The use of lasers in the treatment of infants and children, including patients with special needs, is considered to be effective in restor- ative procedures and soft tissue therapy. The use of different types of lasers in the therapy of individual tissues depends on the way the tissues interact with laser light and the desired effect for the purpose of treatment. Laser therapy has a positive antimicrobial effect and has a beneficial effect on enamel mineralization. Nd: YAG laser increases the resistance of enamel to demineralization which makes it a valuable therapeutic option in combination with tooth fluoridation. Lasers can be used in a wide range of vital and avital preparations of deciduous teeth pulp including pulp cuping, pulpotomy and pulpectomy. The use of lasers in dentistry is of particular importance in working with children. Lasers enable minimally invasive preparation of hard dental tissues with their preci- sion and selectivity. They also pose a lower risk of thermal tissue injuries during preparation compared to classical preparation tech- niques. Due to less contact between the therapeutic aid and tissue, pain and vibration during preparation are reduced. This achieves better patient compliance due to reduced dental anxiety and phobia in children. Greater patient comfort was achieved by the anal- gesic effect of erbium laser, due to the elimination of the need to use local anesthetics during the procedure. This paper presents a clinical study conducted on 120 patients aged 5 - 8 years. The participants were divided into two groups in which traditional pulpotomy and diode laser pulpotomy procedures were performed. The results of this study confirmed the clinical value of the use of diode lasers in pediatric and preventive dentistry.

Introducion. COVID-19 in children is a relatively mild disease. Though a more serious condition characterized by systemic inflamma- tion does occur in children in a Kawasaki disease-like form named multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C). MIS-C in children is a less common pathology. Case Report. A clinical case of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 in- fection in a previously healthy preschool-age girl is presented. The disease had an incomplete Kawasaki disease-like form corre- sponding to this syndrome in children and adolescents as defined by WHO and CDC criteria. Conclusion. This clinical case draws the attention of general practitioners and pediatricians to the peculiarities of this type of syn- drome diagnosis and management.

Currently the majority of malaria cases in Europe are imported by international travellers and immigrants. Typical clinical signs of malaria are recurrent fever, hepatosplenomegaly and haemolytic anaemia. Abdominal pain is not a specific clinical sign of malaria. We present a clinical case of three-day malaria in a 17-year-old Indian citizen who was admitted to the Ternopil Regional Children’s Hospital with fever and severe abdominal pain. The peculiarity of this case was the presence of fever and severe abdominal pain at the onset of the disease, which led to admission of the patient to surgical department and delayed correct diagnosis. Careful, thoro- ugh case history is one of the key points on the way to the accurate diagnosis. There is a need to increase the physicians’ awareness of malaria in patients with abdominal pain who have come from malaria endemic countries.

The goal of the study is to investigate posterior ankle impingement syndrome (PAIS) in the adolescent population and the differ- ences in delay periods for diagnosis. Furthermore, the intention is to present the results for arthroscopic treatment of PAIS in adoles- cents and compare them to the results found in published literature. A total of 16 adolescent patients (≤19 years old) included in the study were operated on solely for PAIS. A search was done on avail- able medical documentation primarily for the causes and length of the PAIS symptoms, and any reported complications. The Amer- ican Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Ankle-Hindfoot score was used to evaluate ankle function, while patient satisfac- tion was measured using the Abdelatif questionnaire. The average age of the patients at the time of the procedure was 16.8 years. The median period from the appearance of the first symptoms until the diagnosis was 8.5 months. No perioperative complications were recorded in the median follow-up period of 75 months. An increase in AOFAS score was noted, ranging from an average of 70.9 preoperatively to 97.0 postoperatively. All of the patients were very satisfied with the results of the procedure, emphasizing postoperative improvement in everyday ankle use. This study confirms the presence of a diagnosis delay for PAIS in the adolescent population, which is in line with the results published in the literature. Additionally, it has been shown that arthroscopic surgery is highly efficient for treating PAIS in the adolescent popu- lation.

Aim: This study aims to determine the effects of play activities for COVID-19 positive and MIS-C pediatric patients on the anxiety and fear of children and their parents. Methods: This is an experimental study that was prepared through STROBE. The study population consisted of 38 children treated in a university hospital COVID-19 unit. The Children’s Anxiety Meter-State and the Children’s Fear Scale were administered before and after the play activities. The parents’ fear and anxiety were assessed using the COVID-19 Phobia Scale and the Beck Anxiety Inven- tory. The book and coloring set was prepared in advance and delivered to the experimental group in a package. After the sets were given to the parents, the parents read the book to their children the same day. Afterward, they were asked to color pictures of coro- navirus precautions together with the children. SPSS 22.00 package program was used to analyze the study data. The Mann-Whit- ney U test was used to compare independent groups, and Wilcoxon analysis was used to analyze dependent variables before and after the play activities. Results: Based on the children’s anxiety and fear scores in the experimental group, significant differences were found before and after the play activities and significant differences between the anxiety scores (<0.05) of parents and children. However, no significant difference was found between post-play anxiety and fear scores of children in the experimental group and the scores of the control group. Discussion: The experimental group had low mean anxiety and fear scores after the play activities. Play activities should be used to reduce the anxiety and fear of children who are treated in isolation in hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even if children are restricted to isolation rooms, their daily routines should be maintained, and their parents should be supported.
