This study is an ongoing work to develop a smart mobile health care system for the delivery of health care services to the aged. In this paper, we focus on developing a mapping function algorithm that matches the location of a device used by nurses to that of a patient, especially the aged, to find the optimal distance and direction. After a patient has requested health care service, the algorithm generates random location data, then computes the distances and direction within a geographical location. The mapping function algorithm was inspired by the behaviour of the kestrel bird. The proposed algorithm was evaluated by testing with pre-determined and random location data on latitude and longitudinal data. The experiment results demonstrate that the mapping function was able to find the optimal distance between two different locations.

Dialogue Systems are increasingly popular with the recent advances in neural approaches and NLP applied to conversational AI. Alexa, Siri, Cortana, Google Mini are handily used by many users to do small tasks and control their home appliances in hands free style. Enterprises are also deploying 24 × 7 dialogue agent in place of traditional customer support to increase user engagement and improve their processes. Dialogue Systems are also augmented with Robots to improve human-robot dialogues.Conversational Agents are classified into two main types: Social bots/Chitchat bots and Task Oriented Dialogue Agents. Social bots aim to engage user with unstructured human conversations. These dialogue agents don’t have fixed aim to complete and focus more on carrying out open domain conversations. For example ALIZA, Microsoft XiaoIce etcOn the other hand, Task oriented dialogue agents help user to accomplish certain tasks in specific domains like Restaurant booking, Flight reservation, customer support etc. These are popularly used in controlling home appliances and carrying out simple tasks by users in day to day life. Siri, Alexa, Google Mini, Cortana are task oriented dialogue agents. There is increasing interest in building task completion dialogue agents that span over multiple sub-domains to accomplish a complex user goal. With the increasing acceptance of Dialogue Agents, there is need of high-quality, large-scale dialogue datasets for better performance of task oriented dialogue agent in changing environment. Neural approaches are applied to design intelligent dialogue agents frequently which require very large datasets. However, there are following challenges while building intelligent task completion dialogue systems. Firstly, there are a lot of datasets available for chit-chat bots but they are not directly relevant to task oriented systems. Secondly, to scale out the system to new domains with limited in-domain data.In this paper, we studied different data collection methods, important characteristics of dialogue datasets and their potential uses. This paper presents a survey of publicly available datasets and their applicability for designing modern task - oriented dialogue agents.

The effect of asymmetric adjustment on the ability of variants of minimum description length criteria was investigated in their ability to recover the true Data Generating Process. A Monte Carlo method was employed within the linear Asymmetric Price Transmission modelling framework. Results indicated empirically that application of a more complex model or increase in the number of asymmetric adjustment parameters improves the recovery of the true data generating process by the model selection methods. Minimum Description Length criteria are very reliable and useful in Asymmetric Price Transmission modelling. Researchers should always aim at stronger levels of asymmetry to achieve optimal Asymmetric Price Transmission linear models.

Residue Number System (RNS) is an unweighted number system that symbolizes large integers with smaller numbers. It has the ability to perform operations such as addition and multiplication in parallel. Because of this property, RNS is extensively used in communication, Finite Impulse Response (FIR), cryptography, and signal processing devices. The transfer of data in digital channel is very important for some critical applications where accuracy is very important. This work proposes a novel algorithm that is premised on the Hamming Distance (HD) and one of the reverse conversion methods, which is, the Chinese Remainder Theorem (CRT) and as a joint technique for detecting and correcting multiple bit errors in RNS. The algorithm provides more efficient technique that improves on the hardware size and increases the processing speed with less iterations when compared with other state-of-the-art schemes. An area-delay comparison analysis done and compared with other known schemes in this work revealed the effectiveness of the proposed scheme in terms of area and delay requirements.

We propose an age recognition method that compares a pair of image instances from the same gender for the three conditions of reflexivity, antisymmetry, and transitivity corresponding to older, similar, and younger than respectively. The approach uses a small number of reference set to address performance issues due to the lack of datasets for age recognition. Experimental results demonstrate that the use of a few optimally selected class references for the comparison resulted in a dramatic improvement on the baseline. Thus, with a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 4.07 and Cumulative score (CS) of 93.87% on the adience dataset, our proposal shows superiority among other gender-inspired age recognition proposals.

Stochastic variance or amount of noise has influenced Information-Theoretic Fit Criteria’s (ITFC) ability to recover the true DGP or select the optimal Asymmetric Price Transmission (APT) linear model among candidate ones. This study introduces variants of the Minimum Description Length criterion to APT modelling framework through a 1000 Monte Carlo simulations using a sample of 150 and compares them to the performances of widely used AIC and BIC. Results indicate that the performance of all criteria deteriorates with increasing noise across both standard and complex APT models. At higher noise level (3), eMDL and gMDL are alternatives to AIC which recovered strongest while nMDL is superior to all other criteria in recovering the true standard and complex models, respectively. The eMDL and gMDL outperformed all criteria (standard models) whilst nMDL and rMDL also outperformed all criteria (complex models) when the noise level was moderate (2). Lastly, at a lower noise level (1), rMDL was comparable to BIC which recovered strongest whiles nMDL is an alternative to AIC which was superior for the standard and complex models, respectively. Lower noise improves the performance of model selection methods in their ability to recover the true data generating process.

The adoption of blended learning as an innovative approach to teaching and learning in higher education has increased in today’s 21st century classroom. And with the diversity of learners and their different learning styles, instructors are constantly looking at ways to engage learners in and outside of the classroom. The online aspect of blended learning provides learners with the flexibility and ease of learning anytime and anywhere as against face-to-face learning, thus leading to learner satisfaction. This paper assessed how online learning has enhanced students’ learning engagement and learner satisfaction in a blended course. The results showed that blended learning enhanced student engagement and that the students were satisfied with the blended course. Although a few students commented that unstable internet access was a challenge, overall, the blended learning experience was positive.

This paper focuses on the evaluation of broadband power line communication taking in terms of data transmission and the delayed measured and compared to theoretical values. The utilization of communication systems has expanded rapidly. However, there is a need to deploy new telecommunication systems and transmission technologies that can carry more data and allows faster transmission at a minimal cost. Due to this, the effect of high latency, noise and interference in communication networks is one major challenge that pose great danger to faster and successful data transmission. We use data obtained from the software tool (ICMP) which recorded the ping statistics and (SPSS) in data coding and analysis. Broadband power line communication may be seen as complementary or alternative solutions to traditional fixed line networks and wireless networks according to existing network architectures with PLC bandwidths set to increase

Detecting water leakage and reporting the leakage timely is one of the challenges faced by water distributing companies in developing nations. This paper employs a nature-inspired search method for optimal location search to water leakage sources for Ghana Water and Sewage Services Company. The nature-inspired method aid in mapping IoT-edge computing devices used by the water and sewage workers, especially in the cities and urban areas, to find and locate leaked pipelines. Once, a water and sewage worker receive a trigger from any location that there are leakages, the algorithm generates the location data which automatically processes the distance, geographic location, and direction. In this paper, a nature-inspired algorithm based on the behaviour of a Kestrel bird was used as the mapping function. The developed algorithm was tested and evaluated using pre-defined and random locations based on their latitudes and longitudinal data. The proposed algorithm was evaluated against BAT algorithm. Findings from the data indicated that the proposed KSA used as mapping function, was successful in providing the optimal distance after receiving water leakage geographic location data from IoT edge computing devices.
