Entropy generation analysis technique for labyrinth seals – Part 1 迷宫密封的熵生成分析技术。第1部分

Entropy generation analysis – the subject of the study described in this feature – is a potential analytical technique that is being developed to provide a useful way of enhancing the functionality of labyrinth seals and perfecting their structure. Compared with conventional techniques, the approach aims to provide a more fundamental analysis of the energy dissipation phenomenon in labyrinth seals and a quantitative description of the amount of energy lost in various flow regions. The first part of this article, which appears here, mainly looks at the approach and numerical results of the associated research. The second instalment, which will appear in a forthcoming issue of Sealing Technology, will continue coverage by explaining how the technique may be applied.

“Smart seals” provide significant service-life data “智能密封件”提供重要的使用寿命数据

Freudenberg Sealing Technologies (FST) is developing intelligent seals that aim to provide more information about their service life than is currently obtainable through modelling other usage data. Referred to as “smart seals”, these self-diagnosing components are being designed to provide accurate condition information in real time, which means that they can be used as central elements in predictive maintenance and Industry 4.0 – the systematic digitalisation of machines and plants. A new feasibility study, also conducted by the company, verifies the benefits of using this sealing technology.
