It is difficult to monitor the displacement of large structures accurately in real time for the health monitoring of structures. We studied a laser displacement monitoring system. When the inclination of the structure is negligible, it can achieve real-time monitoring of the horizontal displacement of the structure precisely. The system is composed of a laser transmitter, a receiver board and a camera. The laser transmitter is fixed on the datum plane. Both the camera and the receiver board are fixed on the structure to be monitored. When the structure has horizontal displacement, that camera monitors the position variation of the laser spot on the receiver board. The actual displacement of the structure is obtained through the camera's built-in program. To evaluate the accuracy of the system, we performed two sets of model experiments and obtained the conclusion by comparing the experimental data, determining that our laser displacement monitoring system can monitor horizontal displacement with a high degree of accuracy.

Concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) columns subjected to environmental attack can experience changes in resistance that are time-variant. In this study, the axial compressive strength loss in circle CFST stub columns due to corrosion of the outer steel tube is investigated. The assessment of the time-dependent reliability analysis of circular CFST stub columns under environmental corrosion is presented. A probabilistic axial compression model for circular CFST stub columns is developed based on an analytic formula that considers corrosion-related and time-dependent factors. This study involves the formulation of a limit states function, the development of load models, the development of resistance models for corroded circular CFST columns, time-dependent reliability and resistance analysis for a hypothetical stub column. The results of this study can be applied to achieve a better prediction of the service life of deteriorating circular CFST columns and the development of optimal reliability-based maintenance strategies.

The dual-channel supply chain model has become increasingly popular in the industry and describes a scenario in which a firm, in addition to selling through the traditional supply chain of manufacturer and retailer, opens a direct channel to the customer through Internet sales. However, in the current global business environment, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a determining factor of choices of the customers. Based on the above important factors, this article introduces a corporate social responsibility two-echelon dual-channel supply chain. In addition to operating an online channel, the manufacturer intends to increase stakeholders' welfare by exhibiting CSR. The pricing decisions for both the cases of the decentralized and centralized scenarios are studied analytically as well as numerically. The paper also examines the effect of the degree of concern of the manufacturer regarding CSR on product compatibility and discusses feasibility of the successful operation of a dual-channel supply chain. Finally, channel coordination through all unit quantity discounts with the agreement of a franchise fee and surplus profit division through bargaining is discussed analytically.

This article describes the history of the culture of Nanai shamanism. The object of my work is the development of applied and decorative art handiworks through the culture of Far-Eastern indigenous people, for example of Nanai shamans. When learning the culture of Far-Eastern indigenous people, we have managed to bring in elements of Nanai culture into the design of modern things, such as the dreamcatcher.

This article explores the history of the Russian Orthodox mission in Korea. A chronological framework is established for the period 1884, when official diplomatic relations between Russia and Korea were instated, to 1917. Fibre-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites have been widely used in civil engineering for the past two decades. This paper presents an overview of the smart components and structures based on FRP. The basic principles of intelligent structures made of FRP and Optical fibre sensors are introduced. Some significant up-to-date smart elements used as reinforcing and health monitoring structures are also described in detail. Moreover, certain applications of smart FRP systems in civil engineering are briefly mentioned. Smart bars based on FRP are found to be very useful and could replace conventional steel. In addition, FRP-OF-OFBG is one of the most advanced techniques for local and global monitoring. However, interface strain for externally reinforcing systems requires specific characteristics to overcome debonding effects. Finally, analysis of the problems of existing applications based on carbon fibre composites are highlighted, followed by a description of some possibilities of new designs of smart FRPs.

In this paper, I aim to discuss the Korean noun incorporation phenomenon. I demonstrate that Korean noun incorporation occurs at the D-structure, syntactically obeying the Head Movement Constraint (HMC) of Travis [14] and Chomsky[7] and Baker [6] and semantically obeying the Theme-Only Constraint (TOC). For the discussion, I first identify the structure of ‘hæ-tot-i’ sunrise-type words, thereby showing that before derivation occurs by adding the nominalizing affix ‘-i’, compounding ‘hæ’ sun and ‘tot-’ to rise should first occur syntactically. Based on empirical data, this argument is strong enough to convince us that noun incorporation is a syntactic word formation process. Based on the syntactic structure of the noun incorporation identified, I show that every noun that goes through syntactic noun incorporation should have the thematic role of ‘theme’, which has been captured as the Theme-Only Constraint. Thus, the syntactic HMC and semantic TOC form a general well-formed condition to effect optimal noun incorporation in Korean.

Fatigue damage accumulation is an outstanding issue in ocean engineering due to long-term cyclic mechanical behaviours resulting from wind, waves and currents. Fatigue monitoring of offshore truss structures has been limited by the costs and techniques of current strain sensors. Aiming to estimate the unmeasured response of structural members, for which there are no available sensors, this paper proposes a strain response estimation strategy using three types of state-space formulations and a Kalman Filtering (KF) process. A strain modal coordinate based state-space model was developed, especially for large engineering structures. The theoretical approaches were evaluated using the numerical simulations based on deterministic and stochastic excitations. The algorithm can be integrated with the existing fatigue monitoring system as an early warning tool.
