A descriptive, quasi-experimental design, one-group pretest-posttest method was used to assess perceptions of nurses' knowledge in diabetes care and confidence in teaching diabetes education and to examine the effectiveness of a computer-based learning educational module on nurses' knowledge and confidence related to diabetes. Nurses had a slight improvement in knowledge, skill, and confidence related to diabetes after the computer-based learning intervention, but no statistically significant differences were found.

Nursing Research Week was developed and implemented by staff nurses who comprise the Nursing Research Council of a Midwest hospital. Multiple activities based on the literature and designed to appeal to staff nurses with diverse interests and knowledge of research were included. The process of development of the activities and the participants' evaluation are shared.

A new outcome-focused orientation model was developed in response to poor preceptor satisfaction and a high nurse graduate turnover. Progression through the program was determined by the orientee's accomplishment of the target or strategic outcomes across seven progressive phases-not by time and budget. At the conclusion of the first year, decreased turnover, increased preceptor satisfaction, and substantial financial savings were documented.
