Improved traffic design methods for lift systems 改进电梯系统的交通设计方法

This paper sets out improved procedures, based on investigations carried out at UMIST, for the design of lift systems. All major traffic conditions are considered and both manual, computer assisted and calculator procedures are outlined. No attempt is made to detail the theoretical and research bases.

Model verification of analogue infiltration predictions 模拟入渗预测的模型验证

A survey of current methods of calculating natural ventilation and infiltration rates showed that most design recommendations are based on the results of digital analogue studies. As the natural ventilation rate calculation methods reviewed make a number of simplifying assumptions, which have not been experimentally verified, studies have been carried out, using scale model buildings in a wind tunnel, to investigate the validity of these methods. Calculated ventilation rates were found to be up to 30% higher than the model ventilation rates.

The paper deals with determination, by traditional and probabilistic methods, of the bearing capacity of joints between walls and floor slabs. All principals factors affecting the probability of limit states being attained are taken into account. The probability analysis is based on specific statistical data.

Preliminary studies of a cabled water tower 电缆水塔的初步研究

This paper presents the concept of the cabled water tower and describes the preliminary investigation, design, construction, instrumentation and testing of a 1:12 scale model of a prototype of a 100,000 gal (453 m3) capacity. The prototype consists of a central steel core of 2.38 ft (703 mm) dia and an external system of cables in form of a hyperboloid of revolution supported vertically between two fixed rings. A water proofing membrane is placed inside the cable system distributing the water load onto the cables. Test results established the feasibility of the new concept and the method of analysis and design of cabled water towers developed here was validated.

Ultimate strength of continuous composite beams 连续组合梁的极限强度

Eight two-span and ten three-span beams, all with a concrete slab connected to a steel joist, were tested to destruction under various arrangements of concentrated loads. The maximum load was carried at failure in practically all the beams. The curvature distributions along the zones of positive and negative moments have been used to deduce the hinge rotations. A simple procedure for design has also been indicated.
