This article acknowledges the lack of analytical frameworks to aid the practitioner in selecting and organising activities to meet the needs of individuals and groups in residential, day care, and a wide range of social groupwork settings. The contribution of the relevant literature is reviewed. This article looks into the application of groupwork in Sri Lanka with a group of women-headed households (WHHs) to empower them and promote a sustainable economic development through self-employment initiatives. This particular groupwork was carried out in an underprivileged rural village, in Sri Lanka. Participants were divided into three groups based on their interest in the following livelihood activities; home gardening, tailoring and handloom work. They were facilitated with different activities for the period of six months. The significant changes were; improved skills in selected area, leadership and team work, documentation, mutual support, internal harmony among the community members, marketing skill and self-confidence.

Ensuite, leur relation avec les FA est mise en relief. Le présent article est le résultat d’une recherche visant à présenter des parcours d’hommes ayant participé à des groupes pour pères dans le contexte des bouleversements que les familles occidentales ont connus au cours des dernières décennies. L’objectif de cette recherche était d’identifier les motivations des pères à s’engager dans un processus de réflexion et d’action au sein d’un groupe, d’en apprendre plus sur leur expérience tout au long de ce processus, de comprendre ce qui a changé dans leur vision de la masculinité et de la paternité, puis de connaître la manière dont ils actualisent leur projet de vie au regard d’éventuels changements. Des entrevues semi-dirigées ont été menées auprès de onze pères impliqués dans huit groupes de soutien au Québec. Les résultats révèlent que les rapports sociaux (par exemple, la relation avec la conjointe ou l’ex-conjointe, avec les enfants, avec les femmes et avec les autres hommes en général) s’en trouvent modifiés, voire améliorés. En outre, la reconstruction des rapports à soi-même et aux autres semble être à la fois le principal défi de ces hommes et la source de leur plus grande satisfaction.This article aims to understand the journeys of men who participated in fathers’ groups in the context of the upheavals that the Western family has experienced in recent decades. It is based on the results of a study that aimed to identify the motivations of fathers who engaged in a process of reflection and action within these support groups; to examine their experience of this process, to understand what has changed in their vision of masculinity and fatherhood through this experience; and explore how they update their life plans in the light of possible changes. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven fathers involved in eight different groups in Quebec. The findings reveal that social relationships, including relationships with partners, or ex-partners, children, women, and other men in general, evolved and in some cases improved. In addition, the reconstruction of relationships with oneself and others seems to be both the main challenge as well as the greatest satisfaction of these men.

Cet article présente les caractéristiques et le déroulement d’un groupe d’éducation innovateur auprès des proches aidants. En huit ou neuf rencontres de deux heures et demie (2 h 30) chacune, la démarche vise à sensibiliser les proches aidants à l’expérience morale vécue dans l’exercice de leur rôle. Les écrits démontrent que ce sont les dilemmes éthiques rencontrés au quotidien qui contribuent le plus à l’épuisement des aidants et que cette expérience de soin peut s’avérer moralement douloureuse pour certains. Basées sur un modèle théorique qui décline en sept processus la construction du sentiment de responsabilité morale qui incombe aux aidants, les activités proposées aux membres permettent une réflexion éthique qui donne un nouveau sens à leur rôle. Plusieurs de ces activités sont décrites dans l’article, où est soulignée la possibilité de combiner les dimensions psychosociale et philosophique en intervention de groupe. La discussion fait néanmoins ressortir que le groupe SEMA ne correspond pas tout à fait aux caractéristiques d’un groupe d’éducation, ni à celles d’un groupe de délibération éthique ou de communauté de recherche philosophique. This article presents the characteristics and program of an educational, innovative group who deals with caregivers. For a given period of 8-9 meetings of two hours each, the group’s goal is to heighten awareness of caregivers with regard to their moral experience when performing their role. Indeed, studies show that it is these daily, ethical dilemmas that contribute the most to their burden and that this experience can be very painful, morally, for some. Based on a theoretical model which includes seven processes dealing with the moral sense of responsibility that comes with being a caregiver, the activities proposed in the group allow an ethical reflection which gives new meaning to their role. Several of these activities are described in this article, putting an emphasis on the possibility of combining the psychosocial and philosophical dimensions in group interventions. However, the discussion shows that this group does not quite fit the characteristics of an education, or an ethical deliberation group, or a philosophical research community. Finally, the intervention approach adopted by? the stakeholder’s role in this particular group lead us to conclude that it can be referred to as a “philo-educational’ group

Cet article présente les résultats d’une recherche portant sur l’expérience de groupe telle qu’elle est perçue par des pères ayant des difficultés d’accès à leurs enfants. Ils ont fait appel aux services d’un organisme communautaire proposant un groupe de soutien ouvert pour des pères dans leur situation. En étudiant les récits recueillis auprès de quatorze pères et de deux intervenants, on constate la présence de plusieurs dynamiques d’aide mutuelle. L’analyse des entrevues permet de faire des liens entre la conceptualisation de l’aide mutuelle et les témoignages des pères, puis d’élaborer de nouvelles pistes d’intervention auprès de groupes d’hommes.This article presents research findings on group experience as perceived by fathers facing children custody issues. They used the services of a community organization that offered an open group for fathers in their situation. By studying interviews with 14 fathers and 2 practitioners, we note the presence of several dynamics of mutual aid. The analysis of the interviews indicates links between the conceptualization of the mutual aid and the testimonies of the fathers as well as describing new ways of intervention, especially with men’s groups.
