Background: Oxidative stress is closely related to many diseases, especially autoimmune diseases. Many previous studies have shown that there is a close relationship between oxidative stress and the development of hyperthyroidism, but the oxidative stress indicators in patients with hyperthyroidism and the correlation between oxidative indicators and lipid metabolism remain controversial. The aim of this study was to investigate the levels of three oxidative stress indicators Diacron Reactive Oxygen Metabolites, Biological Antioxidant Potential and Superoxide Dismutase (DROM, BAP and SOD) in hyperthyroidism patients and healthy controls, and their relationship with the severity of hyperthyroidism and lipid metabolism. Methods: 119 healthy individuals and 78 hyperthyroidism patients were included in this study. Automatic biochemical analyzer was used to detect three indicators of oxidative stress (BAP, SOD and DROM), three indicators of thyroid function (TSH, FT3 and FT4) and four indicators of lipid metabolism (TG, TC, LDL, HDL and fasting blood glucose) in patients with hyperthyroidism and healthy controls. Results: The basic levels of BAP and SOD in peripheral blood were significantly lower in hyperthyroidism patients compared to healthy controls (Pi¼œ0.001), while the level of DROM was significantly higher in patients with hyperthyroidism compared with control subjects (Pi¼œ0.05). There was no significant correlation between the three oxidative stress indicators and metabolites of glucose and lipid. The level of DROM was negative correlated with TSH and positive correlated with FT3 and FT4. Conclusion: Oxidative stress and antioxidant system play an important role in the pathogenesis of hyperthyroidism. In patients with hyperthyroidism, the level of oxidative stress products (DROM) was increased and the levels of antioxidant capacities (SOD and BAP) were decreased. BAP tend to be a better biomarker of antioxidant level in hyperthyroidism patients compared with SOD.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection, has spread all over the world as an emerging infectious disease, causing a very serious impact on the global economy and public health. To date, there is no specific treatment or vaccines against coronaviruses. To prevent the infection and stop the pandemic, the research and development of effective SARS-CoV-2 vaccines has become an urgent matter. It is worth mentioning that appropriate adjuvants could enhance the strength and speed of the immune responses to vaccination. However, it takes time to customize different adjuvants with distinct targets (cellular or humoral immunity) and action intensity according to different antigens. In this review, we summarize the mechanism, advantages and disadvantages of adjuvants commonly used in licensed vaccines, as well as some novel adjuvants under development, hoping to provide information and increase the chances of success in developing effective SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in a short time frame.

Human suicide study currently is unable to show close associations between pathogenic stages and therapeutic outcomes. A wide variety of factors coming from both insiders (human genetic predispositions, plasma levels of hormones and concentrations of neural transmitters) and outsiders (social, culture, environmental, cognitive, habitual and physical handicaps and so on) may equally determine suicide ideation and human mortality. This Editorial emphasizes these items of environmental and biological factors in suicide prediction, preventions and therapeutics.

An expanding number of patients are taking home grown drugs, for example, echinacea, garlic, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St John's Wort, valerian, ephedra, kava, grapefruit squeeze and ginger. In spite of the fact that these home grown prescriptions are considered 'normal' items that may have a few advantages, unfavorable impacts, for example, expanded draining inclinations and medication communications are related with their utilization. Surgeons and anesthetists might be uninformed of their patients' utilization of these drugs since it is normal for patients not to uncover their utilization of this type of prescription, and the two specialists and anaesthetists regularly neglect to enquire about their utilization. Anesthetists and specialists must be comfortable with the impacts of home grown meds and ought to explicitly enquire about the utilization of natural meds during pre?operative evaluation. Presently accessible information proposes that all natural medications ought to be stopped 2 weeks before medical procedure.

In the present study an effort has been made to assess the hypoglycemic and anti–cholesterolmic activity of better gourd juice in alloxan monohydrate induced experimental animal model. Rats were acclimatized for 7 days in lab temperature. All animals were given standard water and pellet diet. Diabetes was induced in rats with the help of alloxan monohydrate (120 mg/kg body weight). After alloxan monohydrate injection rats were separated and treatment started with fresh better gourd juice and insulin. A marked rise in fasting blood glucose as well as serum cholesterol level were observed in diabetic control rats when compared to normal control rats. Antihyperglycemic and anti–cholesterolmic activity observed in bittergurd juice administered rats on 7th,14th,21th and 28th days post treatment.Anti–hyperglycemic and anti–cholesterolmic activity was found more effective than that of insulin treatment group. It is hope that present investigation will be helpful in establishing a scientific basis for anti–diabetic and Anticholesterolmic effects.

Rats were acclimatized for 7 days in lab temperature. All animals were given standard water and pellet diet. Diabetes was induced in rats with the help of alloxan monohydrate (120 mg/kg body weight). After alloxan monohydrate injection rats were separated and treatment started with fresh better gourd juice and insulin. A marked rise in fasting blood glucose as well as serum cholesterol level were observed in diabetic control rats when compared to normal control rats. Antihyperglycemic and anti–cholesterolmic activity observed in bittergurd juice administered rats on 7th,14th,21th and 28th days post treatment.Anti–hyperglycemic and anti–cholesterolmic activity was found more effective than that of insulin treatment group. It is hope that present investigation will be helpful in establishing a scientific basis for anti–diabetic and Anticholesterolmic effects.","PeriodicalId":7277,"journal":{"name":"Advanced techniques in biology & medicine","volume":"24 4 1","pages":"1-3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74448768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper considers one of the most important problems of modern medicine: corrective and guiding function of cardiovascular system in all manifestations of vital activity of an organism at the supramolecular level. A "thought" and its implementation "program" simultaneously appear in the left ventricle of the heart. In author's opinion, when a child is born, a place in the information bank of the biosphere is allocated for the constant receipt and storage of data on his or her vital activities, until the death. The author managed to discover a mechanism of information feedforward and feedback between an organism and the biosphere.
