In the design of solid-lubricated gears, knowledge of the wear behavior is essential for service life calculations. The detailed wear analysis of a MoS2:Ti TiN solid lubricant system on gear analogy test specimens shows that continuous wear of the MoS2 solid lubricant takes place on the contact surface and a specific local wear characteristic occurs in the areas with initial roughness peaks. The question arises whether the specific wear characteristic can be determined with a wear calculation. By taking into account the real topography of the test shaft and experimentally determined wear coefficients, it was shown that a qualitative relationship exists between the real wear and the calculated total frictional energy on a local level. However, the wear calculation shows that further research is needed in the future to predict locally severe wear.

In this work, the dependence of the friction and wear behaviour in dry-lubricated steel-bronze contact on the dry lubricant used and on the substrate material (steel or bronze) under constant load was investigated. For this purpose, a block two-disc test rig was used, with the dry lubricants PA66-PTFE-cb as blocks, which were produced via chemical bonding (cb) of polyamide 66 (PA 66) and radiation-modified polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). The results provide a good basis for the selection of a suitable dry lubricant and the counter body for the transfer of the dry lubricant in dry lubricated worm gears consisting of a steel worm and a bronze wheel.

Anti-fretting pastes are an effective way of protecting the contact partners of shaft-hub connections in an industrial drive system from the wear phenomenon of fretting. qulification of an anti-fretting paste in the entire industrial drive system is not economically feasible due to the wide range of environmental influences. Therefore, the tribological system of a shaft-hub connection is abstracted along a test chain on model levels and investigated on model test rigs. the results are validated using a near-field application with real shaft-hub connections to finally derive a suitalbe model test for future qualification.

Rolling-sliding contacts, such as the tooth flank contact, are tribological systems whose properties are determined by the interactions between the contacting bodies, the lubricant and the ambient medium. Innovative manufacturing processes are being used to reduce friction and increase the load-carrying capacity of highly loaded rolling-sliding contacts. For mixed friction conditions, bowl-shaped structures in particular, generated for example by laser machining, have led to improved running behavior. Similar to laser machining, machine hammer peening (MHP) also produces a deterministic surface structure that can exhibit improved tribological properties. In recent years, MHP has been used specifically to optimize the service life of highly stressed tools, e.g. in deep-drawing processes, and has been developed further in a targeted manner. In this report, the rolling strength of machine-hammered surfaces is evaluated using fatigue tests on a disk-on-disk test rig gear-typical contact conditions. The MHP can be used to increase the contact strength in a targeted manner, whereby the selection of the process parameters during surface hammering represent an important influencing factor. In particular, the surface can be pre-damaged by excessive impact energy as a result of the ram stroke.

This paper presents two methods for estimating energy losses when using catalog bearings on a global scale. These methods, which are based on current standards, provide an approximation for determining the energy balance of bearings. The advantages and disadvantages of the proposed methods are discussed.

With the aid of the universal orthogonal two-disk tribometer „MopeD Qs2STg500“, a new application-oriented method is developed for testing stud type track roller materials and lubricants under various running conditions. The tests are carried out under circulating oil lubrication. This laboratory test method is used to map cam roller gears from a wide range of industrial applications, such as gear changes on lathes in series production or the implementation of cyclic motion profiles on automatic machines. The wear tests are carried out on two different axial cam materials with cam rollers made of the standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6.

Journal bearings in drive trains of ships in Arctic and Antarctic operations show wear and fatigue damage resulting from collision between the propeller and drift ice. The damage requires costly drivetrain maintenance in dry dock, which can be reduced by loadappropriate design and predictive maintenance measures However, this requires a reliable life time calculation of marine drive train bearings subjected to stochastic ice loads. In the following investigations, the influence of different load characteristics of a propeller-ice collision on the contact states in the drive train bearings of ships is investigated in order to be able to estimate the influence of different load characteristics in terms of the development of future life time models. For the investigations, a MBD and EHD model of the drive train of the research vessel SA Agulhas II was built. The results show that the load characteristics “load duration”, “load height” and “load orientation” and the operating parameter “oil temperature” have a high influence on the contact states in the drive train bearings and must be taken into account for future life time calculations.

Plant extracts from natural and renewable resources have the potential to replace conventional antioxidants in many applications and to increase the stability of lubricants. By specific selection of raw materials and adaptation of extraction parameters, the properties of the additives can be specifically optimized for the respective application. Easy-to-perform photometric assays enable targeted and rapid process adjustment and pre-selection of extracts. Later, they can be evaluated in application-oriented analytical methods, such as the rancimat test, with regard to their effect in the oil. In our analyses, secondary plant compounds increased the oxidation stability by 300 %, whereas the conventional antioxidants only achieved an increase of 200 %.
