Kinematic Synthesis and Analysis of a Watt II Six-Bar Linkage for the Design and Validation of an Open Loop Solar Tracking Mechanism 用于开环太阳跟踪机构设计与验证的Watt II六杆机构运动学综合与分析

Tracking mechanisms were found to improve the performance of solar renewable energy systems that contribute to energy sustainability and security. However, the commonly used closed-loop solar trackers require sophisticated equipment that leads to high upfront costs and energy consumption. The literature suggests that simpler open-loop trackers can be sought as a feasible alternative for small-scale applications. In this study, an open-loop solar tracking mechanism was designed through the kinematic synthesis of a Watt II six-bar linkage using Freudenstein’s method and analytical position method. The desired motion of the mechanism was obtained using the solar apparent motion trajectory model. A finite number of precision points were selected using Chebyshev’s spacing to simplify the synthesis while minimizing the error. The design was validated through kinematic analysis using loop closure equations and complex number analysis. The position, velocity, and acceleration behaviors obtained from the numerical method done in MATLAB was compared to that of the graphical method done in MechAnalyzer. The synthesis results hint the special considerations needed in the physical implementation of the design, while the validation results show a general agreement between the results of the numerical and graphical kinematic analyses, implying the effectiveness of the presented methodology.

eMap: Mobile App : Map Directory of EVSU Main Campus with Web-Based Management Panel eMap:手机App: EVSU主校区地图目录,带有web管理面板

The Eastern Visayas State University - Tacloban Campus is a vast campus - which suggests that it is more confusing and complicated with regards to locating the rooms, buildings, etc. inside the university. Through the "eMap: Mobile App Map Directory of EVSU Main Campus with Web-Based Management Panel," we can lessen or even give an end to this problem. This mobile app is a map wherein you can track your current location, browse over the directories of the campus and trace the shortest and possible routes to your destination inside the university[1]. And to satisfy the users more, we added the News and Updates feature, to keep them updated on the latest events and happenings in the university [2]. The application is a navigation app, so we apply GPS to acquire location data. Since the map data from Mapbox is outdated and not detailed, we integrated an OpenStreetMap to enhance the map layout. Then through a local database, we stored the latitude, longitude, zoom, and bearing of each building to place a marker on their position. Just like most of the other mobile applications, the Android Studio is the development tool of the project.

Artificial Neural Network-Based Decision Support for Shrimp Feed Type Classification 基于人工神经网络的对虾饲料类型分类决策支持

Shrimp farming is a highly profitable business in the aquaculture industry. The farming profitability can be achieved by the implementation of better management practices in conjunction with optimal shrimp feed management and growth monitoring. Manual measurement for shrimp growth on a large population is a tedious and difficult task. Underfeeding results to lower growth rate, and overfeeding results to environmental pollution. Automated, continuous, and non-invasive methods therefore such as computer vision are being increasingly employed. However, existing researches of vision-based measurement of growth parameters are not yet incorporated to shrimp feed management. This paper presented an Artificial Neural Network-based decision support system of classifying feed type whether starter, grower or finisher using area, length and weight derived from image processing techniques. The neural network was trained using scaled conjugate gradient back propagation. The decision support system exhibited promising results in feed type classification.

An Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System Approach for Identifying Breakpoint Set for Directional Overcurrent Relays 定向过流继电器断点集辨识的自适应神经模糊推理系统方法

Primary and backup relays pairs are protection schemes for power systems which are set in conjunction to one another to ensure that the protection system operates by limiting an abnormality within its zone of protection. Breakpoints are the starting points of all assumptions and calculations done in protection systems. Previous methods of determining breakpoints favor linear graph theory and expert theory system rather than machine learning. In this study, an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference (ANFIS) approach is used to determine the breakpoint set for directional overcurrent relays of a given 3-bus network. The two most influential input variables from 15 inputs affecting breakpoint set are determined by Exhaustive Search. The reduced inputs are then used to design the Sugeno type ANFIS. Experimental results show promising results in terms of Root Mean Square Error.

H2O Absorptivity on a Fully 4-crosslinked Polyacrylamide Membrane via Density Functional Theory and Monte Carlo Calculations for Draw Solution Recovery in Forward Osmosis 全4交联聚丙烯酰胺膜的水吸收率——基于密度泛函理论和蒙特卡罗计算的正向渗透抽液回收

The draw solution recovery process is a necessary step in forward osmosis systems, such as the one being applied in the dewatering of microalgae. Among the many draw solution recovery methods, the stimuli-response regeneration technique emerged to be one of the most promising in terms of energy efficiency. However, a material with an excellent capacity to absorb water would be needed for this type of process. This study investigated the water adsorption properties of 4-crosslinked polyacrylamide membrane (PAM) by means of density functional theory and Monte Carlo calculations for potential application in draw solution recovery. A geometrically optimized, stable, and energy minimized 4-crosslinked PAM model was prepared and allowed to be immersed to different amount of water molecules. The adsorption energies of water molecules on PAM were calculated. Results indicate that water molecules are most likely to be adsorbed on the amide groups of 4-crosslinked PAM. It was shown that the addition of lower number of water molecules had the highest probability of water molecules adsorbing on PAM. It was found that the 4-crosslinked PAM can adsorb a minimum of 75 and a maximum of 145 water molecules. Results of the study would be useful as a guide for the synthesis and further characterization of PAM for draw solution recovery in forward osmosis systems, specifically in microalgae dewatering.

