We propose and investigate a novel, rapid method for contactless spatial imaging of minority charge carrier lifetimes based on compressed sensing. The proposed method demonstrates an order of magnitude potential increase in imaging speeds.

The physical principles of a chip-based Brillouin laser gyroscope are reviewed. The device can resolve sinusoidal rotations with amplitude as low as 5 degrees/hour and is also used to detect the Earth’s rotation.

We propose a method for slowing, cooling and trapping Yb atoms using stimulated forces and only the 1S0→ 3P1 transition. With laser frequency chirp, our computer simulation predicts a MOT loading rate over 108 atoms/s.

In this paper, we present dispersion engineering in vertically coupled III- nitride (GaN/AlN/GaN) waveguides for short (blue) wavelengths. Peak anomalous dispersion ≈1.83 × 105 ps/nm − km is achieved by tuning the geometric parameters and thereby coupling strength of the waveguides.

We report on Czochralski growth, structure, spectroscopy and laser operation of tetragonal disordered calcium aluminate crystals, Tm, Ho:Ca(Gd, Lu)AlO 4 . The laser generates 763 mW at 2078.6 nm with a slope efficiency of 26.4% (tuning range: 212 nm).

In this work, vertical metasurface integrated cavity surface-emitting lasers (VMCSELs) have been proposed and designed into back-emitting configuration. We have demonstrated that the integration with metasurface allows the effective control of the lasing emission wavefront.
