Introduction

EpiFibro (Brazilian Epidemiological Study of Fibromyalgia) was created to study Fibromyalgia patients. Patients were included since 2011 according to the 1990 American College of Rheumatology Classification Criteria for Fibromyalgia (ACR1990).

Objectives

To determine how many patients still fulfill the ACR1990 and the ACR2010 criteria in 2014; to determine the correlation between the impact of FM and to describe data on the follow‐up evaluation.

Methods

This is a cross sectional study in a multicenter cohort of patients. The data was collected between 2013 and 2015. Physician included patients that fulfilled the ACR1990 criteria on the date of entry. The follow‐up data were considered only for patients with at least two evaluations. A minimally significant change was considered to be a 30% variation of parameters scores.

Results

810 patients’ data were analyzed. Patients presented a mean age of 51.8 ± 11.5 years old. There were 786 female. Most patients met both criteria. There was a greater fulfilling of the ACR2010. There was a moderate correlation between PDS and FIQ. Three hundred fourteen patients with more than one assessment were found, but 88 patients were excluded. Thus, 226 patients with one follow‐up monitoring parameter were considered. (FIQ: 222; PDS: 199; both: 195). The mean follow‐up time was 9.1 ± 7.5 months (1‐ 44). Most patients became stable.

Conclusion

InEpiFibro, most patients fulfill simultaneously the ACR1990 and ACR2010. A larger number of patients fulfill the ACR2010 at the time of the evaluation. There was a moderate correlation. Most patients remained stable over time.

epifibro(巴西纤维肌痛流行病学研究)是为了研究纤维肌痛患者而创建的。 (FIQ: 222;PDS: 199;: 195)。

Objectives

To evaluate local joint variables after intra‐articular injection (IAI) with triamcinolone hexacetonide (HT) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients.

Methods

We blindly and prospectively (baseline, 1, 4, 12 and 24 weeks) evaluated metacarpophalangeal (MCP), wrist, elbow, shoulder, knee and ankle joints after HT IAI by the following outcome measures: Visual analogue scale 0‐10 cm (VAS) for rest pain (VASR); VAS for movement pain (VASM); VAS for joint swelling (VASSw); flexion (FlexG) and extension (ExtG).

Results

289 patients (635 joints) were studied. VASSw (p < 0,001) and VASR (0,001< p < 0.016) improved from T0 to T4, T12 and T24 for all joints. VASM improved from T0‐T4 (p < 0.021) for all joints; T0‐T12 (p < 0.023) for MCF and knee; T0‐T24 (p < 0.019) only for MCF and knee. FlexG improved from T0‐T4 (p < 0.001) for all joints; T0‐T12 (p < 0.001) and T0‐T24 (p < 0.02) only for MCF and knee. ExtG improved from T0‐T4 (p < 0.001) for all joints except for elbow; T0‐T12 (p = 0.003) for wrist, MCP and knee; and T0‐T24 (p = 0.014) for MCF and knee.

Conclusion

VASSw responded better at short and medium term after IAI with HT in our sample of RA patients.

Objectives

To study the prevalence of idiopathic musculoskeletal pain (IMSP) in school going children and its impact on daily life.

Methods

One thousand eighteen apparently healthy school children aged 5‐16 years were assessed and analysed for IMSP and its associated problems. Standard tests for significance were applied.

Results

One hundred and sixty five (16.2%) children mostly males (55.2%) reported IMSP. Lower limbs (52.1%) were the most common location of pain. More than 1 year of pain history was present in 15%. Thirty seven percent children complained of discomfort during walking, 30.9%, had pain during physical exercise, 29.2% had difficulty attending lessons and 4.2% had interference in pursuing hobbies. The children were also further sub grouped into preadolescents and adolescents. There was significant difference in pain duration and duration of each pain episode in the two groups (p = 0.01). A significant number of children (21.2%) with IMSP reported school absenteeism (p < 0.001). A significant number of adolescents had history positive for contact sports (p = 0.001). Sleep disturbances were also reported to be higher in children with IMSP (29% vs. 5.7%, p = 0.001). Other associated problems in children with IMSP found were day time tiredness (51.1%), headache (47.3%) and abdominal pain (24.8%).

Conclusions

Prevalence of IMSP in school children aged 5‐16 yrs was found to be 16.2% and a significant percentage of these children experience interference with daily activities including school absenteeism.
