Unilateral Multifocal Focal Choroidal Excavation 单侧多焦点局灶性脉络膜开挖

Aim: To describe an unusual OCT image of FCE. Methods: This is retrospective research. 23 cases (25 eyes) of FCE were observed by SD-OCT and en-face OCT angiography (OCTA). Among all patients, there were 16 males and 7 females, and the age range is from 19 to 77 years old. Institutional review board approval and informed consent from patient was obtained. Results: Among the 23 patients assessed, unilateral multifocal focal choroidal excavation was found in 2 eyes of 2 patients. Multiple FCEs were distributed outside the fovea at varying distances from the fovea however did not involve the fovea. Unilateral multifocal FCEs can occur relatively far from the fovea and vary in size and depth. Unilateral multifocal FCEs correspond to each other on SD-OCT and en-face OCT images. Conclusion: FCE can appear simultaneously in the same fundus in a multifocal form and does not involve the fovea, which is rare in FCE.

Privileged Immunity for The Human Eye 人眼的特权免疫

The visual system in humans is unique and privileged in many ways. The reflected light from the object passes through the transparent cornea and lens gets converted into electrical signals by the retina, which is richly supplied with blood, passing through the optic nerve to the brain where these signals are processed and form the image. Because the eye must maintain transparency, there are ocular blood barriers present at different levels. And since there is no supply of the blood, the immune system must be unique. Another feature for the eye to see the objects, it remains always in touch to environment it requires extra protection to infections therefore the eye is provided a unique immune system designated as “immune privilege (IP)”-- the term coined by Sir Peter Medawar, in the 1948.

Peripapillary Subretinal Space of the Blunt Traumatic Optic Neuropathy: RPE/Bruch’s Membrane Complex Micro-Rips - The Novel SD-OCT Findings 钝性外伤性视神经病变的视网膜乳头周围间隙:RPE/Bruch膜复合体微撕裂——SD-OCT的新发现

Aim: To report the unusual SD-OCT findings in peripapillary subretinal space of the blunt traumatic optic neuropathy (TON). Methods: All patients underwent a comprehensive eye examination included color fundus photography, ultrasonography, fundus fluorescein angiography, visual field, PVEP if patient’s vision was allowed to examine. An orbital CT scan was performed for all of patients and no orbital fracture was found. However, we did not assess them here and assessed the results of SD-OCT examination only. Results: Peripapillary subretinal spaces of four contused eyes were abnormal that showed a flat, localized hyperreflection due to hemorrhages. It was adjacent to optic disc. The intensities of reflection could be nonuniform due to the blood concentration or contained serous liquid. It could be observed that RPE/Bruch’s membrane complex micro-rips, but ELM were normal that were not involved in the peripapillary subretinal space. Choroid rupture of macula was observed at times. Conclusion: For TON patients, to examine the peripapillary subretinal space by SD-OCT at first time might have valuable for diagnosis. The results suggested that the hemorrhages of peripapillary subretinal space might come from the peripapillary choriocapillaris.

Role Of Nutrition on Myopia Progression 营养在近视进展中的作用

This is a descriptive research based on a systematic review of previously published articles in order to examine the relationship between nutrition and the progression of myopia in children. The literature encompasses the published articles from 2015 to 2022 examined the exclusive role of various nutritional factors influencing myopia progression. The deficiencies and supplement administration are also taken into consideration while selecting the influencing variables during the progression of the disease. These include primarily Vitamin A, and D, Zinc deficiencies, administration of dietary supplements, and healthcare behavioral change studies in particular. The extensive literature review agrees with the findings of most of the research and clinical studies done previously as there are no significant, proven connection between nutrition and myopia progression.

The teaching of the medical career is based on dogmas, as in religions. It is a dogma very rooted the wrong belief that our body obtains the oxygen it contains from the air we breathe. Plants, which do not absorb atmospheric oxygen, expel it but they obtain it from the dissociation of the water molecule through chlorophyll. It is another false belief that the oxygen that plants expel, they do it for the benefit of the animal kingdom, because supposedly said oxygen is absorbed through the pulmonary alveoli into the bloodstream, to distribute it to the cells of the organism, which use it to generate energy by combining it with glucose, something like controlled combustion. However, 95% of biochemical reactions that try to concatenate the combination of this atmospheric oxygen with glucose and the energy our body requires are theoretical. It is not possible to consistently explain that the human body consumes and recycles about 150 kg of ATP daily.

Background and Objective: Vision impairment caused by cataracts impacts patients’ daily activities, affecting their quality of life. This study aims to assess patients’ quality of life after cataract surgery using the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire-25 (NEI VFQ-25). Method: Participants were patients who had undergone cataract surgery at Yaounde Gyneco-Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital (HGOPY) and Essos Medico-Surgical Center between September 1, 2018, and May 31, 2019. Participants were evaluated preoperatively, 14 days after cataract surgery, and one month after cataract surgery.

The conventional long cane, largely used for mobility of visually impaired people, presents some limitations, such as the short-range detection of obstacles and the inability to protect against head-level obstacles. The purpose of this study was to develop and test a wearable haptic interface system attachable to a long cane in order to detect obstacles and provide notification to the user.

The Physiology of Cornea 角膜生理学

The cornea has important functions such as protecting the structures within the globe, contributing to the refractive power of the eye, and focusing the light rays on the retina with minimum scattering. Although the neurobiological complexity of the retina and the dynamic movement of the lens are absent in the cornea, it is one of the most critical components of the perfect visual system, thanks to its transparency. In order to provide sustainable transparency in the cornea, which is very important for visual function, it is possible with the intense metabolic activity in the cornea and the perfect operation of the balanced ion liquid pump. The cornea provides excellent vision thanks to the structure and functions necessary for its unique function to continue regularly. This review focuses on cornea and tear film structure and physiology.
