A method for the determination of the deformation direction for a fibre-optic deformometer is proposed. The method is based on the two-channel scheme of a fibre-optic Mach-Zehnder interferometer.

Features of nanoscale surface hydrodynamic instabilities induced on the thin Au/Pd alloy films by single femtosecond pulses shaped into the tightly focused quasi-Bessel beam by means of a fiber microaxicon were studied. The thickness of the metal film as well as the pulse energy were found to be the key parameters determined the types of the hydrodynamic instability of the molten film, which results in the formation of different frozen surface relief microstructures: nanojets, nanocrowns and hybrid structures. Single nanojets forms on the surface of the 80-nm-thick film at the pulse energies ranging from 6 to 7 nJ, while for thicker films formation of hybrid structure, a nanojet surrounded by the nanocrown, is observed. Single nanocrown can be fabricated at film thicknesses ranging from 120 to 240 nm at near-threshold pulse energies. The number of nanospikes of the nanocrown was found to be linearly dependent on the pulse energy and the inverse film thickness.
The report presents and analyzes the experimental results luminescence study alumina and theoretical results showing that the dielectric nanoparticles have the exciton states of electrons with binding energy of several electron volts, which are excited by the weak optical laser radiation. Such materials with a wide spectrum of exciton states are important for creation: exciton lasers and optical emitters; receiving and emitting optical nano-antennas; control and processing information and signals; generation low-power optical solitons; optical computers etc.
Holographic gratings formation in polymethylmethacrylate doped with boron difluoride anthraceneacetonates was studied. It was shown, that the time dependence of refractive index (RI) modulation amplitude for recorded holographic gratings demonstrates M-shaped character, with the first (up to 0.5 × 10−4 RI units) and the second (up to 0.2 × 10−4 RI units) maxima of this dependence being caused by photodimerizability and postexposure diffusion of photoactive additive molecules. It was found that the material's resolution determined by competition of diffusion and photochemical processes for recorded gratings is about 1000 lines/mm. However, due to diffusion this value raises with time after the recording process end reaching 2500 lines/mm. It was shown that the optimal exposure time is inversely proportional to the grating spatial frequency and can be reduced by more than an order of magnitude by material heating from 25 °C to 75 °C.
The article addresses the modern technological aspects affecting the level of comfort in cruise ships. Much attention is paid to the interior design of a cruise ship. The article raises questions about environmental conservation, energy-saving technologies and alternative energy sources on a cruise ship. Examples of new technologies and design of public spaces and cabins on cruise sailing are presented.
By the time a student reaches college, he or she has studied English for approximately ten years. As if that were not sufficient, English education continues for up to two additional years in college. The outcome of these years of arduous toil produces results that are far below expectations. Hence, English falls among students' most loathed subjects. The clear villain for this paltry progress is not the students but a victimising system. From the first year of junior high school through the freshman or sophomore years of college, English is monotonously taught with almost no variation whatsoever. The curriculum consists mostly of grammar and translation, in that order. Many teachers force rote memorisation of grammar on hapless kids while not even realising the proper methods of language acquisition. Because English in Korea begins in earnest in junior high school, pupils should first be exposed to spoken English, with an emphasis on listening and speaking, duly followed by reading and writing. More specifically, only after reviewing systematic structure and syntax should college students focus on reading and writing.
In this work the perspectives of interaction between educational institutions and employers in Russian mono-cities is discussed. The possibility of using cluster approach in the development of academic and professional partnership is proved. The design expertise of cluster environment is shown through the example of Arseniev the mono-city of Far Eastern Federal District. The structure of academic and manufacturing cluster is presented, and the mechanism of its subjects' interaction is described.
Fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP)/steel composite is gaining momentum in civil engineering for repair, permanent formwork and external reinforcement. It is of vital importance to research the damage propagation of the new composite under loading. In this paper, we prepared four identical specimens of FRP/steel composite plates to conduct our test. Two of the specimens were under uniaxial loading, and the other two were under cyclic uniaxial loading. During the test, we monitored the specimens by acoustic emission (AE). AE is a suitable method to monitor the damage process of composite material because of its nondestructive and real-time features. In this study, we used a sentry function to assess the damage process of the specimens that were under uniaxial loading and calculated the index of damage (ID) and the modified index of damage (MID) to analyse the damage of the specimens that were under cyclic uniaxial loading.
