the online teaching of five majors, including microbiology in Henan Agricultural University. Results show that three indexes—repeated playback promotes knowledge review and consolidation (X2-2), breaking through time-space restriction facilitates learning whenever and wherever possible (X2-1), and good teacher–student and student–student interaction (X3-2)—rank top three in weight. The Q value measured using the VIKOR method reflects the best effectiveness of online microbiology teaching. The CRITIC-weighted VIKOR online teaching effectiveness evaluation model is proved to be flexible and feasible in evaluating the online teaching effectiveness of different subjects, such as schools, majors, and students. The research findings are of specific guiding significance for scientifically adjusting online teaching behaviors and carrying out online teaching activities. Moreover, this research can promote the application of big data analysis in online teaching effectiveness analysis and be of reference value for the process data evaluation of students’ online learning.
此外,采用改进的CRITIC(Criteria Importance Through Intercrieria Correlation)方法计算了影响在线教学有效性的指标权重,然后对河南农业大学微生物学等五个专业的在线教学进行了基于VIKOR(VIseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kombrisno Resenje)的有效性评价。

The CRITIC-weighted VIKOR online teaching effectiveness evaluation model is proved to be flexible and feasible in evaluating the online teaching effectiveness of different subjects, such as schools, majors, and students. The research findings are of specific guiding significance for scientifically adjusting online teaching behaviors and carrying out online teaching activities. Moreover, this research can promote the application of big data analysis in online teaching effectiveness analysis and be of reference value for the process data evaluation of students’ online learning.","PeriodicalId":47933,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Emerging Technologies in Learning","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46890763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

How to identify in advance and help college students with academic difficulties is an important topic for current education departments and universities. Academic early warning system based on big data analysis comprehensively analyzes the learning, life and psychological data of college students, effectively identifies potential academic problems, and helps teachers and student managers take measures in advance to improve the education quality. The existing academic warning models of college students based on big data analysis often have defects, such as data quality issues, lack of key variables, nonlinear problems, and human factors. Therefore, this paper aimed to study the academic early warning model of college students based on big data analysis. After elaborating on the key points of collecting the academic early warning model data based on big data analysis, this paper explained the reasons of calculating the Pearson correlation coefficient of collected big data. This paper constructed an academic early warning model of college students based on deep self-coding network, provided the construction process, and explained its working principle. After optimizing the model parameters, this paper analyzed the model reconstruction error based on sliding window statistical method, and further improved the prediction ability and generalization performance of evaluating the deep self-coding network model, thus obtaining higher academic early warning accuracy. The experimental results verified that the constructed model was effective.
