Decisions. We face them every day. Some are more urgent than others. The decisions we make can impact short-term solutions or long-term goals. The management of a business is, in many ways, the cumulative effect of decisions made each and every day. And this is certainly true when it comes to union avoidance strategies.

Revocation of Union Cards 吊销工会卡

A requisite element of a union organizing campaign is the collection of evidence of union support, commonly referred to as “union cards.” Organizers can, and frequently do, say anything to get employees to “sign on the dotted line.” With signed union cards, a union can demand an election or even secure representation status without the benefit of a vote. An election campaign, therefore, is about more than the ballots: it is a battle about the cards themselves. Without sufficient evidence of support, a union is unable to gain any ground in the fight for status as collective bargaining representative.

Congressional Committee Finds Fault with Mail Ballot Procedures 国会委员会发现邮寄选票程序有问题

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, mail balloting became the primary method of conducting union elections. Now, although usage of mail balloting has waned, this method remains a much-used tool of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), particularly with regional offices dealing with budgetary problems and short staffing. Indeed, the NLRB has suggested that remote voting should be the way of the future. However, such efforts carry significant risks of unfairness for employers and employees, as concluded in a recent report by the Committee on Education and the Workforce for the U.S. House of Representatives.

Managers differ in their ability to relate to the employees they supervise. Some are close to their subordinates and are highly regarded; others are not so close but are nevertheless respected.
