Although the deadline for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Privacy Rule is only a few months away, some hospitals and other covered entities have essentially placed HIPAA compliance efforts on hold for the past several months because of the perceived uncertainty surrounding the rule's requirements.
