Audio signal is one of the most used signals especially in the development of communication technology. One common audio signal is a human voice recording. In such signal, there is a segment called unvoiced recording. These segments were usually noise produced in the background or in the device used. This research proposes to simulate the removal of equipment and environmental noise in an audio using Digital Lowpass Chebyshev type II filter. Audio signal samples were gathered using a voice recorder device. The saved file will be filter using GNU Octave software. Then, the processed sound signals are amplified for higher power. The filter designed lowpass filter was expected to attenuate the passband in the frequency of 200 Hz with 10 dB and the stopband in the frequency of 250 Hz, 275 Hz, and 300 Hz with 40 dB. Among the three different specifications of the filter, the filter that has a stopband frequency of 300 Hz exhibits the lowest value of mean and median error.

The amount and quality of urine are two of the most closely monitored signs to establish the condition of patients who undergo surgical operations. However, with the conventional way of measuring the volume and quality of the urine, loss of time and human error cannot be prevented. The study aimed to automatically measure the volume based on flow rate and the turbidity of the urine of the post-operative patients. This study focused on measuring the volume and turbidity of the urine through Continuity Flow principle using an infrared sensor and Beer-Lambert’s law using photodetector sensors, respectively. The urinary bladder system model was designed and constructed in order to demonstrate a urine discharge and test the functionality of the measuring devices. Through a mobile application, the medical staff can monitor the results of these measurements. The gathered data for volume using the device was compared to the actual measurements using a graduated cylinder. The tests revealed that actual volume is always more than the measured volume with an average flowrate of 18.1575 mL/s and an accuracy of 95.5%. Measurements on turbidity compared to the conventional way of testing the physical parameters of urine in urinalysis yielded a satisfactory testing result based on the voltage ranges resulted from Decision Tree Classifier. Furthermore, through the series of experiments conducted in the assessment of the prototype developed, the expected value compared to the actual values showed that the device output has no significant difference with the expected output.

Solar Photovoltaic Panels are conveniently used as an alternative source of energy, nowadays. Most panels have low efficiency due to low energy conversion of photovoltaic cells. The increase in temperature causes deficiency over long period of operation. Cooling systems’ main function is to maintain the operating temperature not to exceed a certain limit. This study provides the comparison of three different setups, which includes the use of a hybrid air-cooling, and water-cooling system and neuro-fuzzy based MPPT charge controller. Experiments are performed at a fixed angle of 15◦ based on location operating simultaneously. Afterwards, data gathered by the current, voltage, temperature and lux sensors are assessed for a cost-benefit analysis. Consequently, the overall efficiency of the three setups were evaluated in consideration with the total costs and losses of each system. The results further showed a significant increase of efficiency for all setups compared to the expected rating of the panel used. Moreover, the outcome shows that the use of water flowing over the front surface with fan cooling at the back while using the neuro-fuzzy based maximum power-point tracking charge controller yields the highest efficiency. The proposed Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) based MPPT yields a RMSE value of 1.5666e-05.

Cacao is one of the major crops of the tropical world and is known worldwide for its beans used for manufacturing of products which are highly popular and widely consumed around the world such as chocolate and cocoa powder. Grading the cacao beans is a method utilized by the cacao experts and farmers to ensure valuable and good supply of cacao beans in the market. However, manual grading of the cacao beans using the naked eye observation is more laborious, time consuming and less accurate. To automate the said process, a computer-based cacao beans grading system was developed using image processing and KNN algorithm. One hundred ninety (190) samples were consumed as training examples and sixty samples (60) for classification. The system was designed and developed using C# Windows Form Application as its programming language, XAMPP as its server scripting language, and MySQL as its database. The accuracy calculation of the system resulted to 93.33%, which implies that the KNN model was able to effectively grade cacao beans.

This paper presents an information system that uses image processing to automatically generate a set of procedures for dental bracing treatment displayed in a touchscreen monitor based on scanned dental x-ray as an input. The scanned x-ray image is digitized, matched with previously saved image in the database using Cosine Metric Algorithm. Also, it saves new entry for unmatched image. A printed copy of the procedure can be generated for the dentist’ and patient’s record. It is a system composed of hardware and software. The hardware consists of customized dental x-ray, control unit, monitor and printer. The software uses operating system and hardware drivers, and VB.Net to match the scanned image to the available one in the database. The result showed the system’s ability to match the scanned x-ray image to the images available in the database and save the unmatched.

