Study on the location of thunderclouds based on irradiance characteristics under lightning meteorological conditions 基于闪电气象条件下辐照度特征的雷雨云定位研究

In the past decade, lightning activity on land has increased by more than 12% worldwide. With the deepening of the construction of “smart grid”, a large number of renewable energy sources are connected to the grid, and the grid structure and scale are more complex than before. The impact of lightning cannot be ignored. The main purpose of this paper is to prove that the irradiance characteristic curve under lightning conditions is different from that under other weather conditions from the perspective of big data, so as to provide a basis for applying the irradiance monitoring curve of photovoltaic power station to the location of thunder clouds. Firstly, through the observation of the unionized irradiance curve characteristics of a photovoltaic power station in one year under the lightning meteorological conditions using the clear sky and outer earth irradiance model as the reference value, the differences between the two kinds of irradiance curves under the lightning meteorological conditions and other meteorological conditions are described qualitatively from the perspective of graph. Secondly, from the perspective of data, the characteristics of photovoltaic output curve under lightning meteorological conditions are quantitatively analyzed, which is abstracted and defined as the characteristic curve of lightning irradiance. Finally, according to the characteristics defined by the characteristic curve of lightning irradiance, the curve with characteristics of lightning irradiance is screened from the historical data of irradiance, and the cloud and ground lightning monitoring information is used to judge whether there are thunder clouds over the photovoltaic power station in this period, and the accuracy is verified. It is considered that there are thunderclouds over the photovoltaic power plant with lightning irradiance characteristics, and the location of thunderclouds is consistent with the geographic longitude and latitude of the photovoltaic power plant. Therefore, the role of photovoltaic power plants in positioning thundercloud is realized.

The Einthoven electrical circuit for ECG measurement has been modeled as a 2.5-mA impulse current source at the heart, feeding a 13-resistor network. This model can be inverted to establish heart threat currents from electrocution potentials applied at extremities. Using designation of R (right), L (left), H (hand) and L (leg), electrical safety standard IEC 60479-1:2018 defines risk factors for LH-RH and LL-RL paths compared to reference LH-LL path. Heart current reduction factors can be fitted by adjusting some resistor values and by adding a cross-hip resistance to make nodes at each hip. This suggests an approach to validate IEC heart current factors by comparing ECG signal magnitudes for different contacts. Hypothetically, the LH-RH ECG signal should be 10x larger than the LL-RL signal. In-vivo tests suggest that some electrocution heart current factors can be verified using two-lead or three-lead ECG monitor results.

Multi-megawatt-class wind turbine development continues the race of innovation and the limit in physical dimensions still has not found its boundaries. As an example, the first 12 MW offshore wind turbine was recently commissioned with a rotor blade's length of over 100 m and a height above 250 m. With the increase in dimensions, the risk of upward and downward direct lightning strikes to the wind turbine increases and the associated effects, such as, travelling waves, overvoltages and, consequently, of outages during its duty cycle also increases. This is the background for a development of a novel electric field (E-Field) activity sensor based on gas ionization, which may act as a sensor for early E-Field activity or early warning system, as a power source for a sensor that may send a signal, or as an optical source for an optical fiber detection system.

Striking distance to flat ground estimated from the bipolar leader model and the influence of the lightning channel radius 基于双极引线模型估计的对平地的打击距离及闪电通道半径的影响

This paper proposes a physically consistent method to estimate the lightning striking distance to flat ground as a function of the return stroke charge, as well as a function of the prospective return stroke peak current. This method is based on an axisymmetric electrostatic model of charges in thunderstorm clouds used to initiate a vertical bipolar leader that develops bidirectionally from the region of maximum electrical field inside the cloud towards the ground. The leader is assumed as a perfect conductor whose potential is equal to the average cloud potential over its length. The charge simulation method is applied to calculate the leader charge distribution by the numerical solution of the Poisson equation. The striking distance to flat ground is computed when the average potential gradient between the leader tip and the ground is equal to 500 kV/m. This analysis is extended to different leader radius values, in order to evaluate its effect on striking distance, since there are some uncertainties regarding the leader radius reported in literature. Furthermore, the obtained results are compared to models from different authors.

A Method of Dynamic Control of the Power Grid based on Real-time Lightning Tracking 基于闪电实时跟踪的电网动态控制方法

Judging from the actual operation experience of the power grid, the current power flow control in thunderstorm weather cannot meet the requirements of power system operation stability. A method that can accurately and quickly control the power grid based on dynamic lightning protection technology was discussed. Based on the real-time lightning detection results and the combination with the dynamic lightning protection master terminal of the smart grid, this method can implement power flows adjustment and power loads shifting. Therefore the dynamic balance of the transmission network and distribution network are realized.
从电网的实际运行经验来看,目前雷暴天气下的潮流控制不能满足电力系统稳定运行的要求。探讨了一种基于动态防雷技术对电网进行准确、快速控制的方法。该方法基于实时雷电检测结果,结合智能电网的动态防雷主终端,实现潮流调整和电力负荷转移。从而实现了输配电网络的动态平衡。

