The article is divided into three main sections: the first section analyzes the wife’s role in the Jewish marriage, as well as various questions which are inseparable from her status in Judaism, such as social life, equality, and polygamy. The second section deals with the institution of marriage in Judaism, the very wedding ceremony, and various practical questions which may arise during the wedding and later. These include issues such as the ketubah and divorce. In the last section of this article, the author seeks to present the Judaistic stance toward violence against women, especially towards beating up and raping, and he ends with the Judaistic view on how we should treat our wives. The author analyzes the aforementioned topics from the Old Testament Scripture, the Jewish law, and the Rabbinic literature from the days of Talmud until today. The author breaks down these questions based on a series of sources from the Rabbinic literature, from the days of Talmud, through the Middle Ages, all the way to the modern Rabbis, and the literature which has been translated into Croatian for the first time. The texts have been translated from Hebrew and Aramaic by the author himself.

In the introduction, the author emphasizes the significance and the importance of the narrative nature of the Old Testament text. This is with the purpose of emphasizing the directness and openness of the Old Testament narrative, where realistic life issues are openly and unapologetically discussed in the form of a story. Consequently, this raises the issues of understanding marriage and the marital union in the text and context of the Old Testament. The vocabulary and the language are analyzed. In the second part of the paper, the author focuses on the problems pertaining to marital and family communities; to marital disputes as we see them in the OT, using several Biblical marriages and the challenges they faced as examples.

Svrha ovoga članka jest pružiti uvid u to do koje mjere naše poimanje koncepta dikaiosyne theou oblikuje način na koji sebe poimamo kao kršćane, koji predstavljaju Tijelo Kristovo i žive u svetosti. Pod snažnim utjecajem Poslanice Rimljanima razumijemo svetost kao življenje u pravilnom odnosu s Bogom, a pravednost kao praktičnu posljedicu tog odnosa. Svetost, kao unutarnja Božja priroda, očituje se kao Božja pravednost, koja se pak ostvaruje kroz Božje spasiteljsko djelovanje. Međutim, u svjetlu Krista i Njegove žrtvene smrti te uskrsnuća, relacijske i eshatološke dimenzije koncepta dikaiosyne theou nameću se kao presudne. Ovaj koncept stoji u samom središtu Pavlova evanđelja i pretpostavlja više slojeva značenja, a prije svega Božje otkupiteljsko i spasiteljsko djelovanje, ali također i Božju zavjetnu vjernost te restorativnu pravdu koja je dostupna svakome. Šira se perspektiva koncepta dikaiosyne theou otvara putem Isusove odanosti i poslušnosti Ocu pri ispunjavanju konačne svrhe spasenja. Za nas to znači život koji podrazumijeva trajnu transformaciju na sliku Boga i samoostvarenje kroz odnos s Njim te s bližnjima u eshatološkoj perspektivi. Kršćanska je etika duboko ukorijenjena u konceptu dikaiosyne theou, a kršćanski način života predstavlja njegov nezaobilazni praktični izričaj. Ljudi koji žive u autentičnoj kršćanskoj zajednici obilježeni su Božjom pravednošću koja se izražava kao kolektivna agape, pri čemu su progresivno preobražavani prisutnošću i djelovanjem Duha Svetoga te svjesno uranjaju u kontinuirani proces otkrivanja uvijek novih mogućnosti afirmiranja Božje pravednosti. Stoga, kršćanska je vjerska zajednica po svojoj naravi nužno inkluzivna.

The present article sets out to analyze Luke’s view of the Christian mission to the Jews. Specific attention is paid to the question of whether in any sense this mission may be considered as being successful or it may be regarded as having a future. A key distinction is introduced between Luke’s representation of the Christian mission to the Jews and his interpretation of it. Thus, the first section looks primarily at how Luke represents the Jewish response to the mission, while the second section explores the way in which he interprets this response. The conclusion of the study is that Luke’s concern is neither to show that the mission to the Jews has failed because of a negative response, nor that it has succeeded because of a positive response, but rather that it has achieved its goal and it has a future despite a predominantly negative response.

This paper discusses the transformations undergone by Mexican families in the 20th century and how some internal dynamics unfolded with the increase in the individual life expectancy and the presence of functional incapacities in the older family members. It reflects on social and demographic changes in the families and on support and care strategies directed at elderly people who are ill and have functional limitations, based on calculations obtained from the Encuesta Nacional sobre Salud y Envejecimiento (2001). Although there are efforts on the part of health institutions and family arrangements to deal with this situation, this paper shows the strength and the weakness of the social protection systems regarding care and support for aged people with functional incapacity. It presents challenges and relevant action areas for public and non-public institutions. It proposes, based on this analysis, that institutions, families and the society should take active actions to support the elderly individual who undergoes the progressive deterioration of physical and mental faculties.
