Summary
1.
A case of calcification in a mucoid adenocarcinoma of the colon has been described.
2.
Calcification in carcinomata of the gastrointestinal tract is rare. To date 13 cases have been reported and they have all shown evidence of mucoid degeneration.
3.
Previous authors have suggested that the pattern of the calcification in these cases may be diagnostic. The present case did not conform to the previous descriptions.

The detailed results are given of a clinical trial to evaluate simple ovarian radiation (X-ray castration) for breast cancer. The over-all results at 3, 5, and 7 years show apparent advantage to ovarian radiation at statistical levels just short of the 1 : 20 conventional index. The findings for a large post-operative group randomly allocated shortly after operation are significant at conventional levels. A number of subgroups are studied without yielding any useful indications, as to the type of case most influenced. They do show, however, that the differences are demonstrable in stage 1 cases and in post-menopausal women. Analyses of the incidence of recurrences and metastases seem to suggest some degree of inhibition of these sequel˦ in the radiated cases.

Five cases of mediastinal bronchogenic cyst have been recorded, their radiological appearances described, and their possible modes of origin discussed. It is believed that an accurate diagnosis of these lesions can be made from careful study of their features as seen in the routine radiographs of the chest.

Summary
1.
Seven new cases of ankylosing spondylitis occurring in patients with ulcerative procto-colitis are reported.
2.
The significance of pelvic (genito-urinary and alimentary) sepsis as an aetiological factor of sacroiliac arthritis and of ankylosing spondylitis is discussed.
3.
Acute or chronic pelvic visceral sepsis may be responsible for destructive lesions of the sacro-iliac joints and elsewhere in the bony pelvis. These lesions may be frankly suppurative, or there may be no pus formation.
4.
It is suggested that, in some patients, constitutionally and genetically determined, non-suppurative sacro-iliac arthritis, provoked by pelvic sepsis, may herald the development of classical ankylosing spondylitis.
5.
It is concluded that chronic pelvic sepsis may be a major exciting or provocative factor in the development of ankylosing spondylitis.
6.
A note is added describing the vertebral venous system; its possible pathological significance is discussed. This system may be involved in the pathogenesis of ankylosing spondylitis.