Development and Application of the High-Gradient Zinc Oxide Varistor 高梯度氧化锌压敏电阻的研制与应用

In order to further reduce the volume of the GIS arrester and improve its performance, this article carried out the experimental analysis on the doping formula and process of high-gradient high-performance zinc oxide varistors. The influence of crucial additives on the overall performance of the varistor is obtained. Crucial processes such as debinding of the unburnt body and heat treatment of the side insulation layer are optimized. Based on the analysis, this paper completed samples of ZnO varistors with four specifications of D62, D71, D115, and D128. The D115 varistor has been applied to the 500 kV GIS arrester prototype with the miniaturized structure design and potential distribution optimization. The test results show that the potential gradient of the varistors studied in this paper is close to 400 V/mm. Varistors possess a series of excellent properties such as voltage ratio as low as 1.55 at a nominal discharge current and a current capacity up to 300 J/mm3. The 500 kV GIS arrester developed based on this varistor has a 10% reduction in residual voltage than the GB/T 11032 standard, a 15% reduction in volume compared to the traditional ones, and superior overall performance.

A Study on the First Return Stroke in a Thunderstorm Cell 雷暴单体第一次回击的研究

We have classified the first return stroke (RSlst) in a thunderstorm cell using the data recorded by a low-frequency mapping system called Fast Antenna Lightning Mapping Array (FALMA). It is found that the cloud-to-ground (CG) flashes in the cell can be apparently grouped into typical CG, hybrid CG, and CG without apparent PB processes. The majority (61/82) of RSlst are located in the area with the combined reflectivity larger than 30 dBZ. The RS1st in typical CG and in hybrid CG have nearly the same average intensities (5,900 versus. 5,700 DU), both are surprisingly smaller than that for the RS1st without PB processes (7,990 DU). The other properties, involving lightning initiation height, radar echo features, and the horizontal distance between the lightning initiation and RS1st, also have obvious differences among three types of CG flashes. In order to give explanations for such differences, we suggest that it should be deserved to further study the thunderstorm structure and charge regions in the future.

Application of Non-Gapped Line Surge Arresters to the 150 kV Overhead Lines of Rhodes: An Investigation through ATP-EMTP Simulations 非间隙线路避雷器在罗德州150kv架空线上的应用:基于ATP-EMTP模拟的研究

The application of non-gapped line surge arresters (NGLAs) to the 150 kV double-circuit overhead lines of the electrical network of Rhodes island in southeastern Aegean Sea, Greece, is investigated through ATP-EMTP simulations. Several NGLA installation configurations are studied considering the power frequency tower ground resistance and AC voltage phase angle as parameters. The simulated scenarios include lightning strikes to shield wire, as well as to phase conductors (shielding failure). The improvement of the lightning performance of an 150 kV line is quantified. The current flowing through the NGLAs and the corresponding absorbed energy are computed. The energy stress of the NGLAs due to shielding failure is more severe as compared with the case of lightning strike to the shield wire; this holds even for the highest tower ground resistance of 200 Ω considered in this study. A significant improvement of the lightning performance of the investigated 150 kV double-circuit overhead line requires the installation of at least three NGLAs per tower, protecting one of the two circuits. For the relatively low tower ground resistance of this line (10 Ω), this configuration prevents backflashover of both circuits as well. However, for higher ground resistance values six NGLAs per tower are required to completely eliminate backflashover.

Lightweight Portable Lightning Protection Shelters require the use of new materials capable of supporting the high current densities associated with lightning currents. In this paper, 30 x 30 cm2 conductive fabrics samples are subjected to 10/350 µs lightning current impulses. This experimental work, performed at the HV lab of Uppsala University, is aimed at understanding the transversal pattern of scratches or striations observed in conductive fabrics in previous experiments performed at the HV lab of Universidad Nacional de Colombia with 8/20 µs lightning impulse currents. Striations were recorded with both a still camera and a fast-recording camera, while the samples current was measured. Additionally, the withstand current density of the tested conductive fabrics was obtained.

Damage Threshold of Surge Arrester Depending on Configuration of Power Distribution Line 配电线路配置对避雷器损伤阈值的影响

The authors investigated the probability of surge arrester burnout accidents for the various configurations of power distribution lines. Specifically, the authors calculated damage threshold of surge arresters in case of lightning strike to the center of LIL(a straight distribution line of infinite length), near the branch pole of LWB (a distribution line with a branch point), or near the termination of LWT (a straight distribution line with a termination point), based on numerical calculation by XTAP (expendable transient analysis program). If there is an overhead ground wire on a distribution line, damage threshold of surge arresters on the LWB and on the LWT is influenced by the branch position in relation to the lightning striking pole as well as the wave tail duration of lightning current. If there is no overhead ground wire, damage threshold of surge arresters is almost the same regardless of the line configuration and position of lightning strike. All above results can be explained easily by the equivalent circuit developed in this paper.
