Empirical relationships between compressive and flexural strength of concrete containing recycled asphalt material for pavement applications using different specimen configurations 混凝土的抗压和抗弯强度之间的经验关系含有再生沥青材料的路面应用使用不同的试样配置

The flexural strength of pavement concrete is generally deduced by testing beams or by applying empirical equations. In this investigation, concrete mixtures were manufactured, incorporating 0, 20, 50 and 100% Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP), by weight, as a replacement for natural aggregates. The compressive strength was measured using cubic specimens and the flexural strength was measured for three types of specimens; beam, semicircular (SCB) and modified beam. This study proposes logarithmic and power equations that allow the estimation of the flexural strength of a concrete mix that incorporates RAP as a function of its compressive strength. Linear or power models are proposed to predict beam flexural strength from SCB specimens and a logarithmic model for modified beam specimens. Statistical analyses show that the proposed prediction models can be considered sufficiently accurate and their use is justified.

Wood decay have the greatest impact on in-service wood structural elements. In most cases, decay is associated with excessive accumulation of moisture in the wood. The structural design conditions have an effect on the wood moisture content and this affects the service life of the material. In this study, which involved an experimental trial specifically designed to embrace different structural design conditions, the moisture content evolution in different places affected by different design conditions was evaluated over a period of three years in Madrid (Spain). The effect of protection by eaves, separation from the ground and the vertical or horizontal arrangement of the wood elements on the monthly evolution of the moisture content and decay risk are assessed.

Performance of rubber mortars containing silica coated rubber 含硅包覆橡胶橡胶砂浆的性能

This paper investigates the influence of silica coated rubber on the performance of rubber mortars. A classical Stober sol-gel method is applied to produce a layer of silica coating on rubber particles, which is used to partially replace the fine aggregates in concrete. The effects of the surface-modified rubber particles on the flowability, mechanical strength, capillary water absorption rate, and microstructure of mortars are examined. The results show that the silica coating on the rubber particles reduces the contact angle between the rubber particles from 120° to 103° (i.e., by 17°) and changes the hydrophobic properties from strong hydrophobicity to weak hydrophobicity. The mechanical strengths of mortars are significantly improved by the incorporation of surface-modified rubber particles, i.e., from 41.60% to 44.86% (compressive strength) and from 7.80% to 26.28% (flexural strength). In addition, the incorporation of surface modified rubber particles increases the density of the mortar’s microstructure and enhances the interfaces with its surrounding pastes.

The effect of coarse to fine aggregate ratio on drying shrinkage of roller compacted concrete pavement in different curing conditions 不同养护条件下粗细集料配比对碾压混凝土路面干缩的影响

Drying shrinkage is an inevitable phenomenon that leads to cracks and eventually remarkable volume changes in hardened concrete. In this study, the drying shrinkage strain behavior of roller compacted concrete pavements (RCCPs) in two different curing conditions was investigated. The variables of RCCPs were coarse to fine aggregate (C/F) ratios of 0.7, 1, 1.2 and 1.5 in two cement dosages of 12% and 15%. Vebe tests of the fresh RCCP as well as the compressive, splitting tensile and flexural tensile strengths of the hardened RCCPs were also performed. The test results indicate that by increasing cement content from 12% to 15%, the drying shrinkage strain increased in both cured and non-cured conditions. Generally, the drying shrinkage strain was significantly increased when the C/F ratio was lower than 1.0. It is highly recommended that C/F aggregate ratio is used in the range of 1.0 to 1.2 in the mixture of RCCP.

Species effect on decay resistance of wood exposed to exterior conditions above the ground in Spain 树种对西班牙暴露在地面以上外部条件下的木材抗腐性的影响

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of the species on the biological resistance of wood against decay and to propose corrective values of the critical dose. To evaluate the species effect, the evolution of the number of days per year with moisture content exceeding 18% was assessed in flat sawn 20x100x750 mm3 test samples of Laricio, Scots and Radiata pines and also of Norway spruce, Eucalypt (globulus) and sweet chestnut during the years 2016, 2017 and 2018, exposed at seven locations in Spain with the most representative Spanish climates. A value of 1.0 is proposed for the four conifers, 2.51 for the Eucalypt and 1.84 for the Sweet chestnut. As regards the species effect it was not possible to separate that corresponding to the different wetting/releasing ability of each species and that of their crack susceptibility, both aspects having to be evaluated together as “species factor”.

