Background
Individuals diagnosed with ADHD exhibit a notably higher incidence of sleep issues compared to the general population. Although a substantial amount of research has been conducted on ADHD and sleep, there is a noticeable lack of all-encompassing bibliometric analyses in this area. The objective of this study was to utilize bibliometric approaches to examine publications concerning sleep problems in the ADHD population.
Methods
Research articles focusing on sleep problems in ADHD were sourced from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. Bibliometric techniques were employed to analyze papers on sleep problems and ADHD, construct networks of authors, countries, journals, and keywords in this domain, and present the findings in a visual format.
Results
A total of 2384 publications were pinpointed. The volume of publications in this field has shown a steady upward trend over the past twenty years. The United States made the most significant contributions. Harvard University and Cortese Samuele were identified as the most productive institution and author, respectively. The Journal of Attention Disorders was the most frequently published academic journal. The main research hotspots can be encapsulated as the clinical diagnosis of ADHD with co-occurring sleep disorders and associated interventions.
Conclusion
This study pinpoints the leading organizations and nations, journals, and authors in the field of sleep in ADHD. Improving case identification, finding the diagnostic and etiological markers of ADHD and sleep disorders, and developing more efficacious clinical interventions should be the foundation for this field's future development.