i-BIN: An Intelligent Trash Bin for Automatic Waste Segregation and Monitoring System i-BIN:一种用于垃圾自动分类与监控的智能垃圾桶

In the recent years, one of the underlying effects of a growing population is environmental hazard. Of these problems, the increasing amount of trash is the most critical. As the world's population continues to rise at an unprecedented rate, waste management is seen as an effective solution to mitigate the issue. In this project, Internet-of- Things were utilized to design an automatic waste segregation system. Specifically, we developed a trash bin equipped with sensors, which can intelligently segregate waste system that provides monitoring report of waste collection. Image recognition was used to process automatic classification of trash using machine learning technique. Upon training more than 2000 samples for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, the developed prototyped were able to classify trash efficiently.

An Assistive Hand Glove for Hearing and Speech Impaired Persons 一种听觉及言语障碍人士的辅助手套

Communication is more than spoken language; it is a way of expressing ones thought, ideas and messages. Communication for them has become a great challenge especially the need to communicate with normal people in their daily routine. Hearing/Speech Impaired persons used hand sign language as their language of communication; however, it will only be effective if the person they are interacting with knew the hand sign language. This study developed an assistive device for persons with hearing/speech impairment. The system was designed to interpret their signs or gesture into a corresponding message which were preloaded in the device. The device produced a voice-based message through the audio module and displays the message in LCD. This study was basically a glove based system and a microcontroller based system. Flex sensors, Gyroscope and Accelerometer were incorporated in a glove that can identify the sign language and an Arduino Nano microcontroller unit converted these gestures into voice and text output. This study developed an assistive device for persons with hearing/speech impairment. The system was designed to interpret their signs or gesture into a corresponding message which were preloaded in the device. The device produced a voice-based message through the audio module and displays the message in LCD. This study was basically a glove based system and a microcontroller based system. Flex sensors, Gyroscope and Accelerometer were incorporated in a glove that can identify the sign language and an Arduino Nano microcontroller unit converted these gestures into voice and text output. This circuit design presents a CMOS Modified Differential Voltage Multiplier co-integrated with indoor photovoltaic energy harvesting circuit for Wireless Sensor Node device in 65nm CMOS process. This work aims to supply power in Microsemi’s ZL70250, a wireless sensor network transceiver. Extraction of high DC voltage from rectifier block is always a serious bottleneck for energy harvesting. Consequently in this work, a simple mechanism to eliminate (Vth) of the MOS transistor by adding an auxiliary Pmos is proposed. Also, an additional capacitor (Cs) has been split into two capacitors that have been connected to the differential output. For analysis and comparison, the traditional and proposed voltage multiplier circuit is simulated and implemented with 3 stages with load capacitance of 100pF. The proposed voltage multiplier obtains a higher voltage conversion ratio (Gv) of 3.96, much higher than the reference voltage multiplier. The Gv and the generated boosted rectifier output voltage was obtained from 0.5V single PV. The modified architecture is integrated in indoor photovoltaic energy harvesting circuit. Accordingly, with this modification and implementation, this work able to supply power for Microsemi’s ZL70250 that requires 1.2V to 1.8V and less than 1.9mA to operate.

A Fuzzy Logic Approach for Course Outcomes-based Assessment 基于课程成果评价的模糊逻辑方法

Assessment of course outcome is essential to gauge how much knowledge and skills did a student gained at the end of a term; which is another concern of Outcomes-Based Education. Survey questionnaires were distributed to both low and middle-level management of Don Honorio Ventura State University to determine the importance of the study, 91.7% answered that the practice of assessing the course outcomes is seldom performed. This paper presents a fuzzy logic approach for evaluating the course outcome of Computer-Aided Design laboratory course among five sections of the Electronics Engineering program. There are three input variables and one output variable. Triangular Membership function (MF) was used to both variables, the Mamdani System was used in the Fuzzy Inference System, and to obtain the crisp output the centroid defuzzification was considered. The outcome scores show that only one section achieved satisfactory performance, and the rest are under poor performances, although the instructor had completed the course outline. The result of fuzzy approach provides lower values than the classical method if an assessment is low, and gives a higher value than the classical method if the assessment is high.

Development of Smart Waste Bin with Integrated Volume and Weight Sensor 集成体积重量传感器的智能垃圾箱的研制

Solid waste is a problem that keeps on increasing as the population of a country grows. Proper waste management is one solution which would help maintain our green environment. Since production increases the consumption in urban areas has also increased in the quantity of wastes generated. This paper presents a solution wherein waste management can be monitored in real time to keep track of the capacity of the bins in the vicinity using the application created by the researchers in order to assist local government of proper waste management. The proposed system will alert the municipality through the application when the measured waste level is at a certain point. The proposed system consists of ultrasonic sensor to measure the volume of the bins, the load cell to measure the weight of the bin, and an Arduino Uno which controls the system operation. As soon as it reaches a certain point the arduino will send a notification to the person in charge, so that the waste can be collected immediately.
