About Lanford's theorem in the half-space with specular reflection 关于具有镜面反射的半空间中的Lanford定理

The present article proposes a rigorous derivation of the Boltzmann equation in the half-space. We show an analog of the Lanford's theorem in this domain, with specular reflection boundary condition, stating the convergence in the low density limit of the first marginal of the density function of a system of N hard spheres towards the solution of the Boltzmann equation associated to the initial data corresponding to the initial state of the one-particle-density function. The original contributions of this work consist in two main points: the rigorous definition of the collision operator and of the functional space in which the BBGKY hierarchy is solved in a strong sense; and the adaptation to the case of the half-space of the control of the recollisions performed by Gallagher, Saint- Raymond and Texier, which is a crucial step to obtain a quantitative version of the Lanford's theorem.

Polytropic gas modelling at kinetic and macroscopic levels 动力学和宏观水平上的多元气体模拟

In this paper, we consider the kinetic model of continuous type describing a polyatomic gas in two different settings corresponding to a different choice of the functional space used to define macroscopic quantities. Such a model introduces a single continuous variable supposed to capture all the phenomena related to the more complex structure of a polyatomic molecule. In particular, we provide a direct comparison of these two settings, and show their equivalence after the distribution function is rescaled and the cross section is reformulated. We then focus on the kinetic model for which the rigorous existence and uniqueness result in the space homogeneous case is recently proven. Using the cross section proposed in that analysis together with the maximum entropy principle, we establish macroscopic models of six and fourteen fields. In the case of six moments, we calculate the exact, nonlinear, production term and prove its total agreement with extended thermodynamics. Moreover, for the fourteen moments model, we provide new expressions for relaxation times and transport coefficients in a linearized setting, that yield both matching with the experimental data for dependence of the shear viscosity upon temperature and a satisfactory agreement with the theoretical value of the Prandtl number.

Mathematical modelling of collagen fibres rearrangement during the tendon healing process 肌腱愈合过程中胶原纤维重排的数学模型

Tendon injuries present a clinical challenge to modern medicine as they heal slowly and rarely is there full restoration to healthy tendon structure and mechanical strength. Moreover, the process of healing is not fully elucidated. To improve understanding of tendon function and the healing process, we propose a new model of collagen fibres rearrangement during tendon healing. The model consists of an integro-differential equation describing the dynamics of collagen fibres distribution. We further reduce the model in a suitable asym-ptotic regime leading to a nonlinear non-local Fokker-Planck type equation for the spatial and orientation distribution of collagen fibre bundles. Due to its simplicity, the reduced model allows for possible parameter estimation based on data. We showcase some of the qualitative properties of this model simulating its long time asymptotic behaviour and the total time for tendon fibres to align in terms of the model parameters. A possible biological interpretation of the numerical experiments performed leads us to the working hypothesis of the importance of tendon cell size in patient recovery.

Kinetic description of stable white dwarfs 稳定白矮星的动力学描述

In this paper, we study fermion ground states of the relativistic Vlasov-Poisson system arising in the semiclassical limit from relativistic quantum theory of white dwarfs. We show that fermion ground states of the three dimensional relativistic Vlasov-Poisson system exist for subcritical mass, the mass density of such fermion ground states satisfies the Chandrasekhar equation for white dwarfs, and that they are orbitally stable as long as solutions exist.

Emergent dynamics of a thermodynamic Cucker-Smale ensemble on complete Riemannian manifolds 完全黎曼流形上热力学cucker -小系综的涌现动力学

We study emergent collective behaviors of a thermodynamic Cucker-Smale (TCS) ensemble on complete smooth Riemannian manifolds. For this, we extend the TCS model on the Euclidean space to a complete smooth Riemannian manifold by adopting the work [ 30 ] for a CS ensemble, and provide a sufficient framework to achieve velocity alignment and thermal equilibrium. Compared to the model proposed in [ 30 ], our model has an extra thermodynamic observable denoted by temperature, which is assumed to be nonidentical for each particle. However, for isothermal case, our model reduces to the previous CS model in [ 30 ] on a manifold in a small velocity regime. As a concrete example, we study emergent dynamics of the TCS model on the unit begin{document}$ d $end{document} -sphere begin{document}$ mathbb{S}^d $end{document} . We show that the asymptotic emergent dynamics of the proposed TCS model on the unit begin{document}$ d $end{document} -sphere exhibits a dichotomy, either convergence to zero velocity or asymptotic approach toward a common great circle. We also provide several numerical examples illustrating the aforementioned dichotomy on the asymptotic dynamics of the TCS particles on begin{document}$ mathbb{S}^2 $end{document} .

On group symmetries of the hydrodynamic equations for rarefied gas 稀薄气体流体动力方程的群对称性

The invariant group transformations of three-dimensional hydrodynamic equations derived from the Boltzmann equation are studied. Three levels (with respect to the Knudsen number) of hydrodynamic description are considered and compared: (a) Euler equations, (b) Navier-Stokes equations, (c) Generalized Burnett equations (GBEs), which replace the original (ill-posed) Burnett equations. The main attention is paid to group analysis of GBEs in their most general formulation because this and related questions have not been studied before in the literature. The results of group analysis of GBEs and, for comparison, of similar results for Euler and Navier-Stokes equations are presented in two theorems and discussed in detail. It is remarkable that the use of computer code greatly simplifies the proof of the results for GBEs, which are very cumbersome equations with many undetermined parameters.

Heterogeneous discrete kinetic model and its diffusion limit 非均质离散动力学模型及其扩散极限

A revertible discrete velocity kinetic model is introduced when the environment is spatially heterogeneous. It is proved that the parabolic scale singular limit of the model exists and satisfies a new heterogeneous diffusion equation that depends on the diffusivity and the turning frequency together. An energy functional is introduced which takes into account spatial heterogeneity in the velocity field. The monotonicity of the energy functional is the key to obtain uniform estimates needed for the weak convergence proof. The Div-Curl lemma completes the strong convergence proof.

We consider the spherically symmetric, asymptotically flat Einstein-Vlasov system in maximal areal coordinates. The latter coordinates have been used both in analytical and numerical investigations of the Einstein-Vlasov system [3,8,18,19], but neither a local existence theorem nor a suitable continuation criterion has so far been established for the corresponding nonlinear system of PDEs. We close this gap. In this work we are interested in the stationary preserving property of asymptotic preserving (AP) schemes for kinetic models. We introduce a criterion for AP schemes for kinetic equations to be uniformly stationary preserving (SP). Our key observation is that as long as the Maxwellian of the distribution function can be updated explicitly, such AP schemes are also SP. To illustrate our observation, three different AP schemes for three different kinetic models are considered. Their SP property is proved analytically and tested numerically, which confirms our observations.

The mathematical description of the interaction between a collisional plasma and an absorbing surface is a challenging issue. In this paper, we propose to model this interaction by considering a bi-species Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann boundary value problem with boundary conditions that are consistent with the physics. In particular, we show that the wall potential can be uniquely determined from the ambipolarity of the particles flows as the unique solution of a non linear equation. We also prove that it is an increasing function of the electrons re-emission coefficient at the wall. Based on the Schauder fixed point theorem, our analysis establishes the existence of a solution provided, on the one hand that the incoming ions density satisfies a moment condition that generalizes the Historical Bohm criterion, and on the other hand that the collision frequency does not exceed a critical value whose definition is subordinated to the strict validity of our generalized Bohm criterion.
