Un ensemble de méthodes permettant d'étudier de nombreux gènes simultanément, pour élucider leurs fonctions ; ainsi se définit la génomique fonctionnelle. En recherche, cette discipline permet de développer des modèles quantitatifs de cellules et d'organismes ; dans un cadre plus strictement médical, elle facilitera considérablement l'identification de nouvelles cibles pour les médicaments.