Lightweight recycled gypsum with residues of expanded polystyrene and cellulose fiber to improve thermal properties of gypsum 用膨胀聚苯乙烯和纤维素纤维的残留物制成的轻质再生石膏,以改善石膏的热性能

In this study, different proportions of gypsum composite reinforced with recycled cellulose fibers and expanded polystyrene were produced to study the properties of thermal conductivity, density, and flexural strength to be used as sealing plates to improve the thermal comfort of buildings. Different gypsum matrix composites were produced with varied proportions of cellulose fiber and expanded polystyrene, to analyze the influence of residues on the properties of the material. The thermal conductivity obtained for composites with greater amounts of expanded polystyrene was 0.18 W/mK, a 48% reduction in relation to plasterboard, improving thermal performance. The flexural strength was also analyzed, which met the minimum strength requirement for use as gypsum composites, however, it is not enough to be used in places that require mechanical resistance, thus it is indicated for sealing plates applications, improving the thermal performance of places where only plasterboard is used.

Analysis of the influence of partial replacement of mineral aggregate by basaltic rock dust on the production of industrialized adhesive mortar 玄武岩粉部分替代矿物集料对工业化粘结砂浆生产的影响分析

The production of adhesive mortar uses large proportions of sand, causing undesirable environmental impact as this is a finite resource. In recent years, the insertion of civil construction waste in cement matrixes has intensified with the objective of replacing sand in the mortar manufacturing process. Therefore, in this study, the proportions of 5%, 10%, 15% substitution of the mineral aggregate by basalt dust waste in the production of industrialized adhesive mortar were adopted. The reference mixture of 1:3 (cement: sand) was adopted and the water/dry material ratio was set at 0.20. The adhesive mortars produced in the tests to determine the consistency index, water retention, mass density, open time, tensile strength and water absorption by capillarity were analyzed. The results were satisfactory, demonstrating that it is feasible to use the waste as a substitute for sand in the production of industrialized adhesive mortars.

Steel is responsible for providing resistance to flexotraction to reinforced concrete structures. Steel is responsible for providing reinforced concrete structures with a flexural strength. For this reason, it is important to study its behaviour under different tensile states. This study used measuring equipment that was able to determine variations in magnetic properties of B500-SD steel bars during standard tensile tests. The magnetic field generated by a Helmholtz coil was collected through a secondary circuit. This enables the induced electromotive force to relate with the steel deflection stages when subjected to the tests. Moreover, it was possible to determine the variation of magnetic permeability when submitting 12mm and 16mm diameter bars to different tensile states. This method could prove extremely useful in determining the tensile state of ribbed steel bars that are embedded into the concrete structure.

Experimental study of a noise reducing barrier made of fly ash 粉煤灰降噪屏障的实验研究

Although fly ash is commonly used as an additive to cement, large amounts of this material are disposed in landfills. To mitigate, it would be interesting to develop new products in which fly ash can be easily used and required in large quantities. In this work, fly ash is added to manufacture eco-friendly materials with acceptable acoustic and non-acoustic properties and a low cost. We built a barrier composed of fly ash (60 wt.%), type II Portland cement (25 wt.%), vermiculite (14.5 wt.%) and polypropylene fibers (0.5 wt.%). The barrier complied with the mechanical requirements of European standards. The sound absorption coefficient and the airborne sound insulation were determined in a reverberation room, and the barrier was classified as A2 and B3. No leaching problems were observed.

Sintering of sepiolite-rich by-products for the manufacture of lightweight aggregates: technological properties, thermal behavior and mineralogical changes 烧结富含海泡石的副产品生产轻质骨料:技术性能、热行为和矿物学变化

A sepiolite mining by-product (SEP) has been studied as major component for lightweight aggregate (LWA) manufacture. Pellet bursting during firing was avoided by the addition of 2.5 wt% of thermoplastic waste (P) and 2.5 wt% P + 2.5 wt% carbon fiber residue (FC) in powder form. The mixtures were pelletized and then sintered at 1225o˚C for 4 minutes in a rotary kiln. Highly porous white LWAs with good mechanical strength were produced. A mineralogical study revealed the formation of amorphous phase ( > 50%) and minor proportions of enstatite, protoenstatite and diopside. Quartz was the only inherited mineral, appearing in the form of isolated phenocrysts within a general porphyritic texture. The result of this study suggests the promising use of sepiolite (whether or not in residue form) for the manufacture of high quality LWAs.