Public transport vehicles are widely preferred by the mass because of the accessibility it provides. Due to its easy access, crimes like robbery, assaults and even homicides are experienced by the drivers. Hence, vehicle tracking, and alert systems are built to improve its security and safety. The existing systems are limited to physical triggering which offers minimal effectiveness because the buttons may unintentionally be pressed, or the driver is hesitant to move and unable to press the button when necessary. To eliminate the inconvenience caused by a physically triggered security system, a non-contact activation was developed with the use of speech recognition, and the Internet of Things (IoT). This study presents the evaluation of the transcription confidence level associated with background noises using the Google Speech Recognition API and the implementation of the security system in IoT. The results show that speech recognition has acquired 100% transcription accuracy around 50 dBA to 78 dBA background noise using the native language, while the tested operation latency is approximately 43 seconds during the deployment. The study paved a way for a convenient noncontact triggering security system to elevate the rapid response of crime-related incidents in public vehicle drivers through immediate notification and provision of the necessary information to authorities.

The rise of mixed-use buildings contributes to the sustainable development of cities but are still met with challenges in energy management due to the lack of energy efficiency and sustainability guidelines. The use of integrated renewable-storage energy systems is a more beneficial solution to this problem over individual solutions; however, most design studies in the literature only focus on single-type of buildings or solutions. Thus, this study aims to develop an optimization model to determine the design capacities of an integrated energy system for mixed-use buildings. The objective is to minimize net present costs, subject to sizing, energy balances, and operational constraints. The case study considered a mixed-use building in a tropical area, with solar photovoltaic system as the renewable energy source and Lithium-ion battery as the energy storage system technology. The model was developed in HOMER Grid software, and economic metrics were used to evaluate and compare the proposed system to the following design cases: business-as-usual, stand-alone renewable source, and standalone energy storage. The results show that the integrated system has the lowest equivalent annual costs despite its high capital costs. Still, it has the most attractive economic case based on the evaluation metrics compared to other design cases.

In postharvest farming, moisture content is important in determining the quality and controlling the cost of the coffee beans. However, meeting the right moisture level of the coffee bean is one of the common challenges in the coffee industry. Nonetheless, this study proposes a capacitance-based moisture measurement with quality and moisture corrector. The system is composed of electrical plates, microcontroller, built-in dryer and display. A software program was developed to determine the moisture content of the bean and classify it based on the set value of moisture content for high quality coffee bean. A built-in dryer is included to correct the moisture content of under dried coffee beans. The developed system is designed to be stand-alone and it prohibits human intervention unless during loading and unloading of the beans. Based on the results, the system can sort the beans according to moisture content and is able to measure the moisture content with 91.67% accuracy.

The advancement of image and video processing using Artificial Intelligence (AI) have brought more significance to the role of Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) systems in law enforcement and intelligent transport systems (ITS). However, the adaptation of such a system in the Philippines has been a challenge due to the different variations of Philippine license plates. In this paper, a neural network-based model for the detection and classification of different Philippine license plate formats is proposed. The proposed method classifies license plates into four categories — 1981, 2003, 2014, and other series.

Patient welfare is the concern of the healthcare provider like an OB-Gyne medical establishment. This study aimed to develop state-of-the-art information dissemination and queuing system for the patients in an OB-Gyne clinic using SMS notification. In this manner, the assessment of the system significantly provides insights for innovation. The researchers applied the basic text mining approach to the gathered data to perform the performance analysis of the existing system. The researchers created the developed system through the Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 and My SQL Server 2005. The developed system aimed to improve the patient’s experience using the most common digital hand-held device. Based on the given patient’s comments and queries, their concern is the traditional means of facilitating business to the patients. However, the management has a strong determination of transforming to digital technology. Results showed that the new system gives a significant improvement in patient experience (3.32) and usability (3.15). The developed system has positive feedback from the patients leading to successful innovation. Thus, the implementation of effective information dissemination and the queuing system is highly acceptable.
