El trabajo aborda el retorno de jóvenes migrantes originarios de Xohuayán, localidad rural ubicada al sur del estado de Yucatán, quienes emigraron a Santa Rosa y San Francisco, California, a partir de 2000. Después de estancias de entre tres y 10 años, los migrantes decidieron regresar a su lugar de origen. A través de distintas narrativas se muestra que el retorno de los xohuanes estuvo mediado por tres razones principales: el logro de los objetivos que propiciaron la partida, el escape de una vida de cansancio y estrés y los deseos de contraer matrimonio. Por otra parte, también se explica que la reinserción sociocultural de los retornados se favorece por los fuertes vínculos que mantienen con su localidad, así como por su sentido de pertenencia socioterritorial.

This paper analyzes the return of young migrants from Xohuayan, a rural town located in the southern part of the state of Yucatan. In the year 2000, those migrants went to Santa Rosa and San Francisco, California. Most of them stayed in the United States between 3 and 10 years, and then decided to return to their hometown. Analyzing their contrasting experiences and narratives, this paper shows that the return of the migrants is related to three main reasons: the achievement of those goals that had originally motivated them to leave, the desire to escape from an exhausting and stressful life in the United States, and the hope of finding a marriage partner. I also explain the relevance of maintaining strong ties with their hometown and a strong sense of belonging as factors that facilitate the reintegration of returning migrant into their communities.

En la extensa colección de la Revista de Filosofía (Buenos Aires, 1915-1929) hay algunos artículos cuyo tema es la historia, la sociedad o la cultura en la América Hispana colonial. Si bien el número de estos artículos no es dominante en relación con otros temas de esa publicación, interesa esclarecer qué clase de mirada ofrece la revista sobre ese campo del saber, sobre todo teniendo en consideración que el perfil ideológico de la publicación es predominantemente cientificista y modernizador. En consecuencia, la mirada sobre el mundo colonial americano, presente en estos trabajos, amerita ser analizada y sistematizada para establecer su función en el seno de la publicación así como las relaciones mutuas y jerarquías de las disciplinas desde las cuales se aborda la cuestión.

The aim of this paper is to analyze extensive collection of the journal Revista de Filosofía (Buenos Aires, 1915-1929) where there are some articles devoted to the study of the history, the society or the culture of the Colonial Spanish America. The number of the articles on this topic is lower than the number of other themes, because the ideological orientation of the publication is modern and scientific. Consequently, even if reduced in number, the view on Colonial America merits an analysis in order to comprehend the place and function of these texts within the journal and the relationship between the object, the colonial world, and the disciplines that examine it.

El estudio exploratorio sostiene que el dragqueenismo surge de procesos de representación por parte de las drag queens, mediante sus prácticas discursivas y la manera en que se exhiben frente a un público. Estas representaciones les permiten, en su dimensión productiva, establecer una base identitaria que, en una dimensión reactiva, las diferencia de otras identidades transgénero. El análisis de los datos obtenidos mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas a drag queens de Lima (Perú) permitirá identificar la manera en que articulan las representaciones en torno a la tradición, la poética y el arte del dragqueenismo.

This exploratory study is based on the idea that dragqueenism results from representational works by drag queens, through their discursive practices and the way they exhibit themselves to the public. These representations establish an identitarian base and separate the drag queens from other transgender identities. The analysis of data obtained in semi-structured interviews will show how representations are articulated to produce dragqueenism's tradition, poetics and sense of art.

El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar el telón de fondo epistemológico, principalmente en torno a la ciencia, que subyace en el debate entre Walter Lippmann y John Dewey en la década de 1920, con relación a la opinión pública y su papel en la democracia. Con ello intentaré matizar y clarificar algunos puntos clave del debate, así como mostrar las ventajas que el concepto de investigación científica, de Dewey, muestra para abordar el caso. Finalmente, señalo los inconvenientes de dicha concepción y sugiero un punto de partida desde el análisis realizado, que puede ser de utilidad en la discusión contemporánea en torno a la democracia deliberativa.

The aim of this writing is to analyze the epistemological background, mainly concerning the conception of science that underlies in the debate concerning public opinion between Walter Lippmann and John Dewey. Then, I will qualify the debate and show the advantages involved in Dewey's proposal. Finally, I will also point out the disadvantages of such a conception and suggest, as a result, a new point of view for the contemporaneous discussion concerning deliberative democracy.

Este artículo analiza la recepción de El conde de Montecristo en Mérida y la Ciudad de México, con base en la hemerografía de la época y fuentes de archivo. El estudio se propone comprender las prácticas de lectura de las sociedades receptoras y las causas por las cuales esta novela francesa fue un best-seller en la República Mexicana.

