연구목적: 본 연구는 중학교 국어 수업시간에 교과서 단원과 연계한 장애이해 수업 실행 방법을 제시하고, 이를 통해 중학생의 장애인식이 어떻게 변화하였는지 알아보는데 있다. 연구방법: 중학교 3학년 학생 36명을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 3학년 2학기 국어교과서 5개 단원에서 장애와 관련된 내용을 추출하여 국어교과 교육과정에 맞게 장애이해교육을 삽입한 수업을 통해 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 연구결과: 첫째, 국어교과 각 단원으로부터 장애이해교육 주제를 선정하여 국어과 교육과정의 모든 영역을 활용하여 장애이해교육 프로그램을 구성하였다. 둘째, 장애관련 동영상 시청, 수화 배우기, 장애 관련 만평 그리기, 장애인 인식관련 가정학습, 특수학교 설립을 위한 모의 협상, 장애 관련 도서 독서 골든벨하기 등의 다양한 학생활동을 구성하여 프로그램을 실행하였다. 셋째, 장애이해교육을 받은 이후 학생들의 장애에 대한 긍정적인 인식의 변화가 이루어졌다. 결론: 국어교과 수업을 활용한 장애이해교육은 중학생의 장애에 대한 인식을 긍정적으로 개선하였으며, 교과를 활용한 장애이해교육이 확대될 필요성을 강조하였다.
