Quality of Experience Management of Smart City services 智慧城市服务体验管理质量

This paper investigates the applicability of QoE management on Smart City services. First, we analyze how quality management is implemented for traditional public services (services for which the presence of ICT technologies is limited or not necessary). We then propose a potential framework for the QoE management in Smart City services (traditional public services supported by an important, but not essential, presence of ICT systems), which is based on ICT systems for QoE prediction and management. Finally, we highlight the challenges to be addressed in the near future.

Comparison of Compression Efficiency between HEVC/H.265, VP9 and AV1 based on Subjective Quality Assessments HEVC/H压缩效率的比较。265, VP9和AV1基于主观质量评价

The growing requirements for broadcasting and streaming of high quality video continue to trigger demands for codecs with higher compression efficiency. AV1 is the most recent open and royalty free video coding specification developed by Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) with a declared ambition of becoming the most popular next generation video coding standard. Primary alternatives to AV1 are the VP9 and the HEVC/H.265 which are currently among the most popular and widespread video codecs used in applications. VP9 is also a royalty free and open specification similar to AV1, while HEVC/H.265 requires specific licensing terms for its use in commercial products and services. In this paper, we compare AV1 to VP9 and HEVC/H.265 from rate distortion point of view in a broadcasting use case scenario. Mutual comparison is performed by means of subjective evaluations carried out in a controlled environment using HD video content with typical bitrates ranging from low to high, corresponding to very low up to completely transparent quality. We then proceed with an in-depth analysis of advantages and drawbacks of each codec for specific types of content and compare the subjective comparisons and conclusions to those obtained by others in the state of the art as well to those measured by means of objective metrics such as PSNR.

Psychometric scaling of TID2013 dataset TID2013数据集的心理测量量表

TID2013 is a subjective image quality assessment dataset with a wide range of distortion types and over 3000 images. The dataset has proven to be a challenging test for objective quality metrics. The dataset mean opinion scores were obtained by collecting pairwise comparison judgments using the Swiss tournament system, and averaging votes of observers. However, this approach differs from the usual analysis of multiple pairwise comparisons, which involves psychometric scaling of the comparison data using either Thurstone or Bradley-Terry models. In this paper we investigate how quality scores change when they are computed using such psychometric scaling instead of averaging vote counts. In order to properly scale TID2013 quality scores, we conduct four additional experiments of two different types, which we found necessary to produce a common quality scale: comparisons with reference images, and cross-content comparisons. We demonstrate on a fifth validation experiment that the two additional types of comparisons are necessary and in conjunction with psychometric scaling improve the consistency of quality scores, especially across images depicting different contents.

Streaming Characteristics of Spotify Sessions Spotify会话的流媒体特性

Internet Service Providers need a thorough understanding of a service to maximize the Quality of Experience (QoE) of their customers by network management. Instead of quantifying the user satisfaction with long and cost-intensive subjective user studies, the QoE can often be estimated with the help of dedicated measurements of application and network parameters. We designed a QoE measurement tool for the popular audio streaming service Spotify that runs inside a Docker software container. The container is able to run headlessly as active measurement probe and emulates a user who is streaming audio files via Spotify. While streaming, network and application parameters are collected that have a high correlation to the user's QoE. The results of the measurements are used to characterize audio streaming in Spotify on application and network layer, and to evaluate important QoE factors.

Effects of delay on perceived quality, behavior and oscillatory brain activity in dyadic telephone conversations 延迟对二元电话交谈中感知质量、行为和振荡脑活动的影响

End-to-end delay is an important factor when studying the quality of modern packet-based telephone conversations. Other than most degradations, delay cannot be assessed by listen-only tests and mainly impacts the structure and interactivity of the conversation. Because of this, the modeling of the perceived quality of conversation under delay is dependent on various instrumental as well as human-related influencing factors. Physiological methods in particular might provide additional insights into how human participants are affected by such quality degradations during natural conversations. In the present experiment, a novel dual-electroencephalo-graphy (dual-EEG) method was employed to investigate the effects of delay on 10 pairs of participants engaging in dyadic conversations. In each test session, neurophysiological activity was registered simultaneously in both interlocutors, who interacted in accordance with short conversation test scenarios (SCIs) through an audio network. Meanwhile, delays of different magnitudes (0, 800, 1600 ms) were inserted into the network, which was expected to interfere with the conversation and cause changes in the participants' internal processing and state. Analysis of subjective and behavioral measures shows a decrease in perceived quality and of conversational interactivity with higher levels of delay. Moreover, an initial intra-brain analysis of the recorded dual-EEG data (N = 18) revealed significant modulations in beta and gamma frequency bands by varying delay level. This suggests that attentional load increased with high delay, probably due to less amounts of single talk and focusing more on the adaptation of the own turn-taking behavior.

