This paper proposes a system for recognizing human complex activities by using unobtrusive sensors such as smartphone, smartwatch and bluetooth beacons. The method encapsulates two classification stages. The former is composed of two parallel processes: the Main Activity Detection (MAD) and the Room Detection (RD). The latter implements the Complex Activity Detection (CAD) process by exploiting the outputs of the first stage and the accelerometer data of the smartwatch. The cascade classification approach that combines the room detection with the main/complex activities recognition task constitutes the novelty of the work. Preliminary results demonstrate the reliability of the system in terms of accuracy and macro-Fl score.

We propose to leverage the virtualization possibilities of Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) together with the programmability of Software Defined Networking (SDN) in order to offer a portfolio of IoT-related functions to the residential users. The objectives are to reach economies of scale by offering a reasonably inexpensive customer premises equipment supporting most IoT physical communication options, whereas all self-discovery and the rest of vendor-specific functionality is externalized and implemented by the ISP (Internet Service Provider) or third parties.

In order to efficiently reduce the amount of the electricity usage in the residential area, the demand response (DR) of the consumers is of importance. The in-home display (IHD) system provides energy monitoring information for the consumer DR. Recently, we have developed several types of IHD systems, which are based on 2.4GHz ZigBee, the power line communication technique, and the sub-GHz narrow-bandwidth radios. In this paper, different types of IHDs are introduced and their technologies including network architectures are compared.

In a video conference, eye-contact between conferees is an important issue because it makes them feel immersive and friendly. An eye-contact feeling does not mean only parallel gaze angle between conferees. For a real eye-contact feeling, it is necessary that the conferee's face is also perpendicular to the camera so that users feel a face-to-face conversation to the conferee. In this paper, we present a new method to reorient a face for the real eye-contact using a generic 3D face model based on a single camera.

Our new distributed mobile cache system, a sustainable distributed Geocast technology, enables data caching temporarily in a designated local area. We released the open software development kit (SDK) for embedded systems. This paper explains details of the developed open SDK, an implementation guide, and three applications using this SDK1.
