The concept of the “older population” is changing as increasing numbers of baby boomers begin to age, bringing more and more clients to the attention of case managers. Alcohol use and abuse can mimic symptoms of illness and have negative consequences for the older population across physical, social, and psychological parameters. It is therefore necessary in good case management to consider the impact of substance abuse and addiction in the older and geriatric populations. The unique nature of this problem gives us much to consider, and a systematic approach can promote a timely resolution.

This paper deals with an optimal control problem for networked control systems, which have network induced time delays in communication networks. A linear quadratic controller for the systems with random delays in delta domain is proposed by using a dynamic programming approach. The derived optimal controller in delta domain can be represented as linear delay-depended feedback of the states and the previous control signal. In the discrete time case, this is natural extension of the previous result in the limit as sampling time tend to zero. Finally, we compare three controllers in each domain to further illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller for a networked control system by utilizing delta discrete-time formulation.

Due to boom in telecommunications market, there is hectic competition among the cellular handset manufacturers. As cellular handset manufacturing industry operates in an oligopoly framework, often price-rigidity leads to non-price wars. The handset manufacturing firms indulge in product innovation and also advertise their products in order to achieve their objective of maximizing discounted flow of profit. It is of interest to see what would be the optimal advertisement-innovation mix that would maximize the discounted flow of profit for the firms. We used differential game theory to solve this problem. We adopted the open-loop solution methodology. We experimented for various scenarios over a 30 period horizon and derived interesting managerial insights.

Their market was self-funded Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) plans with fewer than 10,000 lives.