Predicting personality traits from touchscreen based interactions 从基于触屏的互动中预测个性特征

Human influence factors can have a strong impact on how users perceive the quality of a given system. Traditional measures such as questionnaires can be a time consuming and partially invasive means to assess human influence factors like personality. In this paper, we investigate whether an individual's personality traits can be classified based solely upon the characteristics of their touchscreen usage. We record the tablet input of 75 subjects using a cognitive training application. The application requires the user to spell words by tapping on letters and dragging them to their denoted position on the screen. The task is presented in two conditions: in one with normal functionality of the program, the other with the usability of the application impaired. The subject's personality is measured with the NEO-FFI questionnaire and captured in the five dimensions of the five-factor model (Big 5). The personality scores and 68 features (touch-behavior and task-performance), as well as statistical metrics derived from them, are fed to a number of classification algorithms. Our results show that in a binary classification task with normal usability, high levels of ‘Neuroticism’ can be distinguished from low levels with a mean accuracy of 66 percent. The extent to which a personality dimension can be predicted is dependent on the usability of the test system. In a normal setting, ‘Extraversion’ can be predicted with an accuracy of 61 percent. However, with impaired usability, the prediction rises to an average of 67 percent. The experiment shows that records of touchscreen interactions allow for the prediction of personalities significantly better than random. The study of the human influence factor personality and its relation to perceived quality would be facilitated by using touchscreen interaction data as a fast and easily accessible estimate of a user's personality.

The first impression of unknown speakers in telephone calls can determine our disposition towards our interlocutors and the conversation. While it has been asserted that narrowband communications (300-3,400 Hz) can severely affect perceived speech quality in comparison to wideband (50-7,000 Hz), transmission channel effects have been practically disregarded in the literature concerning the perception of speaker attributes or traits. In this study, listening tests have been conducted with 23 participants who were presented with narrowband and wideband speech and rated interpersonal speaker characteristics on a semantic differential questionnaire of 34 items. For each item, we evaluate how the subjective ratings correlate with perceived speech quality and whether they are affected by channel bandwidth, focusing on differences in speaker gender and in their warmth-attractiveness. The effects found, primarily on speakers' warmth, confidence and competence, can be explained by the alterations of pitch frequency variations caused by narrowband transmissions.

Hyperspectral Image Dataset for Benchmarking on Salient Object Detection 基于显著目标检测基准的高光谱图像数据集

Many works have been done on salient object detection using supervised or unsupervised approaches on colour images. Recently, a few studies demonstrated that efficient salient object detection can also be implemented by using spectral features in visible spectrum of hyperspectral images from natural scenes. However, these models on hyperspectral salient object detection were tested with a very few number of data selected from various online public dataset, which are not specifically created for object detection purposes. Therefore, here, we aim to contribute to the field by releasing a hyperspectral salient object detection dataset with a collection of 60 hyperspectral images with their respective ground-truth binary images and representative rendered colour images (sRGB). We took several aspects in consideration during the data collection such as variation in object size, number of objects, foreground-background contrast, object position on the image, and etc. Then, we prepared ground truth binary images for each hyperspectral data, where salient objects are labelled on the images. Finally, we did performance evaluation using Area Under Curve (AUC) metric on some existing hyperspectral saliency detection models in literature.

User Experience of Web Browsing - The Relationship of Usability and Quality of Experience 网页浏览的用户体验——可用性与体验质量的关系

The experience of web services depends on multiple factors such as the usability of the service itself as well as influences on Quality of Experience (QoE) like waiting times. Existing studies so far have investigated both experimental factors (usability and QoE) in isolation, thus it is not possible to investigate dependencies between the two. In this study, we manipulated the usability and QoE of a news web page in the same experiment. Participants had to solve 9 tasks (three usability level and three QoE level, all combinations). Data (N=44) from two different sessions with different QoE manipulations were recorded: Simulation of initial page display delay via 1) a complete overlay and 2) a semi-transparent overlay. Our preliminary results show that the usability manipulation resulted in significant effects along multiple dimensions (QoE, aesthetic, and usability). Furthermore, also the implementation of the QoE manipulation had an effect on, e.g., performance parameters. Surprisingly, our results reveal that participants seem to be unable to rate the constructs usability and QoE independently from each other. Even after adding pronounced explanations of the constructs to the introductory phase of the second session of the experiment, the results still show a strong correlation between the two constructs. We thus recommend for similar future experiments to check beforehand whether Quality of Experience and Usability can be reliably judged and distinguished by naive participants.

Towards Systematic Analysis of Cybersickness in High Motion Omnidirectional Video 高速全方位视频晕动症的系统分析

Simulator sickness and visual discomfort are known undesired effects of immersive media systems. In this paper, we propose a methodology to systematically evaluate the effect of camera motion in cybersickness for omnidirectional video contents. By simulating camera motion, we have isolated its effect from other content factors, showing that sickness depends on the motion pattern amplitude and frequency. We have also found that discomfort can be mitigated by introducing fixed-position visual anchors. This could help in the prevention of cybersickness on sensitive users.
