L’articolo offre la sintesi di uno studio relativo a una comparazione di un campione di testi italiani, ovvero prodotti da informatori di madrelingua italiana con: 1) da un lato un campione parallelo di produzioni scritte dei parlanti nativi del polacco; 2) dall’altro lato un campione di testi paralleli prodotti in italiano da un gruppo di apprendenti dell’italiano come LS madrelingua polacchi. L’analisi si concentra sulla presenza di sequenze principali e secondarie individuate secondo il modello Quaestio, nonché sull’utilizzo di anafore fedeli e infedeli.

A BSTRACT By means of implementing the instruments of Critical Metaphor Analysis (Charteris-Black 2004), the following study analyses an excerpt of the late Victorian homophobic discourse on the basis of the press coverage of the 1895 Oscar Wilde trials. The analysis of the source made it possible to distinguish two categories of conceptual metaphors prevalent in it. The first category highlights the emerging image of a late 19 th -century Victorian homosexual. The second category concerns conceptual metaphors regarding emotions, feelings, and attitudes that surrounded the scandal. The study shows that homophobic discourse present in the examined press publications was rich in conceptual metaphors and that homosexuality evoked mainly pejorative associations. Homophobia relied on objectification and dehumanisation of non-heteronormative individuals by constructing them as, e.g., POISON, DIRT, DECAY and DESTRUCTIVE FORCE.

This paper examines the first English translation of Colmenero’s Curioso Tratado de la Naturaleza y Calidad del Chocolate (1631). The analysis of the English version, Chocolate, or an Indian Drinke , by James Wadsworth is carried out from a qualitative perspective, paying special attention to the translated strategies deployed. The research reveals that Wadsworth will chiefly use procedures such as the preservation of indigenous words and extension, as well as other techniques to a lesser extent.

The coexistence of different languages, language varieties and accents on screen is observable in a growing number of American as well as European TV series, which have been variously referred to as ‘polyglot’, ‘multilingual’, ‘plurilingual’ and 'heterolingual'. Indeed, scholars in the field of Film Studies as well as Audiovisual Translation Studies have acknowledged a ‘multilingual turn’ or ‘multilingual commitment’ in recent products. This study focuses on the translation of two recent TV series, Jane the Virgin and Peaky Blinders , both characterised by the presence of multilingual dialogues, with the aim of illustrating the ‘transfer options’ adopted for the transmission of multilingual discourse to an Italian audience. Attention will be paid to the functions of multilingualism (using Corrius and Zabalbeascoa taxonomy) in the original versions as well as in the translated versions. The two TV series provide the opportunity to analyse the phenomenon of multilingualism on screen in two different genres: drama and comedy, where linguistic polyphony plays different roles and functions, especially in terms of character portrayal.
