The purpose of this study was to analyze practical literature with a systemic functional linguistics approach. The ideal, textual, and interpersonal meanings will be analyzed using the short story “Cinderaras” by Cerita Rakyat from East Java. The researchers used descriptive qualitative methods. The stories were divided into sections and analyzed into tables using Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL). The result of ideational metafunction analysis showed that most of the text used material and verbal processes which reached the value of 33,33%, behavioral processes reached the value of 22,22% and the last was 11,11% of behavioral processes. The result of textual metafunction analysis showed that 83,33% were topical unmarked themes and 16,66% were topical marked themes. In other words, it can be said that the “Cinderaras” was simple and concise and focused on actions and events and how the characters communicate, speak, or interact with each other. Keywords: systemic functional linguistics; short story

The posttest was carried out after the treatment was applied Talk English Application by utilizing the application as a media support in learning English. The data was collected by spoken test as a research data instrument. The technique of data analysis is Two Ways Analysis of Variance (ANNOVA) with significance level P = 0.000 < 0.05. It was found that talk english application on student’ speaking ability was more effective. So the writer suggest to all teachers, especially English teachers, to implement talk english application in the teaching and learning speaking ability. This study aims to analyze the linguistic features of three translated versions of Surah Ad Duha with the help of Vinay and Darbelnet's translation theory. The analysis is based on the seven translation procedures proposed by Vinay and Darbelnet, which include transposition, modulation, equivalence, adaptation, borrowing, literal translation, and oblique translation. The study examines the translators approach which reveals the original linguistic and cultural choices made by the translators to convey the intended message. The study provides tactics of understanding and translating religious texts keeping in consideration the differences in linguistic and cultural features, the use of rhetorical devices, sentence structures, and word choices, and how they contribute to the overall meaning and message of religious textsfor distinct audience. The findings of this research can be used to enhance the understanding of the linguistic and literary aspects of the Qur'an, as well as provide insights into the translation of religious texts. This study employed poly-systemic approach to Urdu-English translated version of the seminal text “Salome” where the researcher tried to find out the peri-textual feature in both the versions while comparing them. Furthermore. This study aimed to explore the cultural influence on language spoken within a specific area. The method used in this study was descriptive-qualitative in nature. It used two different versions of the same text. The textual analysis established, while taking into consideration the initial, preliminary and operational norms (taken from the peritexts), that majority of the translators and translation critics aligned with the target-oriented or acceptability paradigm and reflected as well as conformed to the secondary position of translation in literary (poly) systems of Pakistan. However, the study found that found that people usually share their culture with other while using language. Moreover, the two versions have specific terminologies representing same ideologies or concepts but they have different sentence constructions. The study was significant as it not only offers contextual information about the process of translation provided by the translators and critics but also because of being first of its kind in Pakistan. Keywords: Salome; compative translation analysis; poly-systemic approach; peri-textual feature

This study examined Allama Iqbal’s poem “Kabhi Ae Haqeeqat-e-Muntazir” through Eugene Nida’s dynamic equivalence model, evaluating Dr. Mustansir Mir’s English translation against the original Urdu text. The analysis revealed a nuanced interplay between literal meaning and metaphorical expression, highlighting challenges in conveying cultural nuances. The Findings indicated that Mir’s translation adeptly preserves the essence of Iqbal’s profound themes—encompassing the quest for truth, the transcendent power of music, the soul’s significance, sacrifice, peace, and sincerity in prayer. By navigating linguistic complexities and cultural barriers, the translation succeeds in ensuring accessibility and cultural resonance for a wider audience, affirming Nida’s principles in maintaining fidelity to the original while adapting it to a different linguistic and cultural milieu. Keywords: Dynamic Translation; Nida’s Linguistic Model; Iqbal’s Poetry

This research paper aims to study Norman Fairclough's three-dimensional model for a critical discourse analysis of John Donne's poem "Go and Catch a Falling Star." Rooted in Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and building upon Fairclough's critique of Critical Linguistics, the study explores the hidden ideologies and societal attitudes embedded in the text. The poem, published in 1633, presents a satirical examination of women's perceived infidelity, and Fairclough's model serves as a tool to unravel the complexities of its linguistic features, discursive practices, and socio-cultural implications. The analysis reveals anti-feministic undertones within the broader context, where societal norms and power dynamics played a crucial role in shaping discourse. By examining the poem through the three dimensions of Fairclough's model—text, discursive practice, and sociocultural practice—the research contributes to a deep understanding of how language choices perpetuate certain perceptions of women and contribute to broader societal narratives during this historical period. Keywords: Critical Discourse Analysis, Norman Fairclough’s Model, Go and Catch a Falling Star
本研究论文旨在研究诺曼-费尔克拉夫(Norman Fairclough)对约翰-多恩(John Donne)的诗歌《去抓住一颗流星》(Go and Catch a Falling Star)进行批判性话语分析的三维模型。