In this paper, using newspapers and archival sources, we analyze how Alexander Dumas’ novel The Count of Montecristo was received in Mérida and Mexico City. The main objective of this research is to understand the reading practices of the receptor societies and the causes that made this French novel a best-seller in the Mexican Republic.

En este texto se analiza la novela La rebelión de los Cruzoob (1997), del campechano Miguel Ángel Suárez Caamal, desde una doble perspectiva discursiva: como realidad histórica y como realidad ficcional. En esta narración, que tiene como trasfondo histórico el conflicto armado denominado Guerra de Castas, la focalización del narrador se centra en la visión de los vencidos: los insurrectos mayas y su Cruz Parlante, por lo que este relato constituiría una representación de quienes se rebelaron contra la consuetudinaria opresión de los blancos yucatecos. Esta breve novela sobre el pasado peninsular mexicano actualiza y cuestiona temas vigentes en la contemporaneidad, ya que la problemática planteada no ha sido del todo resuelta; de este modo, concluimos, la lucha de la raza maya clama ser novelada para que su gesta no se pierda y permanezca en la memoria histórica.

In this text we analyze the campechano Miguel Ángel Suárez Caamal's novel The rebellion of the Cruzoob (1997) from a double discursive perspective: as a historical reality and as a fictional reality. In this story, that takes as a historical background the armed conflict designated the Caste War, the narrator focuses on the vision of the defeated: the Mayan rebels and their “Talking Cross,” making this text a representation of the point of those who rebelled against the customary oppression of the white yucatecos. This short novel on the peninsular Mexican past updates and questions relevant topics in the present, since the problems raised have not been completely solved; thus, we conclude, the struggle of the Mayan race yearns to be novelized so that their historical deeds be forever preserved in memory.

Paola es una joven trans, hondureña, de San Pedro Sula, que vive un exilio forzado en México porque su vida está en peligro. A pesar de la existencia de un amplio cuerpo jurídico internacional que la protege, en su tránsito transmigrante encuentra vigentes legislaciones y prácticas discriminatorias, que le niegan sus derechos como refugiada.

La 72, casa de refugio de personas migrantes, ubicada en la frontera sur mexicana, vive una situación de emergencia humanitaria, que afronta a través de un proceso de interculturalidad crítica. La 72 se convierte en un lugar de libertad para Paola, donde va desarrollando una mayor emancipación en su disidencia de sexo-género, y de resistencia frente a la gobernanza global.

Este artículo ofrece un panorama actual de la relación entre identidades y expresiones de género trans y los procesos migratorios en la frontera sur de México.

Paola is a young Honduran trans from San Pedro Sula forced into exile to Mexico because her life is in danger. Despite the existence of a large body of international law that protects her, in the migratory journey she is encountering current laws and discriminatory practices that deny her rights as a refugee.

Located in the southern Mexican border, the migrant's shelter called “72 house” is facing a humanitarian emergency, one that they manage through a process of critical interculturality. The 72 becomes a place of freedom for Paola, where she develops greater emancipation in her sex-gender dissidence, and resistance to capitalist global governance.

This article provides a current overview of the relationship between trans identities and expressions of gender and migration processes on the southern border of Mexico.

Si bien la noción segregación residencial posee un fuerte e intrínseco carácter espacial, el análisis de sus dimensiones suele suscitar discrepancias respecto de sus aproximaciones analíticas y métodos. Tomando como caso de estudio la ciudad de Mérida, Yucatán, en este trabajo se analizan las dimensiones espaciales de la actual segregación residencial de la ciudad desde dos aproximaciones analíticas. La primera (cuantitativa), a través del cálculo y análisis de índices de segregación a un grupo de formas de estratificación (variables) que son representativas de los cuatro enfoques básicos de aproximación al estudio de la segregación residencial. La segunda (mixta), a través de la construcción e interpretación de un modelo cartográfico del actual patrón espacial de segregación residencial de la ciudad. Los resultados obtenidos muestran la complementariedad de ambos métodos, al tiempo que aportan nuevas evidencias que cuestionan algunas de las creencias populares acerca de la segregación residencial en Mérida.

Although the residential segregation notion has an intrinsic spatial character, there is very often theoretical and ethodological discrepancies regarding the analysis of their spatial dimensions. In this paper we discuss the spatial dimensions of contemporary residential segregation in the city of Merida from two approaches. In the first one (quantitative), we analyze the results of key segregation indexes calculated to a group of representative variables of the four basic theoretical approaches to residential segregation. In the second approach, and through the development of a cartographic model, we analyze the spatial patterns of the city's residential segregation. The results obtained from both approaches provide new evidence to challenge popular beliefs about the residential segregation of Mérida.
