The objective of the study is to find out whether it is effective or not using jigsaw learning model in teaching reading comprehension of spoof text to the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 13 Palembang. In this study, the researcher used experimental method. The population of this study is all the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 13 Palembang with the total numbers of students was 392. Therefore, the sample of the study is 72 students consist two classes, namely: 36 students for control group and 36 students for experimental group. The sample was taken by using non purposisve random sampling method. The data collected by using written test consist of 30 questions and the type of questions is multiple choice. The result of the test was analyzed by using t-test which were pair sample t-test and independent sample t-test was known as: mean of post test in expermental group was 72.22 higher than past test mean score of control group was 58.64. Furthermore, the result of t-obtained was 6.132 and t-table was 2.030, it shows that t-obtained was higher than t-table. From the explanation above, there were significant difference between the experimental group that have been taught by using jigsaw learning model and control group that was not taught using treatment. It means that, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It was concluded that it was effective of using jigsaw learning model to teach reading comprehension of spoof text to the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 13 Palembang.

The phenomenon of culture shock has some impacts on foreigners (i.e. psychological impact and intellectual impact), especially for foreign students studying in a new country. This research is aimed at figuring out the dominant aspects of culture shocks faced by the three Thai students studying at Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang and how they cope with it. Descriptive-qualitative method was used in this research. To collect the data, the researchers used interview and questionnaire. Coding technique was used in analyzing the data. The results showed two dominant aspects of culture shocks found, namely: academic shocks (i.e teacher’s role and attitude, poorly organized program and classroom organization, and local students’ attitude). and social shocks (i.e.women-men relationship, community bonding, habits in social gathering). Generally, the three Thai students coped with the shock by preparing mental and psychology, as well as learning academic destination.

English competence is always needed in this globalization era. TOEFL test is always used due to measure students’ ability in understanding English spoken and written. Grade Point Average (GPA) and religious performance practice are suspected whether or not influence students English language competence. In this paper, religious practice and Grade Point Average (GPA) correlated to English language competence at the economic and business students’ faculty of Muhammadiyah University Palembang. Recent research demonstrated a positive correlation between religious practice and academic performance to English competence. Students’ religiosity was measured using Centrality of Religiosity Scale (CRS) ready-made questionnaire, while academic performance was measured by Grade Point Average (GPA) and TOEFL test was used to determine students’ English language competence. The statistical analysis revealed that there was no significant correlation between students’ religious performance to English language competence. Meanwhile, Grade Point Average showed positive correlation to English language competence.

This study aimed for finding out whether or not (1) there is a significant influence of intelligence quotient on students’ English achievement; (2) there is a significant influence of emotional quotient on students’ English achievement; (3) there is a significant influence of intelligence quotient and emotional quotient on students’ English achievement. The population of this study consisted of 223 students of the tenth grade student of senior high school 6 of Palembang. The sample was selected by using simple random sampling. The data were collected by using documentation, questionnaire, and tests. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic and inferential statistic (correlation and regression analyses), F-test for multiple correlation and t-test for partial correlation, significant 95% (0.05) by SPSS version 15. The result showed that there was a low correlation of intelligence quotient on students’ English achievement (r=0.364); there was a low correlation of emotional quotient on students’ English achievement (r=0.368); there was an enough correlation of intelligence quotient and emotional quotient on students’ English achievement (r=0.468). The influence of intelligence quotient was 0.133 (13.3%) on students’ English achievement. The influence of emotional quotient was 0.136 (13.6%) on students’ English achievement. The influence of intelligence quotient and emotional quotient were 0.219 (21.9%) on students’ English achievement. The variability of students’ English achievement could be explained 21.9% by intelligence quotient and emotional quotient. The rest (78.1%) was determined by other factors.

This study was purposed at investigating the effect of Fishbowl technique and students’ Interest toward the eighth Grade students’ speaking ability. The population of this study was 300 students of SMP Xaverius 1 Palembang. From the population, there were 30 students taken as sample of experimental group and 30 students were as control group. The sample was taken using two stages random sampling. In carrying out the research, the writer used a factorial group design. Finnaly the calculation using a two-way ANOVA was used to measure an interaction between fishbowl technique and students interest on their speaking ability. Test of Between-Subjects Effects analyses, the significant value of the techniques (fishbowl and conventional) and the students’ interest were 0.422, the probability sig. of technique was 0.175, and the interaction between high and low interest was 0.097 which higher than the significant level of p-value 0.05, it meant that there was no a significant interactions between students’ interest and techniques. So, the research hypothesis that stated “there is no an interaction between fishbowl technique and interest toward students’ speaking ability” was accepted and the null hypothesis was not rejected based on the data finding on chapter four.

Infusing technology into English Language Teaching can contribute positive impacts toward students’ learning if it is integrated in such a way. Curriculum 2013 proposes the integration of Information Communication Technology into instructional practices. This study investigatedwhether or not the teachers of English integrated ICT into their ELT; described about how ICT was implemented in ELT; and explored the obstacles faced by the teachers of English in implementing ICT. This study surveyed ten state Senior High Schools in Palembang. Twelve teachers of English and 200eleventh grade students participated in this study chosen by using purposive samplingtechnique. In gathering the data, questionnairewas administered. The results showed that most English teachers and students integrated ICT in their classroom. ICT was implemented as instructional tools to facilitate English learning in the classroom. However, they still faced some obstacles in integrating ICT into ELT. School supports became the main factor hindering ICT implementation at schools.

In this paper, an experimental research method with pre and post test control group design was used with 70 students as the sample divided into two groups, experimental and control group. However, only the students of the experimental group were taught by using Sociogram. The obtained data were analyzed by using t-test. The students were given questionnaire to know their perceptions. The result showed that there was a significant difference in both students? writing and speaking achievements after they were tought by using Sociogram. Furthermore, it was found that there was a significant difference in students? writing and speaking achievement between the experimental and control groups. In conclusion, Sociogram improves the students? writing and speaking achievements.
